Commissioner Mkhwanazi warns new recruits not to be corrupt
He was addressing a Passing Out Parade for 145 new police constables who were welcomed into the SAPS (South African Police Services) fold.

Delivering the keynote address, Mkhwanazi urged the newly ranked constables not to commit acts of lawlessness, including corruption.
He also cautioned graduates not to succumb to criminals wanting to befriend police officers in return for `protection' against the law.
'Some will be happy for you to a point of offering bribes, which they will refer to as cold drink, do not accept such. Love your country, respect the people you serve and respect the oath of office you took when you joined the police,' said Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi pointed out that protecting the lives of South Africa's citizens and themselves should be their (new recruit's) priority.
In July this year, Mkhwanazi who was accused of corruption, himself, made startling allegations of corruption within the police services. President Cyril Ramaphosa instituted the Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System following the explosive allegations.
Meanwhile, the IOL reported in July that female applicants for police force vacancies supercede that of their male counterparts. Over half a million females applied for vacancies within the SAPS when the entity advertised 5500 police vacancies in June this year. SAPS reportedly received over 400 000 applications from men.

Malema: National Dialogue is a waste of resources
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has denounced the National Dialogue, calling it a waste of state resources. Malema made the remarks on Saturday during the Siyabonga rally in Seshego, Polokwane, Limpopo, where the party celebrated its by-election victory in July. The EFF won the ward 13 by-election with 57% of the vote, while the African National Congress (ANC) secured 39%. Malema accused the government of ignoring community challenges while wasting millions on the National Dialogue. 'It served no purpose. Malema expressed confidence that the EFF will win more votes in Limpopo during the 2026 local government elections. 'We are ready to win wards in Bela Bela and across Limpopo. We want the EFF present in every township, municipality, and rural area, and we aim to take over government in contested wards,' Malema said. Malema also offered condolences to the widows and children of the Marikana massacre victims on the 13th anniversary of the tragedy at the Lonmin platinum mine in Rustenburg, North West. Police shot and killed 34 miners during a strike for higher wages. 'We send our condolences to the widows of Marikana and the children who lost their fathers. Marikana shaped the EFF into what it is today. The EFF and Marikana will always remain linked. Khamzat Chimaev obliterates Dricus du Plessis to be crowwned the new UFC middleweight in Chicago on Saturday night. The Russian fighter dominated the match, scoring frequent take-downs and gave the champion no room to manoeuvre. Ultimately Khamzat won the contest after all three judges scored 50-44 in favour of the challenger. Following the defeat to Khamzat, South African UFC fans took to social to react to Dricus's defeat. Some felt the South African put up a brave fight, while others celebrated his loss following his support for US President Donald Trump. Du Plessis congratulated the Russian fighter, admitting that he was beaten fair and squad. 'Big ups to Khamzat, he deserves this 100%. He beat me fair and square… I'll be back, and I'm coming to get my belt back. But for now it's his, and he deserves it.' Sports, Arts and Culture minister Gayton Mckenzie applauded the Pretoria fighter. 'Dricus du Plessis you made us proud as one of the great champions and we know you will be back. Parliament names MPs to serve on Ad Hoc Committee to probe Mkhwanazi allegations
Mayibongwe Maqhina | Published 2 weeks ago Parliament has named the MPs that will serve on the Ad Hoc Committee tasked with investigating the serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. This comes almost a week after the National Assembly unanimously resolved to establish the committee after adopting the report from the portfolio committees on Police and Justice and Constitutional Development, which made the recommendation. The committee will be constituted by 11 members, with four members from the ANC, two each from the DA and the MK Party, one member from the EFF, and two representatives to be recommended by other parties. Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said on Thursday that parties have nominated MPs who will serve on the committee. The ANC has nominated its chief whip, Mdumiseni Ntuli, Khusela Sangoni-Diko, Soviet Lekganyane, Xola Nqola, as full members, with Thoko Khanyile as an alternate member. The DA has fielded Ian Cameron and Glynnis Breytenbach as full members, while Diane Kohler Barnard and Lisa Schickerling are alternate members. The MK Party is represented by Sibonelo Nomvalo and David Skosana, with Vusi Shongwe as an alternate member. EFF leader Julius Malema will represent the EFF, and Leigh-Ann Mathys is an alternate member. The small parties are represented by IFP's Albert Mncwango and Patriotic Alliance MP Ashley Sauls. Freedom Front Plus MP Wouter Wessels and ActionSA's Dereleen James are alternate members for the small parties. The committee has until October 31 to report to the National Assembly. The committee's terms of reference include the alleged unlawful decision by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to disband the Political Killings Task Team. It will also examine the alleged unlawful removal of 121 case dockets from the Political Killings Task Team on the direction of Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and the alleged moratorium by Mchunu on filling vacancies within the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit. The committee will also scrutinise the nature and the implications of the relationship between SAPS senior leadership and certain members of the public. It will also probe whether the awarding of the R360 million contract to Vusumuzi Matlala's company for the provision of healthcare services to SAPS was irregular. The alleged interference by the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption in police matters, including judicial issues, will form part of its focus, as well as consider the need for legislative policy and institutional reform to restore public confidence in the criminal justice system.
