Inside the UK's craziest festival with medieval taverns and futuristic techtopia
Boomtown might be the country's trippiest, mind-bending festival, but it's kept pretty meticulously under wraps. Beyond being a major genre-fluid music festival, Boomtown is known for its unique design, stages, characters and experiences grouped together into 'themed districts'.
The 17th annual Boomtown, dubbed 'Power of Now' is set to take place between August 6 and August 10, 2025 at South Downs National Park. The 2025 line-up includes a mix of international stars and big names like Sean Paul, Sex Pistols and Rudimental, as well as infamous DJs Honey Dijon and Jyoty and literally hundreds of more acts.
The festival organisers have declared Boomtown 'the largest interactive theatre in the world' and highly encourage attendees (aka Boomtown citizens) to 'explore different worlds and ways of living' by taking on characters and engaging with the set pieces. It arrives just as a forecast reveals the exact date a 39C heat plume will scorch the UK.
This year's festival boasts 12 main stages and over 50 hidden venues with more than 60,000 people are expected to attend. The 2025 Boomtown festival is already sold out, but resale tickets may become available through the festival's Citizen-to-Citizen Ticket Marketplace.
Below is a snapshot of six of Boomtown's themed districts.

Area 404 is an industrial wasteland that is "a refuge for radical revolutionaries, lost kids and punks". In 2024 over 40,000 of Boomtown 'citizens' voted in Boomtown's election, choosing Area 404 and their district spokesperson; The Collector, to lead Boomtown.

Boomtown has killed off Copper County - it's all about the tinsel town of Copperwood now. This is the place to be for all "aspiring celebrities" looking for glitz, glamour, and the promise of stardom. (Boomtown) 4 of 7
Metropolis is Boomtown's cutting-edge techtopia. Festival-goers are invited to transcend into the digital realm under the guidance of Aurora Venturestone, CEO of Betterverse(TM) - though there may be some negative 'side effects'. (Boomtown) MORE ON

'Fully furnished studio flat' that is actually a shed with room for only a bed and sofa
'Fully furnished studio flat' that is actually a shed with room for only a bed and sofa The property is available to rent for 1,100 a month, not far from the local average for a one bed home The tiny rental property is located in Portishead, on the outskirts of Bristol (Image: Riverheron via Getty Images) A minuscule converted shed near Bristol has appeared on Rightmove for rent at £1,100 per month. Marketed as a "fully furnished studio flat", the dwelling consists of essentially one room and a bathroom. A compact kitchenette has been crammed alongside the bed, with a sofa positioned at its foot facing a wall-mounted television. Fittingly dubbed 'The Snug', the property spans merely 16 square metres, equivalent to 172 square feet. Government research from 2019 indicates that the typical purpose-built flat across the UK measures 58 square metres. This £1100 rental sits at barely more than a quarter of that size. The rental cost sits only marginally beneath Bristol's average, regardless of the property's microscopic dimensions and its position roughly two miles from Portishead's centre. ONS data shows that during June, the mean monthly rent for a one-bedroom property in Bristol reached £1,138. The Snug is available to rent, for £1,100 a month (Image: Google Maps) Estate agents Hopewell highlighted on the Rightmove advertisement that a "further benefit" includes all utilities being covered in the rent. "Hopewell are pleased to offer this furnished studio apartment situated in the popular Portishead area," the listing said. Article continues below "The property comprises of open plan living space, kitchenette with fridge, oven and electric hob and shower room. "Further benefits include electric heating and rent inclusive of all bills." Adding to the unusual nature of the listing is its owner, Lamorna Watts, a Bristol-born actress known for her roles in the iconic late 90s/early 00s football drama Dream Team and Hollyoaks: Let Loose, a spin-off from the long-standing Channel 4 soap. Article continues below North Somerset Council gave the green light for Ms Watts to transform the former garage into a liveable space in April 2020. A post on social media by Ms Watts in 2021 confirmed she had completed the project. The property has previously been available for short and medium-term lets. Ms Watts was approached for a comment. The flat/shed will be available to rent from 3 September, with council tax and bills included.

See when the Green Man festival headliners are playing
As Green Man is set to start for another year as the independent music festival returns to Mid Wales for 2025, here is when you can catch the headline acts. The festival takes place near Crickhowell in Powys and will feature live music from a range of indie, rock and folk music, varying from groups that have exploded over the past few years to iconic performers who have been making music for decades. With a slew of headliners ready to take to the stage over the next few days, here is a breakdown of when the biggest acts will be performing at the festival. Thursday The biggest act to perform at the festival during its opening day will be Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, performing at the Far Out stage as the festival's main stage won't be welcoming acts until the next day. Friday On Friday the Mountain Stage will welcome the likes of Wet Leg, a group that burst onto the British indie scene with their 2022 self titled album. The group opened Green Man in 2021 and are returning with a wave of fame and exposure behind them. Other headline acts on Friday acts include the British rock band Wunderhorse on the Mountain Stage, following American singer John Grant. Neo-soul singer Greentea Peng will take to the Far Out stage, as will Cardiff indie rockers Los Campesinos and Panda Bear, the moniker of Animal Collective co-founder Noah Lennox for his solo act. Saturday On Saturday Cardiff electronic legends Underworld will be performing at the Mountain Stage, as will Irish singer CMAT and American indie artist Perfume Genius. The headline over at the Far Out stage for Saturday will be English Teacher, a British band that won last year's Mercury Prize for their debut album This Could Be Texas and first played the festival at its Green Man Rising stage in 2022. Sunday The final day of the festival will be closed out by American indie rockers TV on the Radio, taking to the Mountain Stage after Portishead's Beth Gibbons and British indie band Yard Act. British funk pioneers from the 1970s, Cymande will be closing out the festival for those at the Far Out stage, who by that point in the day will also have seen performances by British singer and musician Nilüfer Yanya, folk singer Cassandra Jenkins and Welsh electronic musician Kelly Lee Owen.
