Perlis Health Dept tightens security after impersonation incident

KANGAR: Security has been tightened at all Perlis health facilities, including clinics and hospitals, to prevent impersonation of healthcare personnel. State Health director Dr Ghazali Chik said health facilities in Perlis comprise 13 health and 27 rural clinics, as well as Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) here. Speaking to reporters after the opening of the State Legislative Assembly by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, he emphasised the importance of closely monitoring any suspicious activity. Last night, Bernama reported that the Perlis Health Department confirmed that a 22-year-old man impersonated an assistant medical officer (PPP) at the HTF compound on April 8, with the incident going viral on TikTok on April 20. Kangar police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that a report on the incident was received on April 9 and the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code. Elaborating, Dr Ghazali said the impersonator was detected early within the HTF compound and, as such, the man did not enter the hospital premises or meet with any patients. 'To my knowledge, this is the first case (involving impersonation). Our records do not indicate any similar cases in the past at the HTF or within our clinic network,' he said. In a separate matter, Dr Ghazali confirmed that a Form Three student is in stable condition and receiving treatment at HTF after experiencing seizures believed to have been triggered by vaping. 'I have not yet received the full report. The student remains in the ward and is stable,' he said. Yesterday, it was reported that an incident occurred at 9.35 am when a student and two friends allegedly left their classroom without permission during an English language test. Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin said a teacher on duty noticed the unconscious student being carried back into the classroom by two friends. The student was foaming at the mouth and was immediately rushed to HTF.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A government hospital in Perlis has filed a police report after a 23-year-old man posed as an assistant medical officer, complete with uniform and a bag of medical equipment. The state health department said the incident occurred at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar at about 9.30pm on April 8, with the man admitting to having purchased the uniform and equipment online. We would also like to remind the public that pretending to be a civil servant is a crime under Section 170 of the Penal Code,' it said.

Form 3 student suffers seizures after vaping in school toilet

KANGAR: A Form Three student from a school on the outskirts of Kangar was rushed to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah earlier today (April 21) after reportedly suffering a seizure, believed to have been triggered by vaping. The incident occurred at 9.35am when the student, accompanied by two friends, left the classroom without the teacher's permission during an English examination. Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin said that while another teacher had taken over invigilating the exam, she witnessed the student being carried back into the classroom by his friends. "The student was unconscious and foaming at the mouth. The teacher immediately alerted the school administration, and an ambulance was called to transport the student to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah," she said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the student had been vaping in the school toilet with friends. However, the specific type of vape device used has yet to be identified by medical staff. Rose Aza said that the student was currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and that the school's discipline teacher and counsellor had been instructed to visit the student to assist in the ongoing inquiry. "Our department has notified the student's family and coordinated an emergency medical response. The school has also submitted an initial report to the Student Affairs Unit under the Student Development Sector at the Perlis Education Department," she said. This marks the second known case of vape misuse involving school students. Last year, a secondary school student sustained injuries after falling from the roof of a second-floor corridor while allegedly under the influence of vaping.

Police probe man who posed as medical assistant at Kangar hospital

KANGAR: Police launched an investigation into an incident involving a man who allegedly posed as a medical assistant at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) earlier this month. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the incident occurred at 9.23pm on April 8, when a 43-year-old hospital staff member was alerted by a colleague who had seen a man in full medical assistant attire riding a motorcycle towards the hospital. "At 9.28pm, the suspect entered the hospital grounds. The complainant intercepted him in front of the specialist clinic building and discovered that he was only 22 years old. "The suspect claimed he was employed at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and was currently on leave. The complainant then escorted him to the emergency department for further questioning," he said in a statement today. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to impersonating a medical assistant. "He said he did so out of personal interest. The uniform was purchased online, and the stethoscope had been taken from a security guard's desk at the hospital. "The hospital staff confiscated all the items, including the stolen stethoscope, and contacted the suspect's elder brother to take him home. The family was also advised to monitor his behaviour and was informed of the seriousness of the offence," he added. A police report was lodged at the Kangar Police Station at 4.05pm the following day, as hospital staff were concerned the incident could happen again. The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.
