12 'notable' quarterbacks in the 2025 Manning Passing Academy
This summer, in its annual fashion, the Manning Passing Academy will provide a unique opportunity for college quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends to continue developing their skill sets ahead of the 2025 season. However, as we all know, the quarterbacks attending receive the most coverage on a yearly basis.
With the event set for June 26-29, the Manning family, led by Archie, Peyton, Eli, and Cooper own and operate the camp at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and for those unaware of the camp's background and overall function, it's not just for quarterbacks to work on their basic fundamentals.
"The Manning's are always the first to arrive and the last to leave. The concept of this camp sprang from the concern that even the most basic fundamental skills of throwing and catching a football were lacking during a youngster's developmental years (grades 8 - 12)."
"It was this concern that motivated the Manning's to bring together some of the most successful and brightest coaches and players from the professional, college, and high school ranks each summer in Louisiana. And although the Manning name has been practically synonymous with the quarterback position for almost 60 years ...it's not just for QBs."
For this article, however, we're focusing on "notable" quarterbacks participating in this year's event, led by several names that are early Heisman Trophy favorites. According to USATOP100, the following are the most notable quarterbacks participating in the 2025 Manning Passing Academy, including eight quarterbacks from the SEC.
For Texas A&M, starting quarterback Marcel Reed has been working diligently this offseason to improve his pocket passing skills, and his participation in the Academy this summer is another step toward becoming a complete quarterback for the Aggies in 2025.

Oklahoma QB John Mateer named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list
The buzz surrounding the Oklahoma Sooners' new starting quarterback, John Mateer. He's been included on a number of watch lists this offseason and is a dark horse candidate to contend for the Heisman Trophy. On Wednesday, Mateer was included on another watch list, this time for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award goes to the offensive player of the year who played his high school or college football in the state of Texas or was born in Texas. Oklahoma Sooners quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray won the awards in back-to-back seasons during their Heisman runs in 2017 and 2018. The two were standout quarterbacks in Texas high school football and started their careers at universities in the state of Texas before transferring to Oklahoma. Mateer could be on a similar path with the Sooners in 2025. Though there are more unknowns on the offensive side of the ball than there were when OU entered the 2017 or 2018 seasons, Mateer could very well be the answer to a lot of the questions with his dual-threat ability. The former three-star quarterback has been lauded for his ability to make plays when things break down and for his competitive drive. And if he's able to translate that to Oklahoma and the SEC, Mateer could end the season in the running for a number of postseason awards. Bears QB Tyson Bagent emotional over 'gift I've been blessed with'
The Chicago Bears became one of the few franchises in the NFL to extend their backup quarterback when they agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with Tyson Bagent. The 25-year-old quarterback started four games for the Bears in 2023 and appeared in four games last season. Bagent was set to enter the final year of his contract this season and this extension will keep him with the Bears through 2027. The former Shepherd University star was emotional talking about what it meant to sign this deal. "A lot of people don't know this but my dad, he is my right hand man and he didn't have running water until he was in high school," Bagent told media after signing his deal. "So there's definitely a lot of things and people that I think I could certainly help with this gift I've been blessed with. "Little things like that, I don't really know anybody back home with any money. It feels good, it's certainly a weight off my shoulders and my family's shoulders. It definitely means a lot." The West Virginia native earned the Harlon Hill Trophy, Division II college football's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, in 2021 at Shepherd. He set Division II records for career passing yards with 17,034 and touchdown passes with 159. He's played well in the preseason for the Bears this year, especially in Chicago's win over Buffalo. Bagent completed 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards and touchdown. This deal makes him the seventh-highest paid backup quarterback by average annual value (AAV) in the NFL. Only Anthony Richardson Sr., Marcus Mariota, Jacoby Brissett, Zach Wilson, Jarrett Stidham, and Tyrod Taylor rank ahead of him. Bagent will likely be back in action for the Bears' preseason finale on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, Aug. 22.

Keldric Faulk and Cam Coleman named to All-SEC First Team
A pair of Auburn Tigers received spots on the All-SEC Preseason First Team this week. Wide receiver Cam Coleman and defensive lineman Keldric Faulk were both named to the 29-man squad by coaches in the conference. It is the first time either Tiger has been named to the preseason First Team in their respective careers. Heading into just his second season on the Plains, sophomore wide receiver Cam Coleman joined fellow second-year pass catcher Ryan Williams (Alabama) on the All-SEC First Team. Coleman had a see-saw start to his college career due in large part to injuries and a carousel, which essentially operated as a ring of fire, at the quarterback position, but found enough balance to finish his inaugural college football season strong with over 300 yards and 5 touchdowns in his final three games. The former five-star recruit ended his freshman campaign with 37 receptions, 598 yards, and a team-high 8 receiving touchdowns. A native of Phenix City, Alabama, Coleman is still just 19 years old heading into a season in which he has a chance to play himself into the Heisman Trophy conversation. Keldric Faulk opens his junior season after an absurd accession into stardom during his sophomore campaign. Faulk was a beacon of ferocious, flashing, light in an otherwise cloudy season for Auburn a year ago. Sharing the title of best pass rusher on the team with senior Jalen McLeod, Faulk turned in 45 tackles, 7 sacks, and 11 tackles for loss. The Highland Home, Alabama native took up residence in the opponent's backfield weekly, earning standout performances against Georgia (2 sacks), Alabama (2 TFL and forced fumble), and Kentucky, when he won SEC Defensive Lineman of the wood. Auburn was one of six programs in the conference to receive multiple recognitions on the All-SEC First Team. Georgia (9) led the way with Texas (3) and LSU (3) finishing ahead of Auburn (2), Florida (2) and Alabama (2).
