Texas A&M receives interesting record prediction ahead of the 2025 season
Texas A&M's 2025 football season will soon be under the spotlight this summer once "talking season" begins, ahead of the 2025 SEC Media Day on July 15-18 in Atlanta, Georgia. Second-year head coach Mike Elko and his staff landed 14 players from the transfer portal this offseason, led by wide receiver KC Concepcion, and four edge rushers who shore up the pass rush.
For those who cover the program, opinions vary, primarily based on starting quarterback Marcel Reed's progress as a pocket passer, as Conner Weigman's offseason transfer to Houston places the Tennessee native in the driver's seat. During the Maroon & White spring game, Reed's accuracy and touch on these throws looked above average, while his new wide receiver corps possesses more speed and separation that will help him out, especially in the short passing game.
Barring any setbacks, Reed's improvement combined with a veteran offensive line, a deep running back room, and a defense that should be much better in the secondary under new assistant Lyle Hemphill, the Aggies' tough schedule is the only thing standing in the way of a nine, or, hear me out, a ten win season.
With road games against Notre Dame, LSU, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas, Texas A&M's offense must be balanced, while the defense can't allow explosive plays through the air. If this Aggies team can emulate the 2020 Orange Bowl Championship squad, earning a bid to the College Football Playoff isn't out of reach.
Plus, I'm not the only one who feels Texas A&M has a shot to make a run next season. CFBHourGlass writer Jake Wimberly released his 2025 SEC record predictions, believing that Texas A&M, LSU, and Georgia will finish 10-2 (!), while Texas and QB Arch Manning will end with a perfect 12-0 record.
While it isn't shown, I guess that Texas A&M's two losses will be at Texas and either on the road against Notre Dame or LSU, which makes more sense if the Aggies live up to their potential.

Head coach Jonathan Smith provides an injury update on the Spartans on the first day of fall camp In the words of Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith, the Spartans are starting fall preseason camp in a "solid" spot on the injury front. Michigan State opened up fall preseason camp on Tuesday, with the Spartans holding their first practice of the 2025 season. As part of fall camp opening, media was able to attend a brief portion of practice and have availability to ask questions to a number of players and Smith. One of the typically asked questions during this time of year is the injury status of the team, which Smith was able to provide a positive response. "I'd say solid," Smith said when asked about the overall team health of the Spartans. "Knock on wood, but we haven't came across the season-ending injury (or anything) to that extent. We definitely are being, I'll call it, smart with some guys in camp and we will ease them into it. But currently, we are feeling pretty solid." Now, preseason camp has just started so, of course, we are only dipping our toes into the injury front at this time. But, this is certainly reassuring knowing there aren't any offseason injuries that Smith and the Spartans were ready to announce on opening day of fall camp. This is a notable development as we get going on the 2025 season. Throughout fall camp, injuries will be something to monitor so stick with Spartans Wire for the latest updates. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith makes a major award watch list
Rejoice, college football fans! It's preseason watch list time, and one of the biggest ones announced its preseason watch list on Monday, and there is indeed an Ohio State football player on it. The Maxwell Award has been handed out annually since 1937 and goes to the players judged to be the best in college football. The award announced 80 names, and OSU wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was included (to nobody's surprise). Four Ohio State players have taken home the award that is handed out by the Maxwell Football Club since its inception. Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy won it in 1955, fullback Bob Ferguson took it home in 1961, Heisman winner Archie Griffin won in 1975, and Eddie George was the last to hold the Maxwell in 1995. Obviously, being on the preseason watch list means little because names can be added and culled down as the season goes on, but you have to be on the list at some point to win it, so Smith has that going for him. The superstar wide receiver hauled in 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and had some of his biggest moments during the College Football Playoff national championship run. He should be poised to have another phenomenal year this fall as well as appointment television. Joel Klatt has highest possible praise for Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith
The amount of love being heaped on Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith isn't too terribly surprising. After all, all you have to do is look at the season he put together as a freshman is perphaps second to none in the history of the game for a wide receiver. Count Fox's Joel Klatt into that same group of admirers because the praise he had for the OSU superstar when counting down the top ten players in college football might be the most complimentary comments I've ever heard. To nobody's surprise, Klatt named Smith as the No. 1 player in the country but went on a long summarization of why, including his work ethic, talent, upside, and more. In large part, he called Smith the "greatest college football player I've ever seen." But it goes much deeper than that. As a footnote that really shouldn't be, Klatt not only ranked Smith at No. 1, he also named Ohio State safety Caleb Downs as the No. 2 player in the game for 2025.
