Conservatives are mocking former FBI Director James Comey over a post he made on his Substack on Sunday in which he discussed his admiration for pop superstar Taylor Swift. The post features a video of Comey calling Swift 'a truly inspirational public figure' and noting her recent appearance on NFL stars' Jason and Travis Kelce's podcast 'New Heights.' 'Taylor Swift and I go way back. I went to my first concert of hers 15 years ago. I've been to a second and I have helped financially support the attendance of a lot of family members and others. I'm in a family's Swiftie group chat. I know all her music, and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass,' Comey said in the video. In response to Comey's video, conservative personality Benny Johnson said that 'A new James Comey hostage video just dropped.' 'This time he calls himself a 'Swiftie' and says Taylor Swift helps him cope with Donald Trump. You really can't make this up,' Johnson added in a Sunday post on the social platform X. In the Comey video, the former FBI director also states that 'we need to stand up to jerks and defend what matters, but I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them, which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift.' 'She's made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is, and last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him,' Comey added. 'Of course, we're now living with the consequences of that mistake, but while our elderly makeup- covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he can't stand her, what's she doing? Living her best life.' Conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza also said on X Sunday that Comey was attempting 'now to come across as a normal guy, a Taylor Swift fan, and a champion of civility and decorum' in the wake of 'using his power for years to entrap Trump, Flynn and others.' The Hill has reached out to a representative for Comey and the White House for comment. Comey was fired as FBI director by Trump during his first term, and the two have feuded for years. Earlier this year, Comey made waves when he posted an image of shells on a seashore spelling out '86 47.' He deleted the post after criticism, saying he did not recognize it as something that could be seen as promoting violence toward the president. Comey's daughter, Maureen Comey, was fired in July from her job as a prosecutor for the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). The firing was largely seen as politically motivated given Trump's feelings for Comey and his desire for loyalists throughout his administration.

Former FBI Director James Comey confessed in a strange video Sunday that Taylor Swift has been his family's soundtrack — and a source of life advice on handling bullies. He also took swipes at President Donald Trump while bragging about a family "Swiftie" group chat and talking about how he blasts "Tay Tay" while mowing the lawn. Comey opened by accusing Trump of humiliating America alongside Vladimir Putin, calling it "a bad dream you can't wake up from." Comey said he's been to two Swift concerts and even helped relatives afford tickets. "I'm in a family's Switie group chat. I know all her music and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass," Comey said. His favorites? The 10-minute "All Too Well" and "Exile" with Bon Iver. "Taylor Swift has grown up with my family and provided us a soundtrack, really, as we've grown ourselves and learned and adapted and dealt with adversity and celebration," he said, adding that millions of families likely feel the same. Comey explained that at every stage of Swift's career, she has shown a way that resonated with kids, which also felt right to him as a parent, and she has continued to do that even as an adult artist. Comey said Swift's example helps him resist "bullies" without becoming like them. He contrasted that with satirical posts mocking Trump, which he called funny but also troubling. "But I gotta be honest, it also leaves me with a strange feeling at times, because I don't want us to become like Trump and his followers," he continued. "There are far more decent, honest, kind people in America than there are mean jerks. And don't get me wrong, we have our jerks, millions of them." He accused the GOP of "stunning coarseness," while saying it's a minority view in America. "I am not an advocate for weakness. Of course, we need to stand up to jerks and defend what matters, but I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them, which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift," he said. "She's made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is. Last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him. During the concert, he said, Swift sang a song, asking nasty people, "why you gotta be so mean." "I bet you got pushed around. Somebody made you cold. But the cycle ends right now, because you can't leave me down that road," Comey said, reciting Swift's lyrics for 'Mean.' "You'll be glad I didn't sing that. That's right, because down that road of unhappiness, nobody should have that power over us." The video went viral, with one user calling it "the creepiest video in the history of social media" and another writing, "It's truly mind-blowing this man served as FBI director." Billy Joel to close Long Island motorcycle shop, auction off collection due to brain disorder diagnosis
Billy Joel is closing his motorcycle shop in Long Island, New York, and auctioning off his personal collection of bikes as he battles a brain disorder. The 76-year-old singer revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which affects his vision, hearing and balance, he said on social media at the time. Joel also canceled all of his tour dates for 2025 and through July 2026. Earlier this week, Joel's representative Claire Mercuri told The Associated Press that the music icon will be shuttering 20th Century Cycles in Oyster Bay in late September and selling his collection at auction later this year due to his medical issue. Joel, who grew up in nearby Hicksville, opened 20th Century Cycles in late 2010 as a place to maintain and repair his motorcycles, restore and customize ones he bought and showcase his collection for the public at no charge. The "Piano Man" hitmaker said he also wanted to bring foot traffic and business to downtown Oyster Bay — a ritzy waterfront community about 25 miles east of midtown Manhattan — where part of the street that includes 20th Century Cycles was renamed Billy Joel Way in 2023. "I've been living in this community for a long time," Joel said in the video. "I actually grew up not far from here. And I'd like to get a little interest going into the town and the village." Joel's nearby home in Centre Island is listed for $29.9 million, and he has been living in South Florida, while keeping a home in Sag Harbor on Long Island. Joel noted that one of his most valuable bikes was a 1952 Vincent Rapide, which can sell for tens of thousands of dollars and sometimes more, according to auction sites. Joel's enthusiasm for motorcycles dates back decades. In 1982, he was riding a motorcycle on Long Island when he was struck by a car that ran a red light, injuring his left thumb and dislocating his right wrist. He spent about a month in the hospital. The singer has also ridden motorcycles during various benefits for 9/11 first responders, breast cancer and other causes over the years. A date for the auction of his collection has not been set.
