New Ross swimmers make splash
The event welcomed swimmers from twelve clubs across the Leinster region, creating a wonderful buzz around the pool and resulting in some truly memorable races.
The club's own swimmers performed exceptionally well, with strong swims across all age groups. It was a day to celebrate the depth of talent in New Ross Swimming Club and visiting clubs.
Looking ahead, the club's senior swimmers are preparing to compete in the upcoming Leinster Senior and Youth Championships at the National Aquatic Centre (NAC), as well as the Leinster Age Group Championships in Limerick.
Meanwhile, our junior squads are gearing up for the Curragh Summer Fun Gala, continuing their busy and exciting competition season.
This momentum follows an outstanding performance by New Ross athletes at the recent Irish Open Championships.
Emmet Cousins delivered a superb silver medal in the 200m backstroke and a bronze in the 400m individual medley before finishing off the week with a Senior bronze in 100m backstroke.
Eva Bayley also shone, earning silver and Junior gold for her 200m butterfly, plus Senior bronze and Junior silver for the 100m butterfly at championship level.
Luca Power added to the medal tally with a silver in the Junior 200m and 400m freestyle.
In addition, swimmers Leagh Bailey, Lilli Markey, and Emersyn Scully all turned in strong performances throughout the competition, showcasing the strength and depth of talent within the club.
A special mention also goes to Evan Bailey, formerly of New Ross Swimming Club and now swimming for NCL, who delivered some powerful swims.
The gala was a clear reflection of the hard work put in by swimmers, coaches, and volunteers alike. New Ross Swimming Club extends sincere thanks to all involved and looks forward to more success in the weeks and months ahead.

Wexford People Today at 12:30 New Ross Swimming Club had a highly successful weekend at the Ian Wright Memorial Gala in Bangor, returning with a fantastic medal haul and a host of personal best performances. The two-day event featured top swimmers from across the country, and the New Ross team made their mark with both podium finishes and strong overall showings. Noah Cowman opened the club's medal account with a bronze in the 200m backstroke after a strong performance on day one. Lili Markey continued her excellent form with a silver in the 100m butterfly, followed by silver in the 200m freestyle and a stand-out gold in the 800m freestyle on day two. Luca Power was in top form throughout the gala, winning gold in the 200m, 100m and 400m freestyle events, along with a silver in the 50m skins and bronze in the 50m butterfly. Juliette Pac Kenny produced a great swim to earn bronze in the 400m individual medley. Emersyn Scully delivered a strong performance to secure silver in the 50m breaststroke. In addition to the medal winners, several other New Ross swimmers impressed with personal bests, consistent effort, and strong racing. Patrick Crouch showed excellent form across the weekend, achieving multiple personal bests and demonstrating great consistency. Loughlin Daniels, Eva Mullins and Katie Ryan also delivered solid performances, gaining valuable race experience and showing great promise for future meets. As the swimmers look ahead to the upcoming Summer Nationals competitions, this gala served as a valuable benchmark and a celebration of the athletes' hard work. Wexford basketball club court great success
The team's success didn't stop at their league win as the Sparks went on to conquer the Top Four Tournament in Kilkenny on April 5, beating a very strong Portlaoise squad 49-42 in the finals. 'The team combines talented players from New Ross with dedicated players travelling up from Wexford Town. Their success this season is all the more impressive, given the journey this team has taken,' explained one of the team's coaches, Darren Arkins. "Just last season, they suffered several defeats that could have crushed their confidence. Instead, the players with the help of their coaching team regrouped and transformed themselves into a formidable force for the 2024/2025 season,' he added. Both coaches, Mr Arkins and Jack Thiel, praised the players' commitment throughout the season, with Mr Thiel commenting that the team has 'worked hard on and off the court, and the results speak for themselves'. "The pride they've brought to the club, to their families, and to the town is something truly special,' Mr Thiel said. Both coaches thanked the parents, who have supported the boys every step of the way. The club also thanked sponsors such as South East Vegetables and Cairn Construction.
