The Amazon of South Korea and beyond
Amazon has arguably been the most successful e-commerce company over the last two decades, leading to numerous clones attempting to replicate its business model in their respective markets. Most either don't perform well or fail outright, except for a handful, such as JD.com in China and Coupang in South Korea.
Inspired by Amazon's customer obsession, Coupang strives to please its customers continually. One way is to provide a wide selection of products to customers, delivered at breathtaking speeds via its extensive in-house warehouse and logistics infrastructure.
For instance, consumers can order fresh groceries and millions of other general merchandise items by midnight and receive products by 7 a.m. the next morning. If customers are unhappy with the products, they can tap a button on the app and leave the item outside their door for pickup -- refunds will be processed immediately after pickup.
But that's just one part of the story. Coupang's efforts to delight its users have expanded far beyond their roots into other areas, including food delivery, online streaming, and services such as free appliance and furniture installations. Customers are eligible for all these perks for free if they join the Wow membership program. Unsurprisingly, customers love this approach, which explains Coupang's leading market share of 25% in South Korea.
Coupang's success in South Korea has also prompted the company to expand into new geographies, such as Taiwan, and new business segments via the acquisition of Farfetch. While these new business additions will take time to bear fruit, they will open up new growth avenues for the e-commerce company.
Coupang is executing well lately
Coupang is also delivering solid growth.
For the year ended Dec. 31, revenue surged by 24% (or 29% on an currency-neutral basis) to $30.3 billion on the back of growth in its e-commerce business and the acquisition of Farfetch. Coupang's growth continued into 2025, with revenue growing at 11% (or 21% on an currency-neutral basis ) to $7.9 billion.
Top-line growth is just one part of the story. Coupang has gradually improved its margins over time, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margins improving from 3.9% to 4.8% in the last five quarters. The tech company targets adjusted EBITDA margins to exceed 10% in the long run, suggesting that there is still considerable room for improvement.
In short, while Coupang is already generating tens of billions in revenue, it is well-positioned to sustain its growth momentum, leveraging its world-class infrastructure, vast customer base, and customer-obsessed culture.
Coupang authorized a $1 billion share buyback plan
Coupang's recent share buyback plan is a significant milestone for several reasons.
One, it suggests that Coupang has evolved from a high-growth, loss-making company to one that's growing more sustainably and responsibly. To the extent that it can return excess cash to shareholders, such a move also signals the company's confidence in its future, suggesting that management may view the shares as undervalued compared to the company's prospects.
Additionally, with ample cash on its balance sheet ($6.1 billion in cash and cash equivalents, as of the time of writing), management's share buyback plan demonstrates its discipline in capital allocation, which complements its other investments in growth and innovation. If I Could Only Buy and Hold a Single Stock, This Would Be It.

Let's make this clear from the start: I would never recommend owning just one stock for the long haul. A proper nest egg needs some variety, either in a carefully assembled basket of diverse stocks or focused on a broad market-tracking exchange-traded fund (ETF). For the sake of argument, however, I could imagine buying some Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)(NYSE: BRK.B) stock and just letting it roll. The usual suspects aren't diverse enough for this challenge I know, I know. You wanted me to double down on Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), whose stock has absolutely crushed the general market in the long run. Or I could have picked Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX), the media-streaming pioneer that's created most of my wealth so far and that might join the trillion-dollar market cap club in a few years. Perhaps you expected Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), with its unmatched five-year returns and huge long-term future in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. These stocks sure tick a few of the right boxes, but none of them are as naturally diversified as Berkshire Hathaway. That's really what I'm looking for in a "single stock for all ages." Why my biggest winners don't make the cut I own all three of the suggested Berkshire alternatives above, by the way. Netflix Netflix was an early name in my portfolio, inspired by fellow Fool Rick Munarriz's in-depth analysis of the company in the mid-2000s. When Netflix went through the Qwikster-branded separation of DVD and streaming services, I doubled down on my investment at a fantastic price. That particular Netflix stake has gained 10,350% in less than 14 years. But that's just my favorite play on the future of digital media services. I would never dare to make Netflix my only holding, just in case somebody builds a better media-streaming mousetrap. Amazon I wish I had pounced on Amazon much earlier, like Motley Fool co-founders Tom and David Gardner did. But I dragged my feet, and watched the online bookstore become an e-commerce buffet with a highly profitable side of cloud computing services. My oldest Amazon investment is only up by 430% since January 2017. Still, Amazon only operates in a couple of business sectors. The company (and stock) could be vulnerable to a sudden sea change in cloud computing, possibly led by Microsoft 's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Azure. And how well would Amazon's dominant e-commerce business perform if global rivals such as Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) or MercadoLibre (NASDAQ: MELI) found some traction in the American market? Amazon is not a one-trick pony, but the company should pick up a few more skills before entering this single-stock discussion. Nvidia I'm especially worried about Nvidia's long-term tenacity. The early leader in AI accelerator hardware could very well run into a superior alternative in the next few years. The risk only grows larger if you stretch the timeline out over decades. Rivals like Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) control tiny slices of the AI chip opportunity so far, but that could change. The next market-defining AI winner could be some upstart I haven't heard of yet. Moreover, leading cloud computing experts such as Microsoft and Amazon already design AI accelerators of their own, hoping to meet their exact needs at a lower cost. Nvidia's big growth spurt might have a few years left in it. I'm just not convinced that the stock will continue to rise after that. My largest Nvidia purchase has posted a 780% gain since June 2022, but I cashed in on those paper gains and sold most of my Nvidia shares earlier this year. This pony needs to learn a few more tricks, too. Berkshire is the Swiss Army knife of stocks So diversity sets Berkshire apart from the biggest success stories of this era. Sure, Warren Buffett's stock-picking and wealth management expertise deserves tons of respect. But he is also known as a great mentor, and many of Berkshire's top-performing picks in recent years were added by Buffett's lieutenants. I expect the company to continue doing well when the Oracle of Omaha retires at the end of 2025. The stock is kind of like a carefully curated ETF. Berkshire Hathaway owns and operates 68 distinct companies these days. The names range from GEICO car insurance and Duracell batteries to Business Wire information services and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. Berkshire dabbles in e-commerce (Oriental Trading Company) and clothing (Fruit of the Loom), not to mention home construction (Clayton Homes) and fast food (Dairy Queen). This business list is almost as diverse as the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) market index. And that's just Berkshire's in-house brands. The company also owns stock in about 40 public companies. The largest investments include a $60.7 billion stake in Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), a $45.1 billion position in American Express (NYSE: AXP), and a $28.5 billion holding of Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO). That's consumer electronics, financial services, and beverage distribution. Apple's gigantic presence may look risky, but the danger looks smaller when you also consider Berkshire's epic collection of fully owned businesses. Do you see a theme here? I do, but it's not a single industry. Berkshire is all about diversity, shielding the company and its investors against the temporary ups and downs in any one particular industry. Full disclosure: I don't own Berkshire (yet) I don't actually own any Berkshire Hathaway stock yet. I get my portfolio diversification kicks in other ways, with several dozen hand-picked stocks and a couple of broad index funds serving this purpose. That's arguably a mistake, since Berkshire's stock tends to outperform the S&P 500 in the long run, and I can't compete with the Buffett team's stock-picking skill. So if you're starting a new portfolio today, or just looking for an alternative to the common S&P 500 index funds, you should give Berkshire Hathaway a serious look. Why This Statistical Edge Favors CRWD, JNJ and LULU For the Coming Week

A critical problem within the standard practice of market analysis is that the methodologies often beg the question: the assertions assume the conclusion within the premise. For example, it's not uncommon to hear experts talk about price-to-earnings ratios of 15 being 'good value' or a head-and-shoulders pattern being 'bad' for the target stock price. Is the chart pattern or financial ratio a legitimate example of that which is being asserted? And if so, what is the empirical evidence that the event in question is predictive? Often, the answer is some dressed-up version of 'just because,' which then becomes a self-referential loop. A better approach is to analyze market breadth, which is basically the sequence of accumulation and distribution. In other words, market breadth is demand and demand benefits from the beautiful quality of binarism — it's either happening or it's not. Binary metrics are also discrete, meaning that they don't succumb to the non-stationarity problem of fundamental and technical analysis. While these latter approaches may offer heuristic insights, their relevance is incredibly fragile across vast stretches of time and sentiment regimes. That's because the metrics of comparison (such as share price) tend to drift or evolve, often quite dramatically. In contrast, the language of demand — of buying and selling — remains the same, whether we're talking about the market in 2025 or 1925. This discretized model — where the volatility of price action is compressed or abstracted into a binary genetic code — offers tremendous probabilistic insights. Last week, I identified three stocks using the model that signaled a higher-than-average propensity for upside. Comparing Monday's opening price to Friday's close, all three securities moved higher. Two of them at some point in the week exceeded the short strike price of the bull call spreads I discussed as prospective ideas. To be clear, the market is chaotic, which means losses are guaranteed to happen. My point? We have limited resources. So, with empirical data, I'd like to direct your attention to probabilistically compelling ideas. CrowdStrike (CRWD) Fundamentally, CrowdStrike (CRWD) presents arguably a no-brainer idea as a long-term investment because cybersecurity cannot be ignored. In late May, Victoria's Secret (VSCO) had to take down its website temporarily due to a data breach. It represented the latest high-profile example of the risks businesses face in the modern digitalized ecosystem. Given that nefarious online activities are unlikely to fade anytime soon, CrowdStrike enjoyed a shot of relevance, sending CRWD stock higher. Further, the equity is up almost 37% on a year-to-date basis, easily outperforming the benchmark tech index. Still, there could be some more upside remaining. In the past two months, CRWD printed a '6-4-U' market breadth sequence: six up weeks, four down weeks, with a net positive trajectory across the 10-week period. Notably, in 61.9% of cases, the following week's price action results in a gain, with a median return of 4.04%. Should the implications of the 6-4-U pan out as projected, CRWD stock could reach $487.33, possibly within a week or two. Based on the above market intelligence, aggressive traders may consider the 475/485 bull call spread expiring June 27. Using data available to Barchart Premier members, this transaction involves buying the $475 call and simultaneously selling the $485 call, for a net debit paid of $480. Should CRWD stock rise through the short strike price at expiration, the maximum reward is $520, a payout of over 108%. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) At first glance, healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) doesn't particularly seem attractive. True, JNJ stock benefits from a Moderate Buy consensus rating from Wall Street analysts. On the other hand, the Barchart Technical Opinion indicator rates the equity as a 40% Sell. It's not the worst signal in the world but it's not exactly comforting either. Nevertheless, there's a chance that JNJ stock can break out of its sideways funk that it's been on since early April. As it stands, the security printed a 6-4-D sequence: six up weeks, four down weeks, with a net negative trajectory across the 10-week period. In 66.67% of cases, the following week's price action results in upside, with a median return of 1.33%. If the implications of the above pattern pan out as expected, JNJ stock could theoretically reach above the $157 level. Assuming the bulls maintain control of the market, a push above $158 isn't out of the question. With the above intel in mind, aggressive traders may consider the 155/157.50 bull call spread expiring on June 20, which is less than two weeks from now. Lululemon Athletica (LULU) For a high-risk, high-reward idea, speculators may consider Lululemon Athletica (LULU). As Barchart content partner Motley Fool mentioned, LULU stock crashed after the underlying company released its first-quarter earnings report. Actual results were so-so but the market seemed to reserve the bulk of skepticism toward President Donald Trump's tariffs policy, which appeared to contribute to a weak sales outlook. Whatever the case, LULU stock dropped nearly 20% on Friday. Not surprisingly, the financial publication ecosystem has largely labeled the security a name to avoid. However, from a statistical standpoint, Lululemon could be interesting. In the past two months, LULU stock printed a 6-4-D sequence: six up weeks, four down weeks, with a net negative trajectory across the period. In 60.71% of cases, the following week's price action results in upside, with a median return of 6.12%. That means if the implications of the above pattern pan out, LULU could hit $281.50 within a short time frame. For those who really want to swing for the fences (but do so rationally), the 275/280 bull call spread expiring June 27 is awfully tempting. This transaction calls for a net debit of $185 and if LULU stock rises through the short strike price at expiration, the maximum reward is $315, a payout of over 170%.
