Soccer-Giroud excited to join Lille after LAFC exit
(Reuters) -French striker Olivier Giroud is set to join Ligue 1 side Lille after leaving Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC.
The 38-year-old, who is France's all-time top scorer with 57 goals, played for Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan before joining LAFC last year and helped them win their first Open Cup title with a goal in the final in September.
LAFC announced Giroud's departure last week, midway through the MLS season.
"I think this club (Lille) ticks a lot of boxes for me and my family," Giroud, who has retired from international football, told reporters on Sunday after playing his last match for LAFC, a 1-0 league loss to Vancouver Whitecaps.
"I am excited because we will also play (in the) Europa League, and it's very positive. It's a big club in France, Lille. Top five."

Doan hits double on debut as Frankfurt cruise in German Cup
FRANKFURT, Germany: Japan winger Ritsu Doan scored twice on his debut as Eintracht Frankfurt thumped fifth-tier Engers 5-0 in the first round of the German Cup on Sunday. Doan, who joined Frankfurt from Bundesliga rivals Freiburg in the summer, scored in each half. The Japan international scored Frankfurt's second in first-half stoppage time, collecting the ball on the run and scoring past the goalkeeper in one motion. Doan got his second on 54 minutes, cutting in on his left foot to put Frankfurt 3-0 up. Jean-Matteo Bahoya, Elye Wahi and Paxten Aaronson also scored for the five-time German Cup winners. Long-time captain and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was left out of the match-day squad "due to discussions with another club," Frankfurt said on social media. PSG get Ligue 1 title defence off to winning start
NANTES: Paris Saint-Germain got their defence of the Ligue 1 title off to a winning start on Sunday as Vitinha's deflected strike proved enough to earn the European champions a 1-0 victory away to Nantes. The Portuguese midfielder's effort midway through the second half beat goalkeeper Anthony Lopes with the aid of a wicked deflection off Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem to break the deadlock. PSG were made to work hard for their victory as coach Luis Enrique made seven changes to his starting line-up following the UEFA Super Cup win on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur in midweek. That was the first game of the new campaign for last season's Champions League winners, who only began pre-season training on August 6 having gone all the way to the Club World Cup final in the United States in mid-July. They did not play any friendly matches prior to that and are therefore likely to require several weeks before getting close to the level at which they performed last season. However, they still had enough against a hard-working but punchless Nantes side, playing a first competitive match under new Portuguese coach Luis Castro. "I am very happy because the first objective in these matches is the victory and I think we deserved the three points," Luis Enrique said. "We were in control throughout, playing away from home.
