WNBA Makes Major Announcement About Wings' Paige Bueckers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Dallas Wings changed everything about the future of their franchise when they landed former UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Just like Caitlin Clark heading to the Indiana Fever the year before, Bueckers was a clear-cut superstar before even beginning her WNBA career. She has not failed to live up to the hype during her rookie season. Bueckers has been a dominant force all season long for the Wings. While the team has not won a lot of games, they have a true cornerstone piece to build around moving forward. She will help get Dallas back on track in the near future. Paige Bueckers #5 of the Dallas Wings calls a play against the Atlanta Dream during the first half at College Park Center on July 30, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. Perhaps they will have a star duo to build around starting next season. In their post, the league announced that Bueckers has been named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for the month of July. "Paige Bueckers of the @DallasWings is your @Kia Rookie of the Month AGAIN," the post read. "Bueckers went off for 18.2 PPG, 3.2 RPG, and 5.2 APG in the month of July to earn her 2nd consecutive ROTM honors." Throughout the course of the entire season, Bueckers has played in 23 games. She has averaged 18.5 points per game to go along with 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals, while also shooting 45.4 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from three-point range. As a comparison, Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in 40 appearances as a rookie and shot 41.7 percent overall and 34.4 percent from three-point range. Bueckers still has plenty of room to continue growing and developing her game, which is a scary thought for the rest of the league. After such a strong showing in the month of July, the announcement was just a formality. Everyone knew that Bueckers was going to win the Rookie of the Month award. Before too long, she will also be crowned as the WNBA Rookie of the Year barring a wild turn of events. Make sure to follow Newsweek Sports for all Dallas Wings and WNBA news and updates.

Minnesota Lynx's Cheryl Reeve named WNBA's best coach in July
The Minnesota Lynx are atop the WNBA standings by several games, and the woman in charge of the whole operation is getting her dues. The WNBA announced Monday that Cheryl Reeve is the league's Coach of the Month for July. The Lynx went 9-3 in July, capping the month with a 100-93 win over the New York Liberty, the WNBA's No. 2 team, in their first matchup since last year's finals. Minnesota averaged 87.8 points a game last month and allowed 78.5 points per game on defense — if maintained over a full season, both would top every other team in the league. Reeve is also coaching the league's leading MVP candidate, Napheesa Collier, to a career year. In July, Collier averaged 23.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.9 blocks a night. The superstar left Saturday's 53-point win over the Las Vegas Aces with an ankle injury, but Reeve said it's too soon to tell how severely she's hurt. Reeve, who also serves as the team's president of basketball operations, was named both Coach and Basketball Executive of the Year last season. The Lynx are 24-5 as of Monday.
