Transformers One gets disappointing update from director Josh Cooley
The 46-year-old filmmaker had helmed the 2024 flick for Paramount Animation, though Cooley has now said the studio is "not interested" in making a follow-up to Transformers One.
Speaking on a panel at the Transformers convention BotCon, the director said: 'I wish I had something to announce, but I do not. What I've been told is that Paramount Animation is not interested in making a sequel.
'That's what I was told. I wish we could. I have ideas, too. So it would have been cool. We'll see what happens. You never know.'
Transformers One - which stars Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry and Jon Hamm - explores the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron as allies on Cybertron before a rift turned them into enemies.
As war brews, their choices shape the fate of their world - and the future of all Transformers.
When Transformers One released in September, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura teased the film could be the start of a trilogy.
When Collider asked di Bonaventura and Cooley if a trilogy was possible, the producer said: 'I don't think anything's changed for us.
'The truth of the matter is you never get to the second movie unless everybody shows up at the box office. We both said to ourselves, 'This is way too hard to make one good movie to start thinking a lot about the second movie.''
While the picture was received well by critics, Transformers One had a disappointing performance at the box office.
On a production budget of roughly $75 million, Transformers One pulled in $129.4 million, making it one of the lowest-grossing movies in the franchise.
Di Bonaventura – who has been attached to the Transformers series since 1986's The Transformers: The Movie – teased Transformers One had several plot threads about Optimus Prime (Hemsworth) and Megatron (Henry) that could easily be picked up in a future film.
He said: 'Along the way, there were ideas that we were like, 'Well, that can't fit in here. Let's hold onto that. Let's not forget that idea.' Although I'm sure we've forgotten some of them.'
Cooley agreed and added they were definitely playing with the idea of making sequels to Transformers One, but emphasised that he and di Bonaventura were going to wait to 'see what happens' with the movie.
He said: 'I can't help but ... Yes, we were thinking of this one story for this moment, for this movie, but it's about towards the last year of a film where I can't help but go like, 'Well, how would this [to] naturally progress?'
'So we've got some ideas, we talked about a few things, and we'll see what happens.'

TV host exposes rude A-list encounter with Shia LaBeouf
Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Jesse Watters claims Shia LaBeouf verbally attacked him at an airport for no reason more than five years ago. The Fox News host recalled the actor's alleged insults during Tuesday's episode of Jesse Watters Primetime, while speaking to playwright and director David Mamet. Mamet was promoting his film, Henry Johnson, which stars LaBeouf. 'Well, Shia LaBeouf told me to go eff myself at a Delta lounge at the airport a couple years ago,' Watters said, per Page Six. 'So tell him I said hi,' he added sarcastically. 'Will you do that for me?' Mamet laughed off the story, responding, 'I think we need to … instead of electing very volatile people who love fantasies to be our actors, we have to start electing the philosopher kings and queens. What do you think?' Watters smiled and replied, 'I'd vote for a philosopher king or queen. Sign me up. I may even donate. I'm not allowed to — sorry Fox. Not in the handbook.' Fox News host Jesse Watters. Picture: Fox News The conservative commentator first talked about his alleged encounter with the Transformers actor back in 2019 while guest-hosting The Ingraham Angle. Watters claimed LaBeouf, 39, insulted him in front of his kids completely unprovoked. 'The other day, I was at a lounge at the Delta sky situation trying to take off for a flight with my family,' he said. 'And the actor Shia LaBeouf or whatever his name is, I think it was him — it looked exactly like him — I walk by and he calls me 'trash' right in front of my kids, you know? 'And I didn't say anything. I didn't lose it,' he continued. 'But, you know, these things happen.' LaBeouf has never commented on the alleged interaction and his rep didn't immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment. LaBeouf stars in the new film Henry Johnson. Picture: J. Merritt/WireImage Last month, the former Disney actor's ex-girlfriend, singer FKA Twigs, dropped her abuse lawsuit against him two months before the trial was set to begin in September. 'Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court,' Twigs and LaBeouf said in a joint statement to Page Six provided by their respective attorneys, Bryan Freedman and Shawn Holley. 'While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future,' the statement concluded In her December 2020 filing, the Cellophane singer, 37, accused LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress during their year-long relationship. LaBeouf denied all of Twigs' allegations, even citing 'self-defence,' in court documents filed in February 2021. In his official response obtained by Page Six, he denied his ex 'sustained any injury or loss by reason of any act or omission' because of him. Rihanna thrilled to see Smurfs movie being 'birthed'
Rihanna is thrilled that Smurfs is "finally being birthed". The 37-year-old star voices the part of Smurfette in the new animated movie, and Rihanna is delighted that her kids can now finally enjoy the movie. The chart-topping singer - who has RZA, three, and Riot, 23 months, with A$AP Rocky - told Extra: "We get to watch the movie together for the first time. I get to watch it in its full completion. So, that should be interesting. "Everybody gets to watch it on the 18th. So, we're really going for it now. It's finally being birthed." Rihanna - who stars in the new movie alongside the likes of James Corden, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, Alex Winter, and Hannah Waddingham - admitted that the film's premiere felt "so far away" when the project began. She said: "We've been working on it for so long. So, like, a few years now, actually. And it's happening … You know, you start working on something and 2025 feels so far away and then we're here." Despite this, Rihanna's sons weren't aware of her involvement with the movie. However, the singer - who has largely put her music career on hold in recent years, in order to focus on other ventures - was looking forward to seeing the reaction of her boys. Asked if they knew that she was playing Smurfette, Rihanna replied: "The boys know nothing, they're being introduced to Smurf Village right now, the blue carpet, and next is going to be me watching their reaction when they realise my voice is coming out of the screen. I can't wait for that one." Rihanna was a Smurfs fan during her younger years, and Ramsey Naito, the president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, thinks she's perfectly suited to the role of Smurfette. Ramsey recently told Variety: "When we first met with her, we learned that the Smurfs was her favourite show growing up, and from that moment, everything just clicked. "It felt completely natural to reimagine the Smurfs for today's audience with Rihanna as Smurfette because her genuine love for the franchise made her the perfect fit." Rihanna's "passion" for the Smurfs franchise actually shone through during the production process. The Paramount boss also observed that the film's "secret ingredient is love". Ramsey said: "I think when you're refreshing a beloved franchise like The Smurfs, the secret ingredient is love. And that love must come from people who truly care about the characters and their story. "Rihanna brought that passion, and it shines through in every part of the film."
