Man who was ‘fixated' with Anna Friel ordered not to contact her before sentence
Appleton, of Windsor in Berkshire, pleaded guilty to a stalking offence under Section 2A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 earlier this week.
He was due to be sentenced on Thursday but judge Alan Blake adjourned the hearing until September 18 for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
The court heard that a psychiatrist had diagnosed Appleton with bipolar disorder and erotomania, where a person believes that someone else is in love with them.
The psychiatrist said that Appleton had a 'fixation' with Friel and was trying to determine whether this was still the case, the court heard.
The defendant, who the court heard has been in custody for six months and has spent time in a mental health facility, was granted conditional bail.
Appleton must not contact Friel or enter the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and is to co-operate with those conducting the pre-sentence report.
A website under his name appears to suggest that he is an actor and retired pilot.
Friel, 49, rose to fame with her role as Beth Jordache in Channel 4 soap opera Brookside.
She achieved international renown in 2007 starring as Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles in ABC comedy series Pushing Daisies.
In 2017, she won the International Emmy for Best Actress for her role as the title character in the ITV and Netflix mystery drama series Marcella.

Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins axes ex army corporal for 'lying and cheating' on the show - resulting in an explosive row
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has claimed two more high-profile departures, with one contestant dramatically thrown off the show for 'lying and cheating' while another walked away in agony. The brutal Channel 4 challenge has already seen a string of early exits, including S Club's Hannah Spearritt, TV personality Louie Spence, and Love Islanders Chloe Burrows and Tasha Ghouri - and Wednesday's episode delivered even more shocks. The fourth episode's theme focused on trust and integrity, but tensions exploded as former Traitors winner Harry Clark, 24, was booted from the course by furious staff after being caught cutting corners. Harry – whose skills in deception helped him scoop the Traitors crown – found his tactics backfired when his Celebrity SAS teammates branded him one of the least trustworthy recruits. Alongside Rebecca Loos, he was put in charge of a team for a gruelling race involving hauling a heavy dinghy. But as ex-Special Forces instructors Mark 'Billy' Billingham, Jason 'Foxy' Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver watched on, Harry appeared to avoid his share of the workload. His lack of effort left former football hardman Adebayo 'The Beast' Akinfenwa taking on the bulk of the weight – triggering a flare-up of his long-term knee injury. In pain and out of energy, Adebayo had no choice but to withdraw from the show entirely. Earlier in the show Jason Fox could be heard saying: 'If we get an indication that a recruit isn't pulling their weight, we will find out' so when back at camp, Harry was hauled in for a no-nonsense grilling. When confronted over failing to complete an earlier set of burpees, the staff accused him of lying straight to their faces. 'Are you f***ing trying to pull the wool over my eyes?!' Chris raged, before adding the star was treating him 'like an idiot'. Moments later, the ex army corporal was marched out in front of the rest of the recruits, and admitted that he had 'cut corners' and not completed all the burpees. Mark then shouted: 'No, you lied, you cut corners, I asked you three times about honesty and integrity, and what did you do?' Harry replied: 'I lied, staff.' Earlier in the episode, Harry joked to the other celebrities how he couldn't grow facial hair. Talking about the fact they had not looked at themselves in the mirror in nearly a week he said: 'Do you know what I just deeped yeah? We haven't looked at ourselves in the mirror in like four days'. 'I haven't had facial hair since I was like 16. I'm clean shaven every day but do you know what's nice? I have like a proper Italian moustache.' With Harry and Adebayo 'The Beast' Akinfenwa gone, just eight stars remain on the show, with the next episode set to air this Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4. Last year, John Barrowman quit SAS after just 32 minutes into filming. He dubbed the 'worst recruit' in the show's history after he told Directing Staff 'I'm done'. He then added: 'I just... it's not for me, I know who I am and what I'm about, it's not for me' following his arrival on set.

Celebrity SAS viewers slam lying recruit kicked out for 'cutting corners'
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins viewers have slammed a recruit after he was told his 'integrity and honesty stinks'. Last month the Channel 4 reality show returned to screens – welcoming 14 new famous faces who are put through their paces to try and achieve SAS selection. This year's line-up has included S Club's Hannah Spearritt, X Factor's Lucy Spraggan, Love Island stars Tasha Ghouri, Chloe Burrows and Adam Collar, Drag Race's Bimini and The Traitors winner Harry Clark. Along the way several have voluntarily withdrawn, but on tonight's episode Harry left both the Directing Staff and viewers enraged after he was caught 'cutting corners' and lying. During a challenge the group were tasked with doing 20 burpees, however it was quickly noticed that Harry had only bothered to do half. So far on the show the former British Army engineer, who left the forces two months before filming on SAS began, had only passed one challenge. When being interrogated at the end of the episode the 24-year-old was called out for his shady actions by Chief Instructor Billy Billingham and Foxy (Jason Fox). The pair had been going through the day's events, when it was raised that Harry had failed in leading his team. They went on to say he was 'bluffing' things and had also lied about doing the burpees required of him. 'His integrity and honesty stinks to a point of it being unacceptable,' Billy declared. Harry was then hauled in to meet with the DS after they reviewed footage that proved he'd not completed the exercise task. He was then asked about being a team player and if he 'cut corners', claims he denied. The DS then made him watch the footage himself and count out the number of burpees he'd done in total. The reality star then claimed he'd stopped early because he was 'slow and letting his team down' – a response that enraged Foxy. 'Are you trying to pull the wool over my eyes? I asked you to do 20. You've just sat there as an ex-military man and spoken about honesty, integrity and how you do your best and don't cut corners. Do you think I'm an idiot,' he said. Slamming the table and making Harry flinch, Foxy told Harry to be honest, before he and Billy called in the guard. Harry was then made to stand in front of his fellow recruits and admit his deception, before he was ordered to hand in his armband and was kicked off the show. Soon after, many viewers weighed in on what had unfolded. 'That is a humiliating way for Harry to leave. Making him count when both he and they know he'd cheated was a masterstroke,' Charlotte posted on X. Adebayo 'The Beast' Akinfenwa- footballer Troy Deeney- footballer Conor Benn- boxer Louie Spence- reality star Tasha Ghouri- Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing star Harry Clark- The Traitors winner Hannah Spearritt Rebecca Loos- former glamour model Chloe Burrows- Love Island star Bimini- Drag Race star Michaella McCollum- author Lady Leshurr- rapper Lucy Spraggan – X Factor star Adam Collard- Love Island star 'So, Harry got his programmes mixed up…Traitors you lie to win…SAS not so much,' Katie quipped. 'Ironic, the very skill that won Harry the whole game on The Traitors was his entire downfall on SAS,' Kirsty shared. 'Harry is unbelievable – still trying to cover his tracks even after being found out! Thought Billy and Chris were going to explode!' Angela added. Others called it 'harsh but fair' to boot him. Seemingly not concerned about what he'd been caught doing, on Monday Harry posted a video of himself exercising on Instagram, writing: 'Practicing my burpees because apparently I can't do them.' Speaking ahead of the show premiering, Harry said he signed up to 'test' himself'. However, when asked to sum up his experience on the show, he explained: 'It was confusing because the course broke me physically and mentally. But that was actually the kick I needed and the experience I needed at that time. More Trending 'It was definitely a growing point for me. That's what I've matured from, what's taught me that not everything goes perfectly to plan. 'So yeah, I would say it's confusing because of the amount of emotions I felt. I felt every single emotion you can feel from a TV show, on that course!' After deceiving his way through The Traitors, Harry took home £95,150 in the 2024 season of the BBC game show. Jon's journey to looking for love again has certainly been eventful, with the star recently admitting he was sectioned after battling a secret drug addiction. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jon revealed that he got into crystal meth - a highly addictive 'party' drug that can cause psychosis, hallucination, paranoia and mania. This was when he was in his thirties - long after S Club had gone their separate ways. He explained: "I didn't even recognise myself at that time. "Sometimes, in the midst of one of the psychotic episodes where I'd be smashing my flat up with a hammer, I'd catch sight of myself in the mirror and say: 'What the f***?'. "I'd have a moment of lucidity, thinking: 'I was a successful young man, I had a brilliant career, incredible life. What am I doing?' S Club's Jon Lee reveals he spent £250 a week on crystal meth and trashed flat with a hammer "I'd be standing there, holes in the walls around me, cuts all over my knuckles, my eye swollen from where I'd been punching myself in the head. "I'd shaved my hair too. I didn't look anything like Jon-from-S Club – or what people would expect Jon-from-S Club to look like." One night, six years ago, his neighbours were so concerned they called the police and Jon was taken to a clinic in an ambulance where he was sectioned. "I remember I had to keep the door open, and someone sat outside. I suppose I was a danger to myself, " he recalled.
