Over 900,000 users to benefit from postponed toll hike on 10 highways
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision will help ease the burden of daily highway users, especially those commuting to work.
'As the Prime Minister stated, toll rates for the 10 affected highways were scheduled to increase this year, in line with agreements signed by the previous administration.
'However, the MADANI government fully understands the financial pressures faced by the public,' he said in a statement.
To honour this commitment, Nanta said the government, through the Finance Ministry, will allocate over RM500 million in compensation to the concessionaires to ensure uninterrupted highway operations and safe, well-maintained infrastructure.
Nanta said the move was not an easy one, but was made with thoughtful deliberation and a responsible approach.
'It reflects the government's commitment to listening to the people and placing their needs at the heart of every MADANI policy.
'The ministry and I remain fully committed to ensuring our roads and highways are safe, well-maintained, and accessible to all Malaysians,' he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made a special announcement that the government had agreed to postpone toll rate increases for 10 highways, allowing users to continue enjoying current rates.
Among the highways involved are the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE), East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Butterworth Outer Ring Road (LLB), and Kuala Lumpur–Putrajaya Expressway (MEX). — BERNAMA

RM100 Sara aid requires no registration, public warned of scams
GEORGE TOWN: The Finance Ministry has urged the public to be cautious of fraudulent attempts linked to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara). Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the assistance does not require any application or registration, as it will be credited directly to all eligible MyKad holders aged 18 and above starting Aug 31. "We have received numerous inquiries about how to register for the RM100 Saraassistance. "There have also been complaints about fake links and messages claiming that registration is required to receive the aid. These claims are false and highly dangerous. Do not click on any such links - they are scams," she warned. "I want to stress that there is no need to apply or register for the RM100 assistance, as it will be automatically credited to recipients' MyKad. So, there's no cause for concern - everyone aged 18 and above will receive it. "Only if they do not receive it after Aug 31 will we take further action and inform them accordingly," she said. Meanwhile, Lim said the government is also open to considering the inclusion of wet goods such as chicken, meat, and fish under Sara. However, she noted that this would require thorough study, including gathering feedback from all stakeholders, particularly SARA recipients. "We continue to listen to feedback and suggestions regarding the list of items under Sara. "There have been proposals to include wet goods such as fish, meat, and chicken. We will monitor and assess the situation, and when the time is right and if deemed necessary, we will consider expanding the list," she said. She said that on May 1, the government expanded the Sara initiative to include household cleaning products, such as laundry detergent, floor cleaner, and dishwashing liquid, in addition to the existing categories covering basic food items, medicines, school supplies, and personal hygiene products. The inclusion of these new items increased the number of eligible product categories from 13 to 14, covering a total of 90,000 types of goods. This decision was based on feedback received during the implementation Sara early this year.

Cops shut down ‘Turun Anwar' stage at Dataran Merdeka over safety, lack of DBKL approval
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Police instructed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to dismantle the main stage set up at Dataran Merdeka for an event today, citing safety concerns and lack of approval. The demonstration began outside Sogo and Pertama Complex and is expected to move towards Dataran Merdeka after 1pm.

Traffic at Jalan Dang Wangi paralysed as ‘Turun Anwar' rally crowd swells
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Traffic at Jalan Dang Wangi has come to a stand still due to the sizable crowd protesting against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. Thousands of protestors dressed predominantly in black are gathered in front of Sogo supermarket and Pertama Complex causing a traffic jam. PAS leaders like Pasir Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh were seen giving speeches to rally the crowd, calling for Anwar's immediate resignation. Nik said Anwar reneged on all his promises and is causing investors to shy away from Malaysia stagnating the economy.
