'I was denied boarding at airport over glaring issue with burgundy passport'
When jetting off abroad, it's crucial to have all your paperwork in order. This includes an up-to-date passport, travel insurance and potentially a visa. It's vital to have these documents ready well before you set off, as turning up at the airport without them could see you denied boarding - leaving you stranded with no way to start your holiday.
Most travellers are aware that passports need to be valid when flying, and many countries also stipulate how long they must remain valid during their stay. For instance, within the European Union, your passport needs to be valid for at least three months beyond your planned return date.
However, one woman recently had her holiday plans scuppered when she overlooked a crucial detail about her burgundy passport before attempting to board her flight.
Olivia Alcantara was all set for a family getaway, but upon reaching the airport and retrieving her passport from her bag, she realised she'd made a monumental error - she'd brought the wrong document.
In a TikTok video, Olivia is seen burying her face in her hands against her suitcase as she holds up the passport she'd mistakenly brought along. Although it was the same burgundy colour as the old UK passport, the front cover was noticeably different.
Rather than bringing her genuine passport along, Olivia had mistakenly packed a LEGO passport instead.
The footage featured the popular Jet2 Holidays advert soundtrack as the camera revealed her father, who appeared utterly dismayed by his daughter's error.
A LEGO passport resembles an authentic passport but bears LEGO branding on its cover. You can take the passport to any LEGO-authorised shop to receive stamps, and each outlet worldwide offers distinctive markings.
Viewers responding to the clip were astounded by how Olivia could have made such an error, with many stating they verify their passports numerous times before departing home, never mind reaching the airport.
One individual commented: "Who doesn't check their passport 1000x before they even get to the airport?!"
Another remarked: "It's dad's fault for trusting his kids. He should have nagged, checked and made sure, no matter how much the family insisted things were fine."
Passport checks to make before travelling
The first thing you should verify before travelling is that your passport remains current. UK passports are typically valid for 10 years for adults, so if you possess a recent blue passport, it ought to be valid, having only been issued since 2020. If yours is burgundy, you must confirm that it is still valid before you travel.
Each country has its own set of rules regarding passport validity, which can extend up to six months beyond your intended departure date, so it's crucial to familiarise yourself with the regulations of your destination.
Typically, EU and Schengen countries mandate a three-month validity from your planned exit date, while Australia, India, and the UAE require six months from your arrival date.
The US, Canada, and Japan only necessitate that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay, but it's recommended to have a few extra months to spare to prevent any potential complications.

'But the digital nomad visa allows anyone that is working online, as long as you are earning a set amount of money that provides for if there's four of you for the family, you can pay for all four of you, and they set out exactly how much that would be.' Hidden European gem where residents 'literally live under a rock' is 'must visit'
Europe is home to many beautiful towns and cities, but one UK travel blogger has found a place she believes stands out as the 'most unique' - a town where houses are built beneath a massive rock Destinations in Europe are regularly a favourite among British travellers, thanks to their typically better weather and close proximity to the UK. This results in shorter flight durations than trips to more distant, exotic locations. While popular destinations such as Majorca, Ibiza, Paris, and Crete in Greece attract large numbers of tourists, there are also lesser-known spots that remain off the typical tourist radar. Spain continues to be the leading choice for British holidaymakers, with couples, families and groups of friends flocking there during summer months to escape the cooler British climate in favour of abundant sunshine and warmer temperatures. The diverse range of beaches, relaxed lifestyle, affordability, and rich cultural experiences are some of the key reasons so many Brits head to Spain each year. A UK-based travel blogger named Jess has built a large following on TikTok by sharing her travel tips and itinerary suggestions. In a recent clip on the social media platform, she showcased what she believes could be the "most unique town in Spain." She introduced her followers to Setenil de las Bodegas, a remarkable spot located in the south of the country. The town is famous for its picturesque whitewashed homes nestled into the surrounding rock formations. In her TikTok video, Jess captioned it with: "The people in this town literally live under a rock." Situated in the Cádiz province of Andalusia, the town is featured in Jess's video as she strolls through its narrow lanes, flanked by whitewashed houses adorned with flora dangling from black balconies. Along the streets, cafés and restaurants sit beneath the massive rock overhang, with outdoor tables, chairs, and parasols creating a cozy atmosphere. The travel blogger provided more details in her post's caption where she wrote: "Is this the most unique town in Spain? "This is Setenil de las Bodegas, an incredible village literally built into the cliff side. "The whitewashed houses are built beneath huge rock overhangs, and some of them are even available to stay in overnight. Or, you can just visit and enjoy lunch beneath the rocks." Perched above the Rio Guadalporcún river, Setenil de las Bodegas is home to just over 2,600 residents. The town has a deep historical legacy, with signs of human habitation tracing back to the 12th century. Calle Cuevas del Sol, or Sun Caves Street, is lined with bars and restaurants tucked into the cliffside, offering ample seating beneath the looming rock above. Another notable spot is Calle Cuevas de la Sombra, a tighter, dimmer street where the rock completely extends over the buildings, creating a shaded and enclosed atmosphere. Apart from the unique houses and structures carved into or beneath the rock face, visitors can explore various attractions, including Nazari Castle, a historic 12th century fortress that held considerable importance in the town's past, and a number of vantage points providing sweeping views, such as Mirador del Carmen, though reaching it requires a challenging climb of nearly 100 steps, Mirador del Lizon and Calle Ventosilla Alta. Setenil de las Bodegas can be reached from Malaga, with the journey taking approximately one hour and 15 minutes by car. Jess branded the town an "absolute must visit if you're planning a trip to Spain." Her TikTok clip has attracted responses from viewers who were captivated. One declared: "This is how you live with nature!" Others remarked "loved it here" and "beautiful."
