Plantation drive marks Kargil Diwas at city hosp
Lucknow: Paying tributes to the soldiers, who laid down their lives for the country during 1999 Kargil War , the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute here organised a plantation drive under the theme 'Ek Ped Kargil Balidaniyo Ke Naam' on Saturday. As part of the initiative, 25 saplings of sacred and native trees, including sandalwood, shami, Goolar, Ashok, Rudraksh, Parijat, and Maulishree, were planted on the hospital premises. Director Prof MLB Bhatt narrated the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. Ashutosh, regional chief of Vidyarthi Karya, RSS, recounted the bravery and indomitable spirit of the soldiers, who fought in the challenging terrains of Kargil. The event concluded with all attendees observing a two-minute silence in honour of the martyrs. They later raised slogans of 'Jai Hind', reaffirming their dedication to the nation.

The ceremony began with a bugle call, following which officials and staff paid floral tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Vijay in 1999. The operation, a turning point in the Kargil War, claimed the lives of nearly 500 Indian soldiers who fought valiantly to recapture strategic heights from enemy occupation. Reverence was paid to Captain Vikram Batra (PVC), whose famous words — "Either I will hoist the Tricolour, or I will return wrapped in it" — echoed in memory at the ceremony. Land Port manager Sudhir Sharma quoted revolutionary Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil: "Shaheedon ki chitaon par lagenge har baras mele, Watan pe marne walon ka baki yahi nishaan hoga," stirring patriotic emotion among those present.
