I'm a female solo traveler who has been all over the world… five destinations scared me enough to NEVER return

Daily Mail13-06-2025
A female solo traveler has revealed the shock destinations that scared her enough to never return.
Andrea Elliott, who goes by Andreaboldbodytravels on TikTok, shared five places to be cautious about.
'I've received a lot of death threats in the past for the list that I'm about to get into.
'But if you are a solo traveling woman like me, or if you plan on solo traveling somewhere this summer, I would watch this video in its entirety for the list of destinations that I will never travel to again as a solo traveling woman,' she began her video.
She then launched into her list - starting with Manila in the Philippines.
Andrea said she stayed in Bonifacio Global City and 'it was definitely not safe.'
'My hotel wouldn't even let me go to the ATM outside,' she explained.
'They told me to put more clothes on, not to wear a tank top because there were so many men outside and it just wasn't safe for me to walk alone.'
The traveler said she enjoyed the Philippines but 'Manila was not it.'
Next up, to great surprise from viewers, was Paris, France, as she explained: 'I was literally almost mugged twice while on the subway.'
'And mind you, there are police walking around with guns - like a lot of police and law enforcement walking around - but yet I was still nearly mugged while on the subway in Paris,' Andrea added.
'I was also cautioned about pickpockets and advised not to go out alone at night.'
Cartagena, Colombia, was the next destination that Andrea urged solo travelers to avoid.
'Overall, I really loved Cartagena, even though the men were pretty aggressive.
'The reason why Cartagena is on this list is because when I initially got there before I got into the walled city, I was taking a video from my taxi and stuck my arms slightly out of my taxi window.
'The cops then pulled up next to me in a scooter and told me to stick my arm back in - that it wasn't safe to have my cell phone out like that and just to be very cautious with my cell phone and my belongings.'
She continued: 'Not only that, but other locals also told me not to be out and about taking video and that it just wasn't safe for me to walk alone around, especially at night.'
Nearing the end of the list, Andrea issued a stark warning about Caye Caulker, Belize.
'I think Belize is so beautiful,' she began, 'Unfortunately, the men are very, very aggressive.'
'So much so that I had to pepper spray a man that was literally touching my person, touching me physically, just to get me to come into his restaurant,' she passionately explained.
'And y'all, this was multiple times. I had told this man after like passing by a couple of days, like, "No, I'm not interested. I'm not interested. No, thank you."
'And then finally he came up to me and was like touching me enough to where I had to pepper spray him and then he got the point.'
But the number one place Andrea will never go to again - and advises other female solo travelers against - is San Salvador, El Salvador.
'I was almost kidnapped by two men walking in San Salvador next to El Boqueron,' Andrea revealed.
'These weren't gang members, and this was after Bukeli had already cleaned up the streets.
'These were construction workers because they were in a flatbed truck and they had wired spool in the back of their truck.
'They pulled up next to me, of course, I was walking alone.
'Both of them grabbed me by my arms and were pulling me inside of their truck.

'I was denied boarding at airport over glaring issue with burgundy passport'

A woman was left red-faced after she was denied boarding at the airport when she realised she'd made a mistake with her burgundy passport When jetting off abroad, it's crucial to have all your paperwork in order. This includes an up-to-date passport, travel insurance and potentially a visa. It's vital to have these documents ready well before you set off, as turning up at the airport without them could see you denied boarding - leaving you stranded with no way to start your holiday. ‌ Most travellers are aware that passports need to be valid when flying, and many countries also stipulate how long they must remain valid during their stay. For instance, within the European Union, your passport needs to be valid for at least three months beyond your planned return date. ‌ However, one woman recently had her holiday plans scuppered when she overlooked a crucial detail about her burgundy passport before attempting to board her flight. ‌ Olivia Alcantara was all set for a family getaway, but upon reaching the airport and retrieving her passport from her bag, she realised she'd made a monumental error - she'd brought the wrong document. In a TikTok video, Olivia is seen burying her face in her hands against her suitcase as she holds up the passport she'd mistakenly brought along. Although it was the same burgundy colour as the old UK passport, the front cover was noticeably different. ‌ Rather than bringing her genuine passport along, Olivia had mistakenly packed a LEGO passport instead. The footage featured the popular Jet2 Holidays advert soundtrack as the camera revealed her father, who appeared utterly dismayed by his daughter's error. A LEGO passport resembles an authentic passport but bears LEGO branding on its cover. You can take the passport to any LEGO-authorised shop to receive stamps, and each outlet worldwide offers distinctive markings. ‌ Viewers responding to the clip were astounded by how Olivia could have made such an error, with many stating they verify their passports numerous times before departing home, never mind reaching the airport. One individual commented: "Who doesn't check their passport 1000x before they even get to the airport?!" Another remarked: "It's dad's fault for trusting his kids. He should have nagged, checked and made sure, no matter how much the family insisted things were fine." ‌ Passport checks to make before travelling The first thing you should verify before travelling is that your passport remains current. UK passports are typically valid for 10 years for adults, so if you possess a recent blue passport, it ought to be valid, having only been issued since 2020. If yours is burgundy, you must confirm that it is still valid before you travel. Each country has its own set of rules regarding passport validity, which can extend up to six months beyond your intended departure date, so it's crucial to familiarise yourself with the regulations of your destination. Typically, EU and Schengen countries mandate a three-month validity from your planned exit date, while Australia, India, and the UAE require six months from your arrival date. The US, Canada, and Japan only necessitate that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay, but it's recommended to have a few extra months to spare to prevent any potential complications.

Hidden European gem where residents 'literally live under a rock' is 'must visit'

Europe is home to many beautiful towns and cities, but one UK travel blogger has found a place she believes stands out as the 'most unique' - a town where houses are built beneath a massive rock Destinations in Europe are regularly a favourite among British travellers, thanks to their typically better weather and close proximity to the UK. This results in shorter flight durations than trips to more distant, exotic locations. ‌ While popular destinations such as Majorca, Ibiza, Paris, and Crete in Greece attract large numbers of tourists, there are also lesser-known spots that remain off the typical tourist radar. Spain continues to be the leading choice for British holidaymakers, with couples, families and groups of friends flocking there during summer months to escape the cooler British climate in favour of abundant sunshine and warmer temperatures. ‌ The diverse range of beaches, relaxed lifestyle, affordability, and rich cultural experiences are some of the key reasons so many Brits head to Spain each year. ‌ A UK-based travel blogger named Jess has built a large following on TikTok by sharing her travel tips and itinerary suggestions. In a recent clip on the social media platform, she showcased what she believes could be the "most unique town in Spain." She introduced her followers to Setenil de las Bodegas, a remarkable spot located in the south of the country. ‌ The town is famous for its picturesque whitewashed homes nestled into the surrounding rock formations. In her TikTok video, Jess captioned it with: "The people in this town literally live under a rock." Situated in the Cádiz province of Andalusia, the town is featured in Jess's video as she strolls through its narrow lanes, flanked by whitewashed houses adorned with flora dangling from black balconies. Along the streets, cafés and restaurants sit beneath the massive rock overhang, with outdoor tables, chairs, and parasols creating a cozy atmosphere. ‌ The travel blogger provided more details in her post's caption where she wrote: "Is this the most unique town in Spain? "This is Setenil de las Bodegas, an incredible village literally built into the cliff side. "The whitewashed houses are built beneath huge rock overhangs, and some of them are even available to stay in overnight. Or, you can just visit and enjoy lunch beneath the rocks." ‌ Perched above the Rio Guadalporcún river, Setenil de las Bodegas is home to just over 2,600 residents. The town has a deep historical legacy, with signs of human habitation tracing back to the 12th century. ‌ Calle Cuevas del Sol, or Sun Caves Street, is lined with bars and restaurants tucked into the cliffside, offering ample seating beneath the looming rock above. Another notable spot is Calle Cuevas de la Sombra, a tighter, dimmer street where the rock completely extends over the buildings, creating a shaded and enclosed atmosphere. Apart from the unique houses and structures carved into or beneath the rock face, visitors can explore various attractions, including Nazari Castle, a historic 12th century fortress that held considerable importance in the town's past, and a number of vantage points providing sweeping views, such as Mirador del Carmen, though reaching it requires a challenging climb of nearly 100 steps, Mirador del Lizon and Calle Ventosilla Alta. ‌ Setenil de las Bodegas can be reached from Malaga, with the journey taking approximately one hour and 15 minutes by car. Jess branded the town an "absolute must visit if you're planning a trip to Spain." Her TikTok clip has attracted responses from viewers who were captivated. One declared: "This is how you live with nature!" Others remarked "loved it here" and "beautiful."

'I saw My Chemical Romance on tour - you need to know this before Wembley shows'

A My Chemical Romance fan who recently saw the band in the US has shared some important advice for people heading to their future shows - including Wembley Stadium My Chemical Romance is currently taking their Long Live The Black Parade tou r around North America. While that leg is due to wrap up in September, they will be back on the road again in 2026 for two dates in Mexico and two sold-out shows at London's Wembley Stadium in July. ‌ The Wembley dates went on sale last week and sold out within minutes, as fans clamoured to get tickets to see the band perform their concept album, The Black Parade, in its entirety for the first time since 2007. The shows are set to be mammoth events for fans of the band, and as such, those who have already seen the tour in the US are sharing their advice online. ‌ A woman named Kay went to see My Chemical Romance when they played in Los Angeles in July, and has said there are a few things she didn't consider before she went that she wishes she'd known sooner. ‌ She shared a video on TikTok to help others attending the remaining US dates, as well as the Mexico City and London dates next year, including offering a big tip on how best to travel to the concerts. 1. Merchandise With thousands of fans attending every show, merchandise queues have been unsurprisingly long - and they're expected to be lengthy at Wembley, too. For each of the shows in the US, the band has been selling city-specific t-shirts, and while it's not confirmed if these will be available in London, Kay said queues for these items have been even longer. ‌ She said: "If you're in LA and you're getting the LA night one shirt or the LA night two shirt, if you're in Arlington, Chicago, wherever. If you're getting one of the shirts specific to your city, the lines are longer. They just are. Just know that you are going to want to get there early." 2. Travel Kay's biggest tip involved how to actually get to the venue on the day. While many of those attending the London shows will opt to use the underground system to get to Wembley Stadium, Kay had one key piece of advice for anyone brave enough to attempt to drive in: Ride share. Instead of you and your friends all driving separately to the concert, try to fill up one car with people to reduce congestion. This could help you get to the concert faster, and it will certainly save you money on petrol. ‌ She added: "Take a ride share. Trust me on this, I don't care if you're a local. The reason I say that is that parking was a nightmare. Which means not only did it take you guys in cars longer to get to the front of the line, it also took you longer to get into the venue. So you had to wait in two lines before you ever even got in." 3. Venue rules Kay insisted it's vital you check the rules of the venue you're going to before you visit, as different locations will let you take in different items. At Wembley Stadium, you generally cannot bring a bag larger than A4 into the venue with you, and you also cannot bring more than one bag. Wembley also has a ban on bringing fireworks, air horns, flares, cans, frisbees, spray paint, selfie sticks, and any food and drink into the venue. You can find the full list of prohibited items on the Wembley Stadium website. You should familiarise yourself with these rules, as well as any rules laid out by the event organisers closer to the time, before heading to the concert. Ignoring these rules could mean you don't get admitted into the venue. Wrapping up her video, Kay said: "It was an amazing show, I had a fantastic time. These are just tips that make it a little bit better. Have the best time ever, you're going to love it! Every part of it's amazing." My Chemical Romance will bring their Long Live The Black Parade tour to London's Wembley Stadium on July 10th and July 11th 2026.
