Khamenei: Nuclear Talks with U.S. Will Not Lead to an Agreement - Jordan News

Jordan News20-05-2025

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed skepticism on Tuesday regarding the outcome of ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States, stating bluntly that the talks are unlikely to yield any results. اضافة اعلان In a speech commemorating the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Khamenei was quoted by Tasnim News Agency as saying: 'I do not believe the nuclear talks with the United States will lead to an agreement. I don't know.' He added a pointed message to Washington, saying: 'Since we are speaking of negotiations, let me remind the other side: the American side, which is engaged in these indirect talks, should negotiate seriously and avoid speaking nonsense.' Khamenei strongly rejected U.S. and Western objections to Iran's uranium enrichment program, declaring: 'Saying that Iran will not be allowed to enrich uranium is a grave mistake. No one waits for permission to act. Iran has its own policies and follows its own path.' He hinted that he would further elaborate on Iran's stance in the future: 'At another time, I will explain to the Iranian people why we insist on enrichment and why Western and American parties are so adamantly opposed to it. I will lay this out, God willing, so that the Iranian people understand the other side's intentions.' His comments come as Noor News reported earlier on Tuesday that Iran has received a proposal to hold a fifth round of nuclear talks with the United States and is currently reviewing it, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.
These developments reflect deep-seated mistrust and a lack of optimism in Tehran, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reviving the stalled nuclear agreement.

Return of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Syria After 13 Years of Interruption - Jordan News

Return of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Syria After 13 Years of Interruption The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad, and the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrett, inaugurated the residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Damascus, marking the official return of the U.S. diplomatic mission to the country after 13 years of interruption. اضافة اعلان The American flag was raised inside the residence in the presence of representatives from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Embassy, as well as several diplomats and journalists. This step is considered a practical indication of the development of Syrian-American relations following the new phase the country is witnessing. The United States had closed its embassy in Damascus in February 2012 due to the outbreak of the Syrian crisis. Since then, U.S. representation in Syria was limited to indirect functions through neighboring countries. The opening of the ambassador's residence represents a preparatory step toward the return of the U.S. ambassador to carry out his duties from inside Syria, in the context of the diplomatic thaw following the formation of the new government headed by Ahmad Shara. A series of international measures have also begun to lift the isolation of Damascus and reintegrate it into the regional and international political arena. — SANA

Erdogan Calls on Russia and Ukraine to Resume Dialogue - Jordan News

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday urged Russia and Ukraine not to "close the door" on dialogue, expressing hope for the resumption of talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul on Monday. اضافة اعلان Speaking to reporters upon his return from a visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday, Erdogan said, according to the Turkish presidency: "We are in contact with Russia and Ukraine... We tell them that the door should not be closed as long as it remains open." He added, "In every meeting, we remind our interlocutors not to miss this opportunity," considering that "putting out this large fire in our region is a humanitarian duty." On Wednesday, Ukraine expressed readiness to hold new talks in Turkey on Monday following direct negotiations held on May 16 between Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul. However, Ukraine requested that Moscow, which initiated the talks, present its conditions in advance to ensure the meeting yields results. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, traveled to Ukraine on Thursday, where he is scheduled to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky. Turkey, a NATO member, has managed to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Turkey supplied drones to Kyiv while refraining from joining Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.

Iran Arrests Dozens Following Nationwide Truck Drivers' Strike - Jordan News

Iranian media reported that security forces have arrested several individuals linked to a nationwide strike by truck drivers. Tasnim News Agency stated that the Intelligence Organization of the Revolutionary Guard detained several people in the industrial province of Khuzestan in southwestern Iran. These individuals are alleged to have taken photos and videos of protests at a cargo station and shared them with opposition broadcast networks. اضافة اعلان The truck drivers began their strike about a week ago, protesting against rising prices of spare parts, fuel, excessive insurance premiums, and falling freight rates. Labor unions also reported the arrest of many drivers in Kermanshah province. The strike has now spread to more than 130 cities across the country. Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate currently imprisoned in Tehran, expressed solidarity with the strikers. Iran is suffering from a severe economic crisis due to harsh international sanctions and poor management. Recently, major cities have experienced increased power outages. The country has witnessed several waves of protests in recent years, each met with violent and harsh security crackdowns. Meanwhile, the government is currently negotiating a new nuclear agreement with the United States. Former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with military force if no agreement is reached.
