Inside Pedro Pascal's life from rumoured Game of Thrones romance to JK Rowling controversy

Daily Mirror7 days ago
He is one of the most popular actors today
Pedro Pascal is set to take on one of his biggest roles to date when the latest iteration of Marvel's Fantastic Four arrives in cinemas.

That is saying something considering the actor's recent roles include appearing one of the biggest shows in the world and one of the most popular Star Wars spin-offs. Pascal's latest role sees him take on the character of comic book hero Reed Richards.

It is a part that is being tipped to take over Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark as the leader of the Avengers. What that really entails, fans will have to wait until July 25 when the film is released on the big screen around the UK.

But who is Pedro Pascal? What was his early career like that got him where he is today and what has been reported about dating rumours regarding the actor? Here's all you need to know.
Who is Pedro Pascal?
Full name, José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal is a Chilean and American actor born on April 2, 1975. He has an older sister who is a film and TV producer, a younger brother and a younger sister who is an actress and transgender activist.

Pascal has also been vocal in support for his sister and transgender community. He courted some controversy for comments in calling out Harry Potter author J.K Rowling. Posting on Instagram, he referred to her as a 'heinous loser' for her views on the topic.
Earlier in his life, hIs parents were listed as enemies of the state by the Pinochet regime in Chile when they took power and the family eventually fled Chile when he was nine months old.
The family initially received asylum in Denmark before relocating to the US and Pedro would grow up in Texas and then California. He studied acting at the Orange County School of the Arts and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 1997.

What was Pedro Pascal's early career like?
Pedro Pascal refers to the time early in his career as his 'give up' years. Believing if he hadn't made it past the age of 29 then the industry was not for him, he came close to quitting a number of times. He waited tables to make money and said the dog he owned at the time saved his life.
However, whenever he told friends and family he was close to quitting they would . His older sister says they knew he wanted to act from when Pedro was four years old and was too good to give up.
The difficulty of this time was expounded by the death of his mother Veronica. He ended up chasing his stage name to Pascal, in honour of her and as he thought it was easier to pronounce for Americans than his paternal name of Balmaceda.

While he earned a number of small roles in TV and film from 1999, it wasn't until 2014 when cast as Oberyn Martell where he made a huge impression on audiences around the world. Appearing in seven episodes for the show's fourth season, his arrival, presence and shocking death scene made a massive impact and proved to be a crucial career breakthrough.
He has since become one of the most popular actors working today. Not only with the roles that he earns but with behind the scenes stories told by his colleagues. According to Vanity Fair, his nicknames include Pepelo, Pipi, Pedders, Peds, Pedg and even Pepsi.
Those roles however have included the lead in Netflix series Narcos as well as Star Wars series The Mandalorian and HBO's The Last of US. He has also featured in films such as Wonder Woman 1984, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Gladiator II.

This year, alongside Fantastic Four he will also feature in modern western Eddington as well as romantic comedy Materialists opposite Dakota Johnson. With his recent success, Parade magazine estimates his net worth at around $10 million.
Does Pedro Pascal struggle with anxiety?
Pedro Pascal has been vocal about his struggles with anxiety. It is something he has said he has dealt with since he was a child.
In an interview with co-star Bella Ramsey while the pair were promoting The Last of Us, he told them how developed the habit of keeping a hand on his stomach, usually while walking the red carpet and having his pictures taken as a coping mechanism.

His fellow castmates have also been seen helping him with this, as fellow Fantastic Four star Vanessa Kirby was spotted several times holding his hand during public appearances to help him.
Who is Pedro Pascal rumoured to be dating?
Pedro Pascal also his dating life seemingly under wraps. This of course has not stopped the star from being subject of many rumours.
These include links between him and Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey. Neither commented on the links and Headey has since gotten married. On a Reddit AMA, Pascal said of her: "'She is so funny and so smart, such a good person, a good friend and a good mother, I think everyone on that set and anyone who comes in contact with her develops an instant crush. Talk about male or female, you're going to get a crush on her easy.'
Earlier this year, Pascal was spotted out in Los Angeles with Friends star Jennifer Aniston with some wondering if the pair were an item. However, Pascal revealed during The Last of Us season two premiere that they were just going to dinner with mutual friends.

Pedro Pascal has made a Sydney restaurant world famous after naming his favourite meal in Australia

Pedro Pascal has just dropped a foodie bombshell while Down Under, and fans are already scrambling to make dinner reservations. The beloved Last of Us and Narcos star, who has been in Australia promoting Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, was stopped for a red carpet interview where he casually revealed the one Aussie meal that stole his heart. Interestingly it wasn't a classic parmigiana, but the oysters at Sydney 's iconic Mimi's restaurant in Coogee, NSW. In a now-viral TikTok, that now has amassed over 2.9million views, Pedro didn't hesitate when asked about his most memorable meal in Australia. 'My favourite meal are the oysters that I had at Mimi's yesterday,' he said. 'You can never eat too many oysters,' he added in the clip, solidifying his love for the luxury shellfish. Pedro, 50, was in the country for the press tour of Fantastic Four, where he plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. And while the global press have their eyes on his red carpet appearances, Aussie foodies are now more laser-focused on Mimi's, the chic coastal restaurant tucked inside Coogee Pavilion in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Mimi's, part of the Merivale hospitality empire, has long been a go-to for Sydney's elite and A-listers alike. Known for its refined seafood dishes, breathtaking ocean views, and opulent fit-out (think white linen tablecloths, marble details, and a champagne trolley), the restaurant has cemented its status as the place to be seen. And now, Pedro Pascal has given it the ultimate celebrity seal of approval. TikTok creator Tom, who was behind the viral video, even rushed to Mimi's to try the dish for himself. 'The oysters are on their way. I think Pedro put in a call. I'm scared,' he joked from Mimi's exclusive private dining room. Before the oysters arrived, he was served a jaw-dropping entrée of Blue Fin Toro Confit Tomato on a warm crumpet - another one of Mimi's signature viral dishes. 'Look at this - I could get used to this,' he said, holding up the meticulously plated starter. 'Let's help the oyster find a way to its home,' he quipped before taking a bite. 'Wow, that could be the best oyster I've ever put in my mouth. Mimi's in Coogee, it can't be anything less than a 10.' 'Great rec! So glad you loved them,' Merivale group commented on the video review. 'My favourite meal is Pedro Pascal,' another fan joked. Their signature oysters are far from your average seaside snack. Sourced from the finest Australian farms, they're shucked to order and often served with a delicate mignonette or creative topping. Presentation is everything, and so is quality. Reviews frequently rave about the freshness, flavour and theatrical flair of the seafood offering. In addition to oysters, Mimi's has built a cult following for dishes like the hand-cut pasta with spanner crab, Baked mud crab with caramelised hollandaise, the lobster served tableside, and of course, that viral Blue Fin Toro crumpet. The restaurant is no stranger to A-listers and has even hosted intimate celebrity events, but with Pedro Pascal's unexpected endorsement, it might be hard going getting a booking. This isn't the first time Pascal's love for food has gone viral. Fans may remember the now- iconic video of him ordering six espresso shots at a New York café. But it seems Sydney has made a lasting impression on him. As Pedro himself said himself: 'You can never eat too many oysters.'

George Lucas makes Comic-Con debut for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

SAN DIEGO, July 27 (Reuters) - Excited fans waved glowing "Star Wars" lightsabers on Sunday at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for George Lucas' latest project, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Along with Lucas, the panel included director Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, vice president of Disney's (DIS.N), opens new tab Lucasfilm, with Queen Latifah moderating at the San Diego Convention Center. Attendees shouted "Lucas! Lucas! Lucas!" and clapped their hands in anticipation of the "Star Wars" creator's arrival, and gave the 81-year-old Lucas a standing ovation as he took his seat. "Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media," a press release from the museum said. The 11-acre campus, in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, will include a green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, and retail and community spaces. Some of its collection will include art from comic book artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell and illustrator Kadir Nelson, as well as a Lucas archive with models, props, concept art and costumes. "I love all art, no matter what it is," Lucas said after showing a video that gave a sneak peek at the museum. The video included renderings of the museum interior and exterior, as well as the museum's broad range of art ranging from more traditional fine art and comic book strips to "Star Wars" sculptures and installations. Lucas began the panel recalling his days as a college student struggling to pursue his dream of becoming an art collector due to the steep cost of fine art. But the filmmaker found an affordable exception with comic books, sold cheaply in "underground" markets. Now, rather than selling art he collected over around 50 years, Lucas said he prefers to create what he calls a "temple to the people's art." Lucas kept the conversation focused on the museum and did not discuss "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones." For del Toro, the museum offers a visual past that belongs to everyone" and can't be erased, noting that he may move some of his personal art collection to the Lucas Museum. Part of the liberation that comes with narrative art for the "Pan's Labyrinth" director also means that art can't be made with a computer app, as it lacks "personality and knowledge."

Vanessa Kirby confirms huge Fantastic Four secret everyone is talking about

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Vanessa Kirby has confirmed the truth behind that Fantastic Four mid-credits sequence. The British actress, 37, plays Sue Storm—or the Invisible Woman, to those in the know—in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Sue makes up one quarter of Marvel's First Family, appearing alongside husband Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), hotheaded brother Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and human rock face The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as the titular Fantastic Four. With the Fantastic Four's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut out now, audiences have been flocking in droves to witness their arrival. The team may have their hands full battling cosmic world-eater Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), but there'll be an even bigger villain on fans' minds once the end credits finish rolling. With the cat out of the bag, Kirby has clarified what Doctor Doom's cameo at the end of the film means… and confirmed that star Robert Downey Jr. is already very much back. In the first of two post-credits sequences, Sue is shocked to find a menacing hooded figure looming over her young son, Franklin. Fans will already know this to be the Fantastic Four's longtime nemesis, Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming sequel, Avengers: Doomsday. Although the villain's face is obscured, Kirby has revealed that it was indeed Downey Jr. behind that hood. 'Yeah! Robert's never not been on set,' she told Variety when asked whetherRDJ was present for the shoot. She continued: 'He's always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather. He's looked after us. This sequence was filmed by the Russo Brothers as part of their work on Avengers: Doomsday and shot while Kirby was pregnant in real life. 'It's such a joy working with the Russos and him, because they've had such deep collaboration for so long,' she revealed. 'And it's been amazing being pregnant and working on Avengers. I felt so inspired and so relieved that I've been so taken care of. It's been a really beautiful journey. Robert is just doing incredible work. I'm so excited.' It was announced last year that Downey Jr. would be returning to the long-running franchise, six years after being killed off in Avengers: Endgame. This came as Earth's mightiest heroes faced off against purple menace Thanos (Josh Brolin) for the fate of the universe. This spelt the end of Downey Jr.'s career-defining stint as Tony Stark—aka Iron Man—sacrificing himself at the end of the film to secure the future of reality as we know it. A few years later, it was confirmed that he would be returning, albeit in an entirely different role. The actor's appointment to the post was unveiled at last year's Comic-Con, when a cloaked Downey Jr. removed his mask to reveal that he would be playing Doom, real name Victor von Doom. This character was previously played by late Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon in the 2005 and 2007 films and by Toby Kebbell in the 2015 reboot. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Doom's brief appearance at the end of First Steps gives little away as to what he has planned, although we do know it involves Sue and Reed's infant son. He will spearhead a massive cast in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently set for release on December 26, 2026. More Trending Names already announced include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright and Paul Rudd, as well as X-Men actors Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden. Of his return to the MCU, Downey Jr. joked: 'New mask, same task. 'What did I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps is out in UK cinemas now. Got a story?
