Zachary Levi describes facing wrath of Hollywood for supporting Trump
Zachary Levi is opening up on navigating the backlash he's faced due to his support of Donald Trump and espousing controversial views on Covid-19 vaccines.
The Shazam! star endorsed Trump in the 2024 presidential election after his preferred candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out and joined forces with the MAGA leader.
Already courting 'cancellation' because of his vaccine scepticism, he called the move 'career suicide' at the time because 'Hollywood is a very, very liberal town.'
In a wide-ranging interview published May 22, Levi revealed that he's since experienced the wrath of Hollywood.
'I know that there are people that would prefer not to work with me now because of my opinions. My team has let me know,' he told Variety executive editor Tatiana Siegel. 'They haven't given me any specific names, but there are people who prefer not to work with me at this time. And it's unfortunate.'
The self-described Hollywood pariah – whose credits include Chuck , Thor: Ragnarok and Harold And The Purple Crayon – also revealed that while he may be one of few people in the industry who publicly came forward with their support of Trump, he's not the only one.
'I know it to be true because I've gotten messages from lots of people who I won't name but who were very grateful to me for taking the stand that I took,' Levi said.
'They would tell me, 'I want to do that, but I'm so afraid.' And I would tell them, 'Listen, you're on your journey. I'm on my journey. You've got to keep trusting God. And if you feel compelled to step out in that way, then do it boldly and know that you're going to be OK.
"And if you don't feel that conviction yet, then don't. It's all good.''
The 44-year-old Louisiana native, who welcomed his first child with photographer Maggie Keating in April, also shared his true thoughts on Trump himself, saying he's not blind to certain issues.
'I was not a fan of Trump's Trumpiness. I didn't like a lot of these personal things, the ways that he carries himself a lot of the time,' Levi confessed.
'I understand people's aversion. Do I think the whole package is somehow perfect? No. In fact, most people who voted for Donald Trump recognise a lot of the imperfections in all of it. Nobody was saying, 'This is the Orange Messiah.'' – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Cambodian PM says 19% US trade tariff 'the best news'
PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Friday welcomed a 19 percent trade tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump, avoiding a threatened levy of 36 percent. 'This is the best news for the people and economy of Cambodia to continue to develop the country,' Hun Manet wrote on Facebook. Trump had originally threatened a swingeing 49 percent tariff on Cambodia as part of his 'Liberation Day' measures aimed at rebalancing world trade in America's favour, but cut it to 36 percent last month. Dozens of countries face steep levies under the tariff regime approved by Trump in Washington on Thursday, set to come into force in a week. Cambodia is a major manufacturer of low-cost clothing for Western brands, with garment products accounting for most of its $10 billion in exports to the United States last year. Many factories in Cambodia are Chinese-owned and the White House has accused the kingdom of allowing Chinese goods to stop over on the way to US markets, thereby skirting steeper rates imposed on Beijing. Stocks struggle as Trump unveils new tariff sweep
HONG KONG: Asian markets mostly fell Friday (Aug 1) as Donald Trump announced tariffs on dozens of trading partners ahead of a self-imposed deadline, offsetting strong earnings from tech giants. With hours to go before the US president's deadline for governments to make toll-averting deals, he unveiled a list of sweeping levies he had decided to impose upon those still in talks. However, he did provide a minor reprieve by saying the measures will take effect next Friday. Governments around the world have been scrambling to cut agreements with the White House since Trump unveiled his bombshell "Liberation Day" tariffs on April 2, which included 10 per cent across the board and then targeted "reciprocal" ones. He then delayed implementation of the reciprocals until July 9, and then August 1, and next week. Some countries reached deals, including Japan, the European Union, Britain and recently South Korea, but most are yet to do so. China remains in talks with Washington to extend a fragile truce in place since May. For those in the crosshairs of the latest outburst, the measures range from 10 percent to 41 per cent. Canada was singled out for a 35 per cent hit, with Trump earlier hitting out at its failure to deal cross-border drugs issues and Ottawa's plan to recognise a Palestinian state. Taiwan faces 20 per cent "temporary" duties, with its President Lai Ching-te saying there was a possibility of reductions should an agreement be reached, while Cambodia welcomed a 19 per cent rate as it was well down from the initial 36 per cent initially threatened. Asian equities mostly fell as they contemplate the impact on the global economy. Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, Wellington and Taipei were all down. Seoul dived more than three per cent as the South Korean government considers higher taxes on corporations and stock investors to shore up revenue. There were gains in Singapore, Manila and Jakarta. "Overall, the tariffs are relatively expected for Asia," said Lorraine Tan, Morningstar director of equity research in Asia. "The fact that the larger export countries such as Korea and Japan are at 15 per cent and the South-East Asian countries are at 19 percent is a fairly reasonable outcome especially after the initial April 2 shock. Hence we think the markets should shrug this news off." The losses tracked a sell-off on Washington, where traders' hopes for a September interest rate cut were dented by data showing the Federal Reserve preferred gauge of inflation rose more than expected last month and topped forecasts. The figures came a day after the central bank appeared guarded about the outlook, even as Trump puts pressure on boss Jerome Powell to reduce borrowing costs. "US interest rate traders have lowered the implied probability for a cut from the Fed in September... and as such, the central position is progressively leaning to the Fed keeping rates on hold in the September (policy) meeting," Chris Weston of Pepperstone said. The tariff uncertainty overshadowed earnings from major tech titans this week that saw Apple on Thursday post double-digit quarterly revenue growth that beat expectations. And Amazon said quarterly profits jumped 35 per cent as key major investments in AI technology pay off, though its outlook for the next three months disappointed. Google, Microsoft and Meta have also posted bumper results for the period.
