Emergency mock drill at airport to evaluate preparedness, response coordination

The simulated situation involved the detection of smoke in the cockpit of a dummy incoming aircraft. Upon receiving this information, the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) was immediately activated and alerts were disseminated to all relevant stakeholders.
Multiple emergency centres were swiftly established to manage the incident. These included an emergency control centre, emergency operations centre, emergency control room, survivors reception centre, crew reception centre, friends and relatives reception centre, reunion area, rendezvous point and a dedicated media centre.
A passenger coach was stationed to simulate the aircraft, ensuring realism in the response efforts.
Following the alert, firefighting units from the Indian Air Force (IAF) Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services, along with fire brigades from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) responded immediately to the scene.
The simulated flames were extinguished efficiently and rescue operations were carried out to evacuate dummy passengers.
Medical teams from the Airport Health Organization (APHO), district medical services and local hospitals administered first aid on-site and transported the "injured" to designated hospitals. Simulated survivors were guided to the appropriate reception centres for further care and support.

Mumbai: An Air India flight flying in from Kochi had a close shave while landing in Mumbai on Monday morning after it veered off the rain-soaked runway. All passengers aboard the aircraft are safe, airport authorities said. Visuals showed the nacelle of the right engine -- the housing that surrounds the engine -- damaged, evidently having made contact during what is called a runway excursion. The damage to the nacelle means a part of the engine had an impact with the tarmac or the soft side of the runway. According to Air India, the aircraft has been grounded for checks, and the inspection is underway. The two pilots have been derostered pending an inquiry into what led to the scare. This incident comes at a time when the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation is closely looking at safety protocols for passenger flights in the aftermath of the AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad last month that claimed over 250 lives.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct a large-scale military exercise in Rajasthan from July 23 to 25, along the India-Pakistan border. Four helicopter accidents during Char Dham Yatra this year: Govt
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Six helicopter accidents have happened during the Char Dham Yatra in the last five years, with four of the accidents this year till June, according to official data. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Monday said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated additional surveillance and safety audits of helicopter operations for the Char Dham Yatra. There were one accident each in 2022 and 2023 while there were no accidents in 2021 and 2024 during Char Dham Yatra. However, this year till June, there have been four helicopter accidents, as per the data shared by the minister. All the four crashes that happened this year are being probed by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). DGCA has also directed all the stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety norms for the Char Dham Yatra focusing on access control, improving parking arrangements, regulating slot allocations, enhancing pilot training, and ensuring strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the minister said. In the helicopter crash on May 8, six people were killed and AAIB's preliminary report found that the main rotor blade of the chopper struck an overhead fibre cable, before tumbling down the hillside and coming to rest against a tree.
