Kota MADANI project strategic for civil servants, says Dr Zaliha
She said according to the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) on the Management of Putrajaya's Development in 2021, Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PJHSB) was required to build 35,000 units of government quarters in Putrajaya, but currently, only 22,452 units had been built while the remainder had yet to be developed.
Dr Zaliha said records from the Property Management Division (BPH) as of June 15 showed that 17,366 civil servants were still on the waiting list for government quarters, compared to only 1,449 vacant units.
'As such, to meet this demand, the government has planned the development of Kota MADANI, which involves the construction of 10,000 new government quarters.
'This development will directly benefit around 10,000 civil servants and will be implemented on 102 acres (41.27 hectares) of land in Precinct 19, Putrajaya,' she said in a written reply uploaded on the Parliament website on Tuesday (July 22).
She was responding to a question from Datuk Dr Alias Razak (PN-Kuala Nerus), who asked about the basis for the selection and direction of the Kota MADANI pilot project and the government's plans to ensure that it would not merely be a cosmetic project with no real benefit to the people.
Elaborating further, Dr Zaliha said the Kota MADANI concept went beyond merely providing housing and served as a model of urban development founded on pedestrian-friendly, inclusive, integrated, sustainable, and humane characteristics.
In line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, she said planned public facilities would include schools, mosques, nurseries, gyms and community spaces located in close proximity to support a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
'Kota MADANI is not a luxurious or elitist project, but one based on real needs. For the record, the concepts of compact development and vertical development have been part of Putrajaya's long-term planning since 1998, but have only now been realised through the Kota MADANI project,' she said. - Bernama

He also received the Global Leadership Award for Leadership Excellence in Community Transformation in 2017. The Innovative Leadership Award from Limkokwing University in 2016 further highlights his distinguished contributions. 'I believe with his vast experience and strong background, Mohd Husni's appointment will further strengthen Labuan's strategic role as a competitive Federal Territory,' said Dr Zaliha. Only states adopting Act 672 receive federal funds for waste management
KUALA LUMPUR: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) does not provide special direct allocations to all state governments for solid waste management. Only six states and two Federal Territories that adopted the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672) receive federal funding. Under Budget 2025, RM1.54 billion has been allocated for waste management in Perlis, Kedah, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. Other states must manage waste independently through their local authorities and agencies. Deputy Minister Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi stated this in response to Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan's query in the Dewan Rakyat. Act 672 allows the Federal government to take action against illegal dumping in participating regions. SWCorp conducted 3,036 operations against illegal dumpsites in 2024, with 2,030 more up to June this year. KPKT stressed that cleanliness efforts require collaboration among state governments, agencies, and the public. RM1.09m drop recorded in City Hall housing rent arrears
KUALA LUMPUR: Rent arrears for Kuala Lumpur City Hall housing units have dropped to RM69 million, down from more than RM70 million previously. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said City Hall has introduced various initiatives and measures to ensure that tenants pay their rent, resulting in a marginal reduction of RM1.09 million. "The initiatives and efforts include engagement sessions and enforcement measures such as awareness campaigns on the responsibility to pay rent, and encouraging the settlement of arrears through the 'Jom Bayar Sewa PA/PPR' campaign. "We also issue arrears reminder notices and conduct face-to-face sessions in PA/PPR areas for negotiation and settlement of outstanding payments. "In addition, City Hall officers carry handheld payment terminals during visits to units in arrears to allow tenants to make payments without needing to go to the payment counters," she said in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat today. She was responding to a question from Fong Kui Lun (PH–Bukit Bintang) on the measures taken against City Hall housing tenants who have yet to settle the RM70 million in arrears. She added that City Hall has also introduced instalment payment schemes for tenants unable to settle arrears in full, and offered multiple payment channels beyond counter services. Dr Zaliha said they are implementing the "Task Force Culas Sewa" operation, which involves cutting the water supply to units with prolonged arrears, but only after reminders have been issued and negotiation sessions conducted. She said this action is in line with Clause 9 of the City Hall Flat Tenancy Agreement, which allows the mayor to authorise the disconnection of water supply. "In implementing these initiatives, City Hall faces challenges in gaining tenant cooperation, as turnout for face-to-face sessions has been low. "Most tenants granted instalment plans also fail to comply with their payment schedules.
