Polanco homers twice to help the Mariners rout the Marlins, 14-0
SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Rodriguez and Jorge Polanco led off with back-to-back home runs in the Seattle Mariners' six-run first inning and Polonco connected again in the fourth in a 14-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.
Right-hander Luis Castillo (3-2) allowed just one hit over six innings. He had five strikeouts and walked two.
Rodriguez homered off Connor Gillispie's first pitch, a 417-foot shot that hit foul pole in left. Polanco homered on the third pitch.
After Gillispie (0-3) loaded the bases with just one out, rookie Ben Williamson and Miles Mastrobuoni hit two-run doubles to make it 6-0.
Seattle added another run the second on Luke Raley's sacrifice fly. Gillispie went two innings, allowing seven runs on six hits.
Polanco added his seventh home run of the season in a two-run fourth. Rowdy Tellez was hit by a pitch in the left hand with the bases loaded to make it 10-0.
Williams added an RBI single in the sixth and pinch-hitter Mitch Garver had a two-run home run in the seventh. Mastrobuoni hit an RBI single in the eighth.
Earlier in the day the Mariners placed opening-day starter Logan Gilbert on the 15-day injured list because of strained right elbow flexor. The All-Star right-hander left Friday night's 8-4 loss to Miami after three hitless innings.

It was just the third time in Mariners' history that the team has hit back-to-back homers to start a game.

Murray State pounds Duke 19-9 to force deciding game in Durham Super Regional

(AP) — Dustin Mercer had four hits, Dom Decker and Will Verling drove in four runs apiece and Mercer pounded Duke 19-9 on Sunday to force a deciding third game in the Durham Super Regional. Four players scored three times and two scored twice as the Racers (43-15) scored 10-plus runs for the seventh time in 11 games. Jonathan Hogart, Carson Garner, Dan Tauken and Connor Cunningham had home runs. The deciding game is Monday at Duke's Jack Coombs Field, which was built 94 years ago and is holding its first postseason playoff games. Game Two attendance was 2,689, three less than the record crowd that attended the opener. Duke's last College World Series appearance was in 1961, and Murray State has never made it there. Murray State took a 10-3 lead with a five-run fourth inning. The Blue Devils (40-20) got back in the game with five runs in the sixth, but a nine-run seventh broke it open for the Racers. Decker had a two-run single, Vierling a two-run double and Tauken and Cunningham homered in the seventh. AJ Gracia and Ben Miller had back-to-back solo home runs in the first for Duke and Wallace Clark added another in the third. Ben Rounds had a two-run double in the sixth and Macon Winslow capped the rally with a two-run homer. Rounds added a solo shot in the eighth. Isaac Silva (8-2) went 5 1/3 innings, giving up six runs for Murray State and Graham Kelham gave up a hit and a run over the final three innings for his seventh save. McLain's homer sends Reds past Diamondbacks 4-2 for 3-game sweep
CINCINNATI (AP) — Matt McLain broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-run homer off Zac Gallen, and the Cincinnati Reds completed a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jose Trevino also homered for the Reds (33-33), who got back to .500 for the first time since May 30. Eugenio Suárez homered to center field for Arizona (31-34) against his former team in the second. Corbin Carroll had an RBI single in the third. Reds starter Brady Singer went five innings, allowing two runs and five hits. He struck out three and walked three, leaving with the score tied 2-all.
