X-Ray Results Are In For WNBA Star Breanna Stewart
X-Ray Results Are In For WNBA Star Breanna Stewart originally appeared on The Spun. Saturday's game was worrisome for the New York Liberty and their fans after seven-time All-Star Breanna Stewart exited with what appeared to a lower leg injury in the first quarter of the team's 101-99 loss to the LA Sparks. It wasn't clear in the moment what caused to the two-time MVP to be in pain but whatever it was it was enough for Stewart to motion towards the bench to get her out of the game and she never returned. The Liberty just got Jonquel Jones back so having Stewie out of the lineup would be a massive loss for the reigning WNBA champs. Stewart has barely missed any time since coming to Brooklyn. But she did tear her Achilles back in 2019 before having to undergo a touch-up operation a few seasons later. The New York Post's Madeline Kenney had a positive update on Sunday though, with the result of Stewart's recent X-rays: "Breanna Stewart had imaging done on her right leg which showed she avoided significant injury after exiting last night's game," Kenney reported. "She'll be with the Liberty on this four-game road trip, but the team plans to give her time to fully recover." Hopefully Breanna is able to make a full and quick recovery and doesn't miss too much time with a grueling 12-game stretch coming up. The Liberty finish out the month with games against Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx on Monday and Wednesday after posting an Eastern Conference leading 17-7 record to this point.X-Ray Results Are In For WNBA Star Breanna Stewart first appeared on The Spun on Jul 27, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 27, 2025, where it first appeared.

Chapman leaves with injury, teammates step up as Red Sox take series from Dodgers
Chapman leaves with injury, teammates step up as Red Sox take series from Dodgers originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Aroldis Chapman, the Boston Red Sox' All-Star closer, left Sunday's game with an injury, but his teammates stepped up to help close out the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 to take the weekend series from the reigning World Series champions. The Sox won the series 2-1, with Jordan Hicks closing out the game after Chapman was forced to leave. Hicks got a huge assist from second baseman Ceddanne Rafaela, who had an unassisted double play to end the 8th inning. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after the game that Chapman had a tight back but should be OK and shouldn't require a stay on the injured list. His velocity was down Sunday and he walked two of the three batters he faced before he was pulled. 'We saw it right away, and the stuff was way down,' Cora said. 'Just a little spasm that I felt yesterday,' Chapman said through a translator after the game. 'Just felt a little uncomfortable today, but nothing big. I just hope that in the next couple days I'll be able to get back out there.' Hicks is expected to fill in as the closer if Chapman needs to miss any time. Cora said Chapman wanted to face Teoscar Hernandez before he was pulled, but the team didn't want to risk further injury. The Sox manager also praised Rafaela's defense, and in particular that huge 8th inning double play. 'His instincts are off the chart,' he said. 'It's a joy watching him play defense. At center, second, at short, it doesn't matter, he is that good.' Star rookie Roman Anthony was also injured Sunday when he was hit by a pitch on the foot, but he stayed in the game and later legged out a triple and ultimately scored on Alex Bregman's 2- run homer. 'It was getting tighter, but he grinded through it,' Cora said. 'That's what big leaguers do.' The Red Sox are now 57-50 on the season and 9-1 in their last 10 games at home. They will not travel to Minnesota for a three game series against the Twins.

Breanna Stewart reportedly avoided significant leg injury, will travel with Liberty on upcoming road trip
There appears to be reason for relief in New York. Liberty All-Star Breanna Stewart reportedly avoided a significant lower-leg injury after leaving early during Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. That's according to Madeline Kenney of the New York Post, who reported Sunday that imaging revealed the absence of a significant injury. The nature of Stewart's injury is unclear from the report. But the news is certainly welcome in New York as the Liberty seek to repeat as WNBA champions. Per the report, Stewart will travel with the team for New York's upcoming four-game road trip that features a potential WNBA Finals preview against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Stewart's status for that matchup on Wednesday is far from certain. Per Kenney, the Liberty plan "to give her time to fully recover." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Whether she's back on the court for the road trip or later, the report indicates that Stewart will be back in time for the stretch run of the season, which concludes on Sept. 11. Scary moment after apparent non-contact injury Stewart pulled up in the opening minutes of Saturday's game and asked to be taken out with what appeared to be a non-contact injury. She did not return to the game and was eventually ruled out at halftime. Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello told reporters after the game that there was no update on Stewart's status. "Hopefully she'll be OK," Brondello said in her postgame news conference. Saturday's 101-99 loss to the Sparks on Saturday was the Liberty's first in six games to drop them to 17-7. They remain comfortably in first place in the Eastern Conference, three games ahead of the second-place Atlanta Dream (14-10). The Lynx maintain the best record in the WNBA (22-4), four games ahead of the Liberty in the race for home-court advantage in a potential Finals matchup. Stewart, a seven-time All-WNBA selection and two-time MVP, is key to New York's hopes of maintaining its edge in the East and repeating as WNBA champion.
