Netflix's Department Q fans must watch ‘mind-blowing' series from 12 years ago
Netflix's latest thriller Department Q has already been a huge hit with audiences, but many fans might not realise it's actually a remake - here's where to watch the original
Devotees of Department Q who have already binged this gripping new Netflix thriller should make a beeline for Prime Video for more.
Matthew Goode stars as the brilliant but self-absorbed detective Carl Morck, tasked with cracking cold cases in a grimy basement office to boost the reputation of the Edinburgh police department.
Meanwhile, his colleagues upstairs grapple with a seemingly random shooting that resulted in the death of a new officer and left Carl's partner paralysed.
The inaugural nine-part season has garnered glowing reviews from Netflix subscribers since its release at the end of May this year.
However, viewers who haven't scrutinised the credits might be taken aback to discover that the thriller isn't entirely original, reports the Express.
In fact, it draws inspiration from a series of 10 Danish Nordic crime novels known as Afdeling Q penned by author Jussi Adler-Olsen.
These were subsequently transformed into an ongoing film series, kicking off in 2013 with four more instalments yet to be released.
Fans of the Scottish adaptation by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani can celebrate, as the first three entries in the original series, The Keeper of Lost Causes, The Absent One and A Conspiracy of Faith, are currently available to stream on Viaplay UK via Amazon Prime.
If you're still on the fence, take a look at some rave reviews of the first film which thriller enthusiasts insist is well worth a watch.
A Google reviewer couldn't hold back their enthusiasm, declaring: "Please watch this series. It is mind-blowing to see how much engaging the story is. Definitely a better one. I'll give it 9/10."
Echoing the praise, another fan gushed: "One of the most suspenseful movies I have seen recently. The characters are flawless, real and gutsy."
A further review emphasised the movie's power to captivate, saying: "The concept of the movie is gripping and keeps you glued until the very end of the movie. Danish suspense/murder mystery movies must get more traction worldwide.
"This was one of those movies which has almost all elements, stellar acting, magnificent story, excellent editing, great screenplay and direction."
Rounding off the glowing testimonials, a final viewer extolled: "One of the best crime thrillers ever made. You'll never be disappointed watching this."
While Netflix remains tight-lipped about a sequel to Department Q, fans are encouraged not to miss out on what could be the ultimate binge-worthy experience.
Department Q is available to stream on Netflix. Watch the original Department Q films on Viaplay via Amazon Prime.

Shoppers urged to check eggs for one small detail to avoid risk of salmonella
Shoppers are being urged to look out for one small detail on their egg cartons to avoid the risk of salmonella, particularly if they are eating them raw or lightly cooked Eggs are a must-have in the weekly grocery haul, versatile enough for a quick scramble or fry-up to crafting elaborate soufflés, bakes or puddings. However, consumers are being urged to check their eggs for a crucial detail to sidestep the threat of salmonella, particularly if they're keen on consuming them raw or undercooked. The vital tip is to scout for the red British Lion symbol, which adorns over 90% of eggs retailed in the UK. highlights that this emblem signifies inclusion in the British Lion scheme, hailed as one of the nation's top food safety initiatives. Eggs bearing this mark come from hens immunised against salmonella. The entire journey of these eggs, from farmyard to store shelf, adheres to stringent safety protocols as part of the British Lion Code of Practice. This code guarantees traceability, cleanliness, and security at each phase. Since its inception in 1998, the scheme has seen the sale of more than 200 billion British Lion eggs, and it has "drastically reduced" the incidence of salmonella in UK eggs, reports the Express. Food Standards Scotland advises that at-risk groups such as little ones, expectant mothers, and the elderly can confidently eat raw or gently cooked hen eggs, provided they bear the British Lion stamp or originate from the Laid in Britain scheme. The agency's official information states: "People in these groups can eat raw or lightly cooked UK hen eggs or foods containing them as long as the eggs are produced under the Lion Code with a British Lion mark or under the Laid in Britain egg assurance scheme." These instructions apply to delectable options like mayonnaise, soufflés and tiramisu. Yet, if eggs do not fall within these certified schemes, or if there is any uncertainty, it is recommended that they be fully cooked, particularly for those who are more susceptible. Food Standards Scotland has also issued caution, advising against consuming eggs beyond their best before date, typically a maximum of 28 days post-laying, due to escalating risk of bacterial contamination. Beyond this time frame, the chances of bacterial growth climb significantly. It's crucial to note that the British Lion accreditation applies solely to hen eggs. The guidance specifies that duck, goose, or quail eggs, which are known for higher salmonella risks, should never be eaten raw or lightly cooked and require thorough cooking. British Lion-branded eggs are widely stocked across key retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, and Waitrose.

Has Eva Lasting been renewed for Season 4? Here's what we know:
Renewed Or Cancelled? Eva Lasting is a Colombian teen show on Netflix. It has a slate of newcomers in the cast roster and presents a unique take on the teen romance genre. It comes alive in Colombia in the '70s and '80s, which was a socially and politically turbulent time for the country. If you've finished watching this one and are wondering whether it's been renewed or not, we have all the information you need. What is Eva Lasting about? Set in 1970s Colombia, the third season of Eva Lasting follows the evolving journey of Eva Samper, who continues her romantic entanglement with Camilo Granados, and the growing pains of their close-knit circle of high school friends. As Eva, Camilo, and their companions prepare to graduate and enter university life, new realities surface. Season 2 ended with lingering questions about Eva's sudden departure, her fractured friendship with Luisa, and Camilo's unresolved feelings, all of which explored across these final 10 episodes. We have extensive coverage on the site for Eva Lasting, including recaps and a full season 1 review. You can find those HERE! Has Eva Lasting been renewed for season 3? At the time of writing, Eva Lasting has not been renewed for season 4, nor will it be. The show was announced last year that it would be returning for a third and final season, with 10 episodes to conclude out the storyline. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made so the fact Netflix made a decision on this one so quickly seems to indicate that there's a dedicated but relatively small audience for this one. Eva Lasting has had a pretty good reaction from critics and audiences alike though, with many enjoying the story and the characters. The series has had plenty of potential and ultimately bows out with a conclusive set of episodes to say goodbye to our characters. What we know about season 4 so far: Barely anything is known about season 4 at this point as Netflix have cancelled the show and it's not going to return. The only format we can realistically see this one come back would be in either a spin-off, sequel or prequel, but the likelihood of that is very remote. For now though, we'll have to enjoy the three seasons we've been given and look out for the next teen dramas dropping on Netflix! How do you feel seeing Eva Lasting return for a fourth season? What did you think of the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Has Tires been renewed for Season 3? Here's what we know:
Renewed or Cancelled? Tires is a new workplace comedy series set at an auto repair shop. It's very easy to binge-watch, and if you vibed with the humour in season 1, you'll feel the same way about this extended follow-up. If you've watched all the episodes in both seasons, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here's what we know: What is Tires about? Tires revolves around the employees of an auto repair shop which is in danger of going out of business. The shop's manager, Will, does his best to revive its flagging fortunes but his best efforts are often undone by his employee (and cousin) Shane who prefers larking around to doing any actual real work. Season 2 though, includes more small-business, small-town shenanigans, with a mandatory HR meeting going to hell, the hunt for a new manager and a relaunch party includes some pretty surprising We have extensive coverage of Tires across the site, including reviews for both seasons, which you can find HERE! Will there be a Tires Season 3? At the time of writing, Tires has not been renewed for season 3. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Tires has had a decent reaction from critics and audiences alike, with many commenting that the show is an easy binge-watch, has some good characters and the story is simple enough to slip into. Given the way this show is set up, we're predicting that this will be renewed for a third season. The series has plenty of potential and we do know its been a big hit with the streamers. Netflix are generally more lenient on their comedy offerings, and we'd imagine that Tires will follow suit. However, we could be completely wrong, given Netflix do tend to cancel a lot of their series, so take our prediction with a pinch of salt! What we know about Season 3 so far: Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point as Netflix haven't officially renewed this one. Should it be renewed, we'd imagine the antics over at the shop to continue, with plenty more character drama and crass humour to boot. If this series is renewed, we'd expect it to be green-lit with another 12 episode order, with a lot of the old cast returning too. Do you want to see Tires return for a third season?
