Pearly-Thinaah rise to career-high No. 2 in the world
In the world rankings list updated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday (July 29), Pearly-Thinaah officially moved up one rung from No. 3 to No. 2 after their semi-final finish in the recent China Open in Changzhou.
The duo are the first Malaysian women's doubles pair to break into the top two in the world since Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty, who reached No. 1 in the world in 2009.
There was also joy for national No. 2 pair Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee after the duo moved up two spots from No. 22 to No. 20.
Mei Xing-Pei Kee were rewarded after progressing into the last eight in their maiden appearance together in the China Open.

Sarawakian squash player Harith Danial eyes SEA Games after winning four medals in SEA Cup

KUCHING (July 30): National squash player Harith Danial Jefri made a strong impression at the 9th SEA Cup held at Vajiravudh College in Bangkok, Thailand from July 21–26. The Sarawakian clinched two silver and two bronze medals in his debut appearance at the tournament. The 19-year-old student of UWE University Bristol, United Kingdom earned his first silver in the Under-21 mixed jumbo doubles with Anrie Goh after losing 1-2 to Jonathan Reyes and Aerra Mae Relano of the Philippines in the final. Harith's second silver came in the men's singles final when he lost 0-3 to fellow Malaysian Duncan Lee from Sabah. The Miri-born player was nursing an injury but showed grit to play on. Harith also paired with Muhd Raziq Putra Mohd Fakhur in a losing cause 0-2 to the Filipino combination of Christopher Buraga and Jonathan Ryes in the men's jumbo doubles semis to receive a bronze. His second bronze was earned in the Mixed Team event when Malaysia lost 1-2 again to the Philippines in the semi-finals. Speaking to The Borneo Post via WhatsApp, Harith was satisfied with his performance and looking forward to the near future. 'This was my first SEA Cup. Playing in the Jumbo Doubles U21 event was a significant milestone in my development. It was a great opportunity to test myself and fine-tune my game ahead of the SEA Games later this year.' 'I gave everything I had in both the doubles and individual events. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury during the tournament which forced me to sit out the Mixed Team final. That was tough, but this setback won't stop me,' he said. 'My eyes are firmly on the SEA Games (also to be held in Thailand in Dec). Sabah Muaythai clinch third national title

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Muaythai once again proved their dominance on the national stage by capturing the overall title at the National Muaythai Championship, held in conjunction with the National Martial Arts Championship at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, over the weekend. The state team claimed the overall crown for the third consecutive year with an impressive medal haul: 24 gold, 10 silver, and 25 bronze. Adding to their triumph, four Sabah athletes were recognised as best performers in their respective categories: Ariesya Dania (Best Cultural Performance) Mohd Faliq (Best Male Boxer, Age 8–9) Dazaizy Hafiy (Best Male Boxer, Age 12–13) Kerry Dryan (Best Male Boxer, Age 16–17) Sabah Muaythai Association President, Haji Nazri Ab Razak, expressed pride in the team's performance and attributed the success to the collective effort of athletes, coaches, and families. 'Each medal represents countless hours of training and sacrifice. I'm extremely proud of how our team carried the Sabah name and spirit, proving once again we are a force to be reckoned with in Malaysian Muaythai,' he said.
