Pakistan's artillery shortage limits nation's warfighting capacity to just 4 days: Reports
Pakistan is facing a critical shortage of artillery ammunition due to recent arms deals with Ukraine, limiting its warfighting capabilities to just four days, according to reports.
Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), which supply ammunition to the military, are struggling to keep up with surging global demand and outdated production facilities, reported ANI. As a result, ammunition reserves have not been replenished and can sustain only 96 hours of high-intensity conflict.
Pakistan's military relies on artillery and armoured units for rapid mobilisation against the numerically superior Indian Army. However, without sufficient 155mm shells for M109 howitzers or 122mm rockets for BM-21 systems, this artillery-heavy doctrine is severely compromised.
Reports suggest that the POF have struggled to replenish the domestic stockpile following the sale of 155mm ammunition to Ukraine.
IANS reported that Pakistan's decision to meet international arms demands at the expense of the country's security was an attempt to balance "economic desperation against strategic survival."
Pakistan's economic crisis, characterised by high inflation, mounting debt, and dwindling foreign exchange reserves, has further impacted the military's operational capabilities.
The army has been forced to cut back on rations, suspend military exercises, and halt scheduled war games due to fuel shortages.

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Congress leader Sachin Pilot said that large-scale job fair organised by the party on Thursday to commemorate Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's 55th birthday was the 'best gift' the party could give to its leader. Speaking to ANI about the job fair, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, 'Today the Congress party has provided a platform where thousands of youth have got the opportunity to get employment... The central government and the ruling party should learn a lesson from this. Will they do only politics or will they do something for the people of the country as well? ... We cannot give a better gift than this to Rahul Gandhi.' Congress MP Rahul Gandhi arrived at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Headquarters at 24 Akbar Road in Delhi on Thursday, as he celebrated his 55th birthday. Party workers gathered in large numbers to extend their best wishes to the Congress leader, creating a festive atmosphere at the AICC premises. Congress supporters distributed sweets and celebrated the occasion. Many extended birthday greetings to Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on his 55th birthday, commending his unwavering commitment to constitutional values, social justice, and the upliftment of marginalised communities. The Congress party also honoured Rahul Gandhi's leadership on social media, calling him a 'true crusader for justice'. Meanwhile, while speaking to mediapersons here today, Sachin Pilot responded to US President Donald Trump's statement. 'The US President is consistently and continuously saying that he brokered the ceasefire by either showing the threat or allurement for a trade Spokesperson have denied that, but from the highest levels that statement should be contradicted, if it is hosting the Pakistani Army Chief at the White House, it is a clear indication of how the US government sees the Indo-Pak Indian government must attain more global alliances to take on this posturing that the US government is will never accept any mediation on are calling for a special session of the Parliament to send a message that PoK is ours,' said Pilot. Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also reacted on the same and told ANI, 'There has not been a single statement from the Prime Minister on this. General Asim, who has a role in promoting terrorism, is having lunch with Trump. Trump is saying that he is our good friend. Our foreign policy has completely failed. This government, the Prime Minister should pay attention to this.' This comes after US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) hosted Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House for a lunch meeting, praising Munir for his role in preventing the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan. Trump said, 'The reason I had him here was I wanted to thank him for not going into the war and ending it...' Earlier, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also raised concerns and said that it was a huge blow to Indian diplomacy. In a post on X, Jairam said that Munir is the same man whose inflammatory remarks formed the backdrop to the brutal Pahalgam attack on April 22. 'Field Marshall Asim Munir is NOT the Head of State or Head of Government of Pakistan. He is the Chief of Army Staff. Yet he gets invited by President Trump for lunch and receives much praise. This is the same man whose atrocious and inflammatory remarks formed the immediate backdrop to the brutal Pahalgam terror attacks orchestrated by the establishment over which he presides,' he said. 'It is a huge blow to Indian diplomacy (and huglomacy too),' Jairam added. (ANI)

Omar Abdullah lauds Vande Bharat train experience, says will consider
Samba (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 19 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised the Vande Bharat Express after travelling on the newly launched Katra-Srinagar route on Thursday, calling the high-speed train the 'best way' to commute between Srinagar and Jammu. The CM said he would soon speak to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about increasing the frequency or capacity of the train to meet high demand on the route. 'The journey was very good. The train is excellent, and these days, if you have to come quickly from Srinagar to Jammu or vice versa, there is no better way than this. Secondly, it will definitely impact tourism. The demand is so much that as per what I am hearing, it has become very difficult to get tickets in this train for the next 1 month,' Omar Abdullah said. 'After speaking to Railway Minister Ashwini ji, we will see if we can increase the frequency of this train or the carriages in this train, because the demand is very high. Now, to meet the demand, we will have to take some steps immediately,' he added. CM Abdullah also reviewed preparations for the Amarnath Yatra and upcoming Muharram, assuring that the administration is fully geared up. 'Today, I reviewed the situation in Jammu regarding the summers. I especially asked about the arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra and Muharram. All the preparations have been done from our side. Now we are waiting for the pilgrims and hope that their Yatra is comfortable.' Addressing the recent Air India plane crash, Abdullah urged restraint and patience while investigations are ongoing. 'Accountability will be fixed. Who said accountability will not be fixed? Right now, we do not know how the plane crashed. We should wait. Both the black boxes have been found. An inquiry has been set up...' The Chief Minister also welcomed the return of tourists to Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Kashmir Valley and Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. 'I want to thank all the tourists who have started coming back to Jammu and Kashmir and especially Kashmir. Similarly, the number of pilgrims who stopped visiting Mata Vaishno Devi immediately after Pahalgam has also increased. Similarly, the trend of tourism is increasing in Kashmir...,' he said. The Vande Bharat Express operating on the newly launched Katra-Srinagar route is witnessing overwhelming demand from passengers, with bookings full for the next 10 days, according to railway authorities. Earlier last week, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah travelled in the Vande Bharat train and paid obeisance at the Maa Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. Farooq Abdullah said that he had a 'good darshan' at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and that he prayed for prosperity and brotherhood in the region. (ANI)
