"We Will Not Allow It": Zelensky Rejects New Mineral Draft That Would Recognize US Support As Loans
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during a Friday press conference that he won't recognize past US military aid as loans, after Washington sent a new draft of the minerals deal to Kiev.
'Ukraine received a new agreement project from the U.S. regarding mineral resources, which is an entirely different document from the previous framework agreement,' said Zelensky, adding 'Ukraine will not recognize U.S. military aid as debt.'
'We are grateful for the support, but this is not a credit, and we will not allow it,' Zelensky continued.
The Ukrainian president also said that they are unwilling to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin 'or with someone who would represent Russia,' and instead said 'I think that if there are people, I think there are businesses in Russia, and they have many different regions, including serious business areas. I think that we would communicate with them if they have a vision of how to end the war'

One Ukrainian lawmaker said on Telegram that the revised mineral agreement is a 'horror' that offers no security guarantees from Washington.
Lwwmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a People's Deputy from Ukraine's Holos party, said he obtained a new draft of the mineral deal from the U.S., dated March 23 – which he says would grant the Untied States access to all existing and future mineral deposits across Ukraine, along with oil and gas throughout the country.
According to Zheleznyak, the new agreement contains 'not even a hint' of security guarantees – though he did note that the revised draft wasn't final, 'and I hope that the Ukrainian side will demand and achieve significant changes to it.'
'This is no longer a framework memorandum of intent, like the one discussed before the scandalous Oval Office meeting,' said Zheleznyak, adding 'This is a full-fledged, very clear agreement. And it's not in our favor.'
'It can and must be changed. Otherwise, I don't see how it could be ratified by parliament.'

Global powers scramble to prevent war after unprecedented Israeli strikes on Iran
Iran called Israel's wave of strikes yesterday a declaration of war, while world leaders called for de-escalation. Israel said its air strikes had killed several top Iranian generals, including most of the senior leadership of the Revolutionary Guards' air force, while hitting about 100 targets including nuclear facilities. Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned Israel it faced a 'bitter and painful' fate over the attacks, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the attack as a 'declaration of war' and President Masoud Pezeshkian said 'Iran will make the enemy regret its foolish act'. The strikes killed Iran's highest-ranking military officer, armed forces chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri, and the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, Iranian media reported. Khamenei swiftly appointed new commanders to replace those killed, while state media said a senior adviser to the supreme leader had himself been wounded. World leaders urged restraint after Israel pounded Iran. 'Cannot have nuclear bomb' 'There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end,' US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social platform, adding that Israel has a lot of weapons thanks to the United States and 'they know how to use it'. Earlier in the day, Trump told Fox News that 'Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table.' 'Maximum restraint': UN UN chief Antonio Guterres asked 'both sides to show maximum restraint, avoiding at all costs a descent into deeper conflict, a situation that the region can hardly afford,' according to a spokesperson. Guterres was 'particularly concerned' by Israel's strikes on nuclear installations amid the ongoing US-Iran negotiations. 'Unacceptable' and 'unprovoked': Russia 'Russia is concerned and condemns the sharp escalation of tensions,' spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state news agencies, calling the strikes 'unacceptable' and 'unprovoked', while the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv urged Russians in Israel to leave the country. 'Deeply worried': China 'The Chinese side... is deeply worried about the severe consequences that such actions might bring,' foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said, calling 'on relevant parties to take actions that promote regional peace and stability and to avoid further escalation of tensions'. 'Diplomacy best path forward': EU 'The situation in the Middle East is dangerous. I urge all parties to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation. Diplomacy remains the best path forward, and I stand ready to support any diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation,' said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. 'Right to defend itself' : France 'France reaffirms Israel's right to defend itself and ensure its security,' French President Emmanuel Macron said in English on X, calling 'on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to de-escalate' and 'avoid jeopardising the stability of the entire region'. Avoid 'further escalation': Germany Germany, which for years expressed concerns about Iran's 'advanced nuclear weapons programme', said it was 'ready to use all diplomatic means at our disposal to influence the parties to the conflict. The goal must remain that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons'.

Most US Abrams Tanks in Ukraine Destroyed
Russian media outlet RIA Novosti has cited a study which says the majority of the 31 US-supplied M1 Abrams tanks delivered to Ukraine have been destroyed. The tanks, which were authorized for transfer under President Biden, have all been destroyed or damaged with the exception of a mere five. These remaining tanks were then reportedly pulled from the front lines given Ukrainian commanders' fears they are too vulnerable to superior Russian airpower. The claim that 26 have been destroyed since they entered the battlefield seems plausible, and consistent with an April 2024 Associated Press report which confirmed at the time, 'Ukraine has sidelined U.S.-provided Abrams M1A1 battle tanks for now in its fight against Russia, in part because Russian drone warfare has made it too difficult for them to operate without detection or coming under attack,' citing two US military officials. And here's what a Ukraine war monitor published in December 2024: Ukraine has lost at least 17 Abrams, according to the Oryx open-source tracking group. Of those, at least eight were destroyed, one damaged, seven damaged and abandoned and one captured. The actual figures are likely higher in reality because Oryx only tabulates losses for which it has visual confirmation. Given that a year-and-a-half has passed since that prior report, it is certainly easy to consider that at least nine more tanks were disabled or destroyed in that time period. War-related social media posts have circulated several videos which purport to show Abrams tanks being targeted from the air and blown up… Russian telegram channels posted videos of fiber optic cable FPV strikes on a Ukrainian Abrams tank in Kursk oblast last week. Aside from a concussion, the crew survived without injury and made it back to friendly lines. @KofmanMichael and I spoke to the commander of the tank… — Rob Lee (@RALee85) December 19, 2024 According to Russia's RT and the defense ministry, Ukraine lost two of the Abrams tanks as recently as last week. 'Last week, Russia's Defense Ministry reported that two Ukrainian Abrams tanks had been seized during an operation in Ukraine's Sumy Region,' RT wrote. 'The Defense Ministry released a video showing Russian troops recovering the vehicles, which appeared to be intact,' the report continued. 'The tanks were reportedly towed to the rear by the 22nd Motor Rifle Regiment after reconnaissance teams secured the area.' Both President Biden at the time (in 2023) as well as much of the American media hailed that the Abrams tanks for Ukraine program (which involved training operators) would be a 'game-changer'. But it perhaps in the end proved embarrassing for the Pentagon. Also read: Man Who Flew 120 Times For Free By Posing As Flight Attendant Convicted Of Fraud
