Aggressive Duck Terrorizing Elderly Neighborhood in Florida
It is not entirely unusual to hear about an alligator wreaking havoc in a Florida neighborhood. Or a snake, or a wild hog, or a bear, or a bobcat. These are animals known to be nuisances, and it's not uncommon to read a local news story about a pet being snatched up by the state's formidable wildlife. It is a bit more rare however, to hear about just one duck terrorizing an entire community. But, this is exactly what is happening in Cape Coral, Florida.
In an elderly community there, a Muscovy duck has attacked several people, with one person even requiring hospitalization. According to Fox 4, residents have been bitten, chased, and followed into their homes by the aggressive duck. The animal has been named Jimmy,
"I sit on my porch, 7 to 7:30 at this time of the year to catch a sunset, you know, some sun, and I had my eyes closed. All of a sudden, I felt a jab on my hand and it was bleeding," resident James Sepulveda told Fox 4. He advocates for Jimmy's removal.
That was a tough order though, as it is a protected migratory bird. The species is protected, even though it is native to Texas, not Florida. But, after making the news for chasing not only the senior residents of Cape Coral, but the Fox 4 news reporter, Jimmy was finally captured.
According to The New York Post, Mark Quadrozzi with 'Remarkable Resques' came and scooped up Jimmy, moving the anti-octogenarian to an animal sanctuary where he can live with other Muscovy ducks. Hopefully, he's better at making friends there. As for why the bird was so dang angry… we can probably blame humans for that.
'This is a young male. Yes, that's why he's being such a punk,' Quadrozzi told Fox 4. 'When you have a duck that wants to actually make physical contact with a person like that…it's kind of a given that it was hand raised by someone.'

A Documentary About Life, Death and ‘The Cathedral'
There are some weighty topics — both biblical and personal — that are explored in the documentary 'Jimmy & the Demons,' about the sculptor and woodcut artist James Grashow. First there is the art, which is inspired by religion. Grashow, 83, is the titular 'Jimmy' in the film, which will debut on Sunday at the Tribeca Festival. The documentary tells the story of his quest to complete 'The Cathedral,' his five-foot-tall wood sculpture of Jesus Christ bearing a cathedral on his back while sinister creatures — many of them demons — flock around his feet. It is playful and surreal and obsessively detailed. Then there is the personal: Grashow's ruminations about life, or more accurately, death. The film captures the artist's view about the sculpture possibly being the 'grand finale' of his career and his belief that he is 'in the bottom of the ninth' of his life. The feeling of mortality is strong. Even more resonate, however, are Grashow's passion for his craft and love for his family. During a video interview last month, Grashow expressed mixed feelings about 'The Cathedral' being finished. 'It's an unbelievable relief,' he said. But elation over completing the project was balanced with another emotion: 'At the same time, there's sort of an emptiness,' he said. 'Where do I go now? And what do I do?' 'Beginnings are the most difficult,' he said. 'Being in the process in the middle of the project is phenomenal.' He likened his creative experience to an enormous spiral. 'The fist steps are unbelievably sluggish, but as it quickens and the vortex keeps spinning around, you can't wait to get up in the morning and approach the work.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Valerie Mahaffey's Cause of Death Released by Husband
The cause of death has been released for a beloved star of Northern Exposure, Seinfeld and other iconic television series. Valeria Mahaffey was 71 years old when she died. She had a lengthy list of screen credits that included films like Seabiscuit and the television and streaming series Man in the High Castle and Big Sky. She also had appearances on iconic series like Glee, Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing, and Frasier. Mahaffey played an accountant who briefly dated George Costanza in Seinfeld. "Heartbroken to hear of Valerie Mahaffey's passing. Her unforgettable performance as Patrice on Seinfeld helped establish the show in the early years. A true talent whose legacy will live on in our laughter and memories. Rest in peace, Valerie," a fan wrote on X. Mahaffey's husband, actor Joseph Kell, told Variety that Mahaffey's cause of death was cancer. She died on May 30 in Los Angeles, he told the publication. 'I have lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses. She will be missed,' Kell said to Variety. According to Variety, Mahaffey won an Emmy award for her role as Eve on Northern Exposure. Most recently, she was appearing on the Apple TV+ series Echo 3, her IMDb profile says. Her daughter Alice wrote in a statement, according to ABC7's George Pennacchio, 'I don't really have the words to say right now. Cancer sucks. I'll look for you in all the fun moments of life. I know that's where you'll be.'Valerie Mahaffey's Cause of Death Released by Husband first appeared on Men's Journal on May 31, 2025
