Impersonation incident: Perlis Health Dept tightens security at all facilities
State Health director Dr Ghazali Chik said health facilities in Perlis comprise 13 health and 27 rural clinics, as well as Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) here.
Speaking to reporters after the opening of the State Legislative Assembly by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, he emphasised the importance of closely monitoring any suspicious activity.
Last night, Bernama reported that the Perlis Health Department confirmed that a 22-year-old man impersonated an assistant medical officer (PPP) at the HTF compound on April 8, with the incident going viral on TikTok on April 20.
Kangar police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that a report on the incident was received on April 9 and the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code.
Elaborating, Dr Ghazali said the impersonator was detected early within the HTF compound and, as such, the man did not enter the hospital premises or meet with any patients.
'To my knowledge, this is the first case (involving impersonation). Our records do not indicate any similar cases in the past at the HTF or within our clinic network,' he said.
In a separate matter, Dr Ghazali confirmed that a Form Three student is in stable condition and receiving treatment at HTF after experiencing seizures believed to have been triggered by vaping.
'I have not yet received the full report. The student remains in the ward and is stable,' he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that an incident occurred at 9.35 am when a student and two friends allegedly left their classroom without permission during an English language test.
Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin said a teacher on duty noticed the unconscious student being carried back into the classroom by two friends. The student was foaming at the mouth and was immediately rushed to HTF.

Melaka achieves 60.51% measles-rubella vaccination coverage in 12 days
MELAKA: A total of 60.51 per cent or 27,166 children in Melaka have received the Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunisation Activity (MRSIA) vaccination since August 4. Ngwe announced this during the launch of the Melaka-level Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera (BMSS) celebration, attended by state Health director Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa. He said the vaccination coverage exceeded the initial 12-day target of 36.36 per cent. The Melaka Health Department aims to vaccinate over 95 per cent of eligible children within the campaign period. Parents are urged to ensure children aged six to 59 months, born between August 1, 2020, and January 31, 2025, receive the free supplementary vaccination. Dr. Ruzita said over 13 health programmes will run in September as part of BMSS, targeting communities and schools. Health screenings will be held at three district hospitals and clinics from September 1 to 30. The programme includes the Orang Asli community through collaborations with various agencies. GENERAL MELAKA, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 60.51 per cent or 27,166 children in Melaka have been vaccinated through the Measles-Rubella Supplementary Immunisation Activity (MRSIA) within 12 days since Aug 4. State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said that out of this number, 14,922 children were in the Melaka Tengah district, 6,194 in Alor Gajah and 6,050 in Jasin. Throughout the 10-week MRSIA campaign, a total of 46,500 children in Melaka are targeted to receive the supplementary vaccine, with 26,500 in the Melaka Tengah district, 12,000 in Alor Gajah and 8,000 in Jasin. To date, the Jasin district has recorded the highest percentage of children who have received the vaccination, at 77.73 per cent, followed by Melaka Tengah (58.43 per cent) and Alor Gajah (53.63 per cent), he told reporters at a shopping mall here today. He said the Melaka Health Department is committed to ensuring that more than 95 per cent of the eligible children in Melaka receive the supplementary vaccinations within the stipulated time, free of charge. "There is still time for parents to ensure that their children, aged six to 59 months who were born between Aug 1, 2020 and Jan 31, 2025, receive supplementary vaccinations so that they are protected from the threat of infectious diseases such as measles," he said. Meanwhile, Dr. Ruzita said that in conjunction with the BMSS celebration in September, more than 13 programmes and activities related to healthy living practices and disease prevention have been planned, involving the community, society and school students in the state.

Right time and ready hands save man's life
JOHOR BARU: Five Malaysian patient care associates (PCA) working in Singapore became real-life heroes when they helped save the life of a man who collapsed at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex here. The drama unfolded on the afternoon of Aug 9 after their morning shifts at two hospitals across the border ended. Shareen Kaur Ranjit Singh, 29, and her colleagues Subhashini Subramaniam, 26, and Veenoshini Sandrasagaran, 36, suddenly heard a woman shouting for help while waiting for their e-hailing rides at BSI's pickuppoint near Jalan Jim Quee. 'We thought the man was having a seizure, as he was convulsing on the ground. We turned him on his back and found he had a low pulse and was struggling to breathe, so I immediately started performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while Veenoshini monitored his pulse and Subhashini called for an ambulance,' she said when interviewed. Shareen added that the man soon lost consciousness, stopped breathing and began foaming at the mouth. 'To complicate matters, the woman with the victim could not speak English or Bahasa Malaysia, so one of us used a translation app to communicate with her. 'The scene was chaotic, despite police and Rela personnel keeping people back – there were still many travellers passing by, and the area was noisy. 'It was very different from the hospital environment where we are usually assisted by other healthcare workers,' she said, adding that Subashini also checked his bag and found his medication, which served as crucial information for the arriving paramedics. Veenoshini said: 'Despite fearing for his life, we tried our best to keep our cool and never gave up. I felt so relieved when his pulse came back.' Meanwhile, Nanthiine Gudial Kumaran, 28, said she was with her colleague Hemadewi Balakrishnan, 34, when they arrived at the BSI a few minutes after the other three started performing the emergency response. 'My training took over right away; we just looked at each other and knew what to do. 'Our duty as healthcare workers don't end when our shift does, no matter where we are,' she said, stressing the importance of learning CPR and first aid. Nanthiine, who has been working in the healthcare sector in Singapore for close to five years, said the five of them did not realise they were working at sister hospitals in the republic until after the man was taken away by ambulance. A video of the five of them, wearing the same coloured uniforms, made the rounds on social media, with many calling them 'real-life heroes'. It was learnt that the victim, an Australian in his 50s, had a medical history of high blood pressure and low blood sugar. The emergency was reported at 4.23pm and first responders arrived about two minutes later, followed by the ambulance at 4.39pm. Nanthiine said they each went their separate ways after the incident, but she was taken aback to wake up to a deluge of messages from friends, family, and even strangers online the next day. 'Some called us angels, which was a first for us,' she said, adding that their respective hospitals' chief executive officers also recognised their efforts. She also said they usually commute across the border using transportation provided by their employer, but on the day of the incident, which was Singapore's National Day, they decided to take an e-hailing ride. 'We were just at the right place at the right time. More importantly, it showed the importance of being ready to help, regardless of where we are,' added Nanthiine.
