Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's free update for Switch 2 has 'never looked better'
With updated 4K visuals, ScarVi is leaving gamers with surprisingly positive first impressions. The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially released today, with fans scrambling to get their hands on one- if there are any retailer's with stock left, that is. The gaming giant is issuing completely free updates to several games for the new console, including Zelda: Link's Awakening, Super Mario Odyssey, and interestingly, Pokémon Scarlet And Violet. The Pokémon game (or technically, the duo of games) on the original Switch has been deemed famously unappealing in the past in terms of visuals. The new update has left gamers wondering if Nintendo have managed to fix these games that Eurogamer described as 'graphical and technical disasters'. The original Scarlet and Violet game(s) has been slammed on Reddit for being 'ugly', with users also complaining of technical errors when playing. But is it possible that Nintendo have managed to fix the visual and technical problems in their updates for ScarVi the new Switch 2? According to early impressions, maybe. ScarVi looks like a completely different game on the Switch 2, according to gaming experts at Nintendo Life. They said: "Okay, granted, it's still not a particularly attractive game, but the performance looks to be running at a mostly rock-solid 60fps, while the visuals have been upscaled to 4K. That's pretty darn impressive. "Not only that, but more Pokémon can be seen in the wild at any one time, and even things like the dreaded windmill have been improved." The Pokémon Violet game for the Switch is available on Amazon for £49.99, and those with the Switch 2 will be able to download the free update. Scarlet is available for slightly cheaper at £37.99, also on Amazon, and either Scarlet or Violet are available on Argos for £37.99. Game reviewer Serebii on YouTube released an early review for the game, and said they were 'incredibly surprised' to see that many of the performance errors from the original game had been fixed in the update. They also said the visuals had seen some serious improvements. They said: "The visuals themselves have seen a bit of improvement, the colours are more vibrant even without HDR, the light bounces off the water better, and the Pokémon models have never looked better. "The particles are just great and really pop, and this is further shown when you terastallize a Pokémon, either in a standard battle or as part of a Tera raid battle." The reviewer also explained that there have been serious improvements in the definition and detail of Pokémon when viewed from far away in the updated ScarVi game. However, there were still some issues with the visuals of the game, particularly in terms of the textures of the landscape. The reviewer continued: "That said, the textural work hasn't really improved for the overworld of Paldea, so you can see more repeating textures on the cliffs in the distance. "And with the increased visual fidelity, it does make [the cliffs] a bit more clear, which may mean you'll notice the repeating a bit more." Gamers who have already got their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to download updates for certain games including ScarVi for free, and see these enhancements for themselves. Prime Video adds 'one of the best sequels ever' two months after cinema release
Fans think it was one of the best films released this year Prime Video has just added what's being hailed as the 'action film of the year' and 'one of the best sequels ever'. The Accountant 2, a follow-up to the 2016 original, is now part of Amazon's streaming library as of today (June 5), despite only hitting cinemas earlier this year. The first film, considered a hidden gem by many, can be viewed with a Sky Cinema subscription or a NOW membership. Ben Affleck reprises his role as forensic accountant Christian Wolff in the sequel, teaming up with his estranged yet deadly brother, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, to hunt down elusive assassins. Rumours of a sequel began circulating in 2017, but as time passed, it seemed to fade from fans' minds. Speculation about a third instalment has also been rife, with filming for the sequel only starting in March last year. Despite lukewarm critical reception for the first film, it became a fan favourite, and followers have finally been rewarded with a sequel. Bill Dubuque, the original writer who later created the Netflix series Ozark, returned to write the script and also took on directing duties, reports Bristol Live. The sequel has outperformed its predecessor both commercially and critically, earning a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans have been quick to laud it both as a standalone action film and for its achievements as a sequel. One devotee put it succinctly: "one of the best sequels ever". Another remarked: "This is probably the best action movie of the year. The test of a good sequel, for me, is that it works as movie in its own right, which this does. Whilst it will not win any Oscars, it was thoroughly enjoyable and made us laugh. The story line connects well to the original movie and the dynamic between the brothers is both funny and serious at the same time." Sharing their verdict on social media, another added: "This is how you do a sequel! The Accountant 2 blew me away. Unlike most action sequels that just go bigger and louder, this one slows down when it needs to and it works. The relationship between the brothers actually matters, and that emotional core gives the action real weight." They elaborated: "There's comedy that actually made me laugh, a bit of romance, and a moment or two that hit surprisingly hard. And yeah, when it's time to throw down, the fight scenes are slick, brutal, and insanely fun to watch. I came for the action, stayed for the characters, and left fully satisfied. Give me The Accountant 3 now!" While many spectators had previously declared the original film as Affleck's finest hour, some are now suggesting that the follow-up offers Daredevil actor Bernthal his crowning moment. One viewer praised Bernthal's performance, saying: "Bernthal is a national treasure. It was nice to see him do his thing in an action movie and not have nightmares from his grunting noises he does as the Punisher. He has never disappointed in any film, and made this movie 100% better just being in it."
