2025 Foton Tunland price and specs revealed
The Tunland previously made headlines for its resemblance to features found in America's best-selling ute, the RAM 1500.
And now more details on the company's hybrid ute have been revealed.
There has been a growing number of Chinese utes entering Australia, and the Tunland will join this line-up, which includes the JAC T9, LDV Terron 9, and GWM Cannon.
Glen Cooper, General Manager of Foton Australia, said the new Tunland is a 'Goldilocks' ute that delivers a compelling blend of performance, technology, and value, tailored specifically to the Australian market.
'The all-new Tunland is a fresh and capable new contender in the ute segment, offering commercial-grade space and toughness, combined with the comfort and technology modern drivers expect,' he said.
'We've backed that up with tens of thousands of kilometres of local testing to ensure it's tuned for Australian conditions and built to deliver exactly what drivers need — whether it's for work, play, or everything in between.
'We see real potential for the Tunland to shake up the category by delivering greater versatility, space, and refinement in a truly value-packed offering.'
While final features and specifications are yet to be confirmed, Foton has revealed four trim levels that will be available across two model lines: the V7 and the V9.
The V7 will be available in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations, catering to buyers seeking either a work-related vehicle or a more capable off-roader.
Meanwhile, the higher-spec V9 will only be available in a 4x4 configuration and will come in two versions: the more comfort-focused V9 L and the sportier V9 S.
The base model will start at $39,990 plus on-road costs, while the flagship V9 S will begin at $49,990 plus on-road costs. This pricing is slightly higher than competitors like the JAC T9, which is available for a drive-away price under $50,000, and the GWM Cannon, priced at $49,900 drive-away.
Under the bonnet, all Tunland models will be powered by a 2.0-litre Aucan turbo-diesel engine paired with 48V mild-hybrid technology and a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
Foton also fulfils the essential criteria for selling a ute in Australia.
The Tunland has an impressive braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload capacity exceeding one tonne.
Additionally, it is equipped with a range of driver safety features, ensuring both power and protection on the road.
Foton originally entered the Australian market in 2012 with the first-generation Tunland ute, but exited in 2017 after changing local distributors three times. Now, the brand is back, hoping for a more substantial and stable return with a much more refined and competitive product.

'Welcome relief': Banks pass on cuts, as Reserve Bank lowers interest rate to 3.6 per cent
Two of Australia's big four banks have vowed to pass on the 0.25 percentage point rate cut handed down by the Reserve Bank of Australia, after it announced a reduction in the cash rate from 3.85 to 3.6 per cent. CBA and Westpac announced they would pass the cut on in full to customers, as did Macquarie. Treasurer Jim Chalmers said the widely anticipated decision was "welcome relief" for borrowers and would "put more money in the pockets of people who are under pressure". Chalmers said Australians could thank themselves for lowering inflation but acknowledged that a cut to the official cash rate "won't solve every problem we have in our economy". It marks the third interest rate cut of the year, following similar reductions in February and May. My Bui, an economist at financial services firm AMP, told SBS On the Money podcast the announcement is "pretty much no surprise". She said the RBA economic outlook, also released today, points to more rate cuts in the coming months. "The RBA still sees the unemployment rate peaking slightly higher from now as well as inflation sustainably landing in the midpoint of the target, so for me that's a sign of more rate cuts to come," she said. Meanwhile, some economists have criticised the central bank's decision to wait until August to announce the cut. Diana Mousina, deputy chief economist at AMP, said: "I think it's the rate cut we didn't get in July." Treasurer Jim Chalmers welcomes third rate cut in six months as ‘good day' for homeowners
Jim Chalmers has welcomed the Reserve Bank's third rate cut in six months, after the cash rate was cut by 25 basis points to 3.6 per cent, the lowest level in 28 months. The Treasurer said households would receive $109 a month for every $700,000 owed, with this year's three cuts amounting to $330 a month, or nearly $4000 a year. 'We know there's more work to do, but we also know that when interest rates are cut three times in the space of six months that provides meaningful relief to millions of people,' he said. 'And that's why today is a good day.' However, he declined to say what he thought should be the 'neutral cash rate', where the economy is growing at a healthy pace without causing inflation to rise too quickly or unemployment to increase. 'That's not something that I focus on. We know that interest rates have been restrictive for some time … that's why it's so welcome that we've had these three rate cuts in six months,' he said. '(We're) getting closer to neutral, however you want to define neutral interest rates.' RBA governor Michele Bullock said on Tuesday the bank's estimate for a neutral rate sat in a 'very wide range' of between 1 to 4 per cent. She also declined to says where she thought the cash rate 'might end up'. 'You'll note that in the forecasts we have inflation coming back down to target and the unemployment rate remaining where it is with a couple of more cash rate cuts in there,' she said. 'That's the best sort of guess but things can change, and the board has to be taking things meeting by meeting and absorbing the data and thinking about … whether or not we're on track to achieve our goals.' 'It noted that monetary policy is well placed to respond decisively to international developments if they were to have material implications for activity and inflation in Australia,' the statement said. However it also said the cut came at an 'appropriate' time. 'With underlying inflation continuing to decline back towards the midpoint of the 2-3 per cent range and labour market conditions easing slightly, as expected, the board judged that a further easing of monetary policy was appropriate,' it said. While Mr Chalmers acknowledged that there were still 'structural issues in our economy' – especially around productivity – and an uncertain international outlook, he said the 'interest rate decision puts us in good stead'. 'It gives us confidence that we're on the right track when it comes to dealing with these cost of living pressures in our economy, primarily inflation,' he said. 'And it gives us confidence that this progress that we've made together on some of the cyclic issues that we can now use that as a foundation to deal with some of the more structural issues in our economy.' Shadow treasurer Ted O'Brien said despite the cash rate cut, Australians were 'becoming poorer' and they were 'feeling poorer for a reason'. 'Living standards will continue to be a problem in Australia as the cost of everything goes up,' he said from Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. 'There was some slight relief for mortgage holders who, under the new cash rate will be paying around about $1800 more every single month in interest payments, compared to when the Albanese government first came to office. 'This is some slight relief, but still, they are copping it.'
