Liverpool players join family of Diogo Jota and his brother for the funeral held in Portugal
Club captain Virgil Van Dijk, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and manager Arne Slot were among Liverpool teammates past and present who attended the service in Gondomar for the striker and his brother, André Silva.
The English Premier League stars carried two floral tributes in the club's red colour into the chapel, each in the shape of a shirt.
The one carried by Van Dijk had the number 20 – which Jota wore on his Liverpool shirt – written in white flowers.
The other, carried by teammate Andrew Robertson, bore the number 30, which was worn by Jota's brother, who played for FC Peñafiel in Portugal's second division.

Dressed in black and with their heads bowed, the teammates entered the church in silence. The only sound was the applause from the crowd outside.

How amateur sport is making it to the big leagues in China
It was not quite the American Super Bowl but it was a big moment nonetheless. In the middle of last month, as two amateur football teams from two small cities in eastern China took to the field, a fleet of light aircraft flew over the stadium. The fly-past at the Yangzhou Sports Park Stadium was testament to the popularity of the competition the two teams were playing in, the Jiangsu City Football League – also known as the Su Super League. The league, which is in its first season, pits 13 teams of amateurs from various cities in Jiangsu province against each other in six home and six away matches, with the top eight teams on points entering the knockout stage starting in October. The players on the teams are diverse, with everyone from teens to farmers and middle-aged weekend warriors lining up for the matches. Since the league's first game in May, millions of viewers have tuned in online and tens of thousands of fans have gone to stadiums, attracted by the local nature of the event. So much so that fans petitioned the military's Eastern Theatre Command to send fighter jets over the stadium for the final in November.

Liverpool to honour Diogo Jota as Portugal PM joins family at footballer's hometown wake
Portugal's Prime Minister Luis Montenegro joined members of Diogo Jota's family for a private wake on Friday in the Liverpool footballer's hometown in northern Portugal following his death alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain. Jota's long-time agent, Jorge Mendes, was also seen joining the family, including wife Rute Cardoso, who had married the footballer just weeks earlier. Montenegro spent almost half an hour with the family before leaving without making a statement. Jota's club remain focused on responding to the tragedy and said the forward would be 'honoured with the respect and affection he so richly deserves'. Liverpool's past and present sporting directors, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, said in a joint statement that tributes would be 'meaningful and inclusive of supporters'. A convoy of hearses carrying the bodies left for Gondomar near Porto on Thursday evening from the morgue of Puebla de Sanabria, near where the Lamborghini in which the brothers were travelling had veered off the road and burst into flames after midnight on Thursday.
