'Military equipment got war-tested': DRDO chief says defence exports to go up after Operation Sindoor

as indigenous military equipment has got "war-tested".
Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of the CII Summit here, he also spoke about the recent clearance given by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the "execution model" to design and produce India's ambitious fifth-generation stealth fighter jet -- the
advanced medium combat aircraft

AMCA
).
"By 2034, the development work should be completed, and after that production should start from 2035. The first prototype flight will be ready by end of 2029," he said.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief said that in this execution model of AMCA which has been approved, "HAL can bid, private sector can bid, they can also bid as a joint venture".
"So, this will open up participation of the private sector for fighter aircraft development," he added.

The execution model approach provides equal opportunities to both private and public sectors on a competitive basis, the Defence Ministry had recently said.
When asked if Indian defence exports will see an impact in the wake of Operation Sindoor, the DRDO chairman said, "After Operation Sindoor, I am very hopeful that defence exports will increase because these equipment has got war-tested. So, countries will show interest in acquiring them."
Indigenously developed Akash missile system and Akashteer air defence system were some of the key military assets deployed by India during the recent four-day military confrontation with Pakistan.
Kamat also acknowledged the role of the Indian industry and academia, and said, "we have to achieve complete 'Atmanirbharta' in future".
India has been working on the ambitious AMCA project to develop the medium weight deep penetration fighter jet with advanced stealth features to bolster its air power capability.
AMCA along with the Tejas light combat aircraft are planned to be the mainstays of the Indian Air Force.
The defence ministry on Tuesday said Singh has approved the execution model for AMCA that will be developed by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in cooperation with industry partners.

Opposition stages walkout from Rajya Sabha over Bihar's SIR issue
New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) The Opposition staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha today, boycotting the proceedings over their demand for a debate on the ongoing revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar. The government criticized the Opposition, calling their move as 'irresponsible' as 69 hours of time have already been wasted in this session due to such disruptions. The House proceedings had resumed at 2 pm after being adjourned during Zero Hour amid the uproar. But Opposition members refused to give in, as they stood up from their seats and created a noisy disturbance in the House. Dr Sasmit Patra, who was in the chair, briefly introduced the objectives of the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, which was presented by Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. The Bill was introduced amid the chaos. The chair called upon AIADMK member Thiruchi Siva to present his amendment to the bill, but he began referring to the SSR instead. The Chair did not allow this. At the same time, Opposition members raised a point of order. Dr Patra allowed opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge to speak on behalf of the opposition, but when he attempted to say something about the Election Commission, ruling party members objected strongly. The chair ruled that no comments unrelated to the subject under discussion would be recorded. Leader of the House Jagat Prakash Nadda criticized the Opposition attitude, calling it irresponsible and a waste of the House's time. Meanwhile, Congress and other opposition members walked out of the House. The Union Minister said at the start of the session, on July 21, the government had expressed willingness to discuss the topic according to the rules. The Chair has repeatedly ruled that the subject raised by the opposition cannot be discussed under the rules. He said, 'Despite this, the opposition's disruptions have wasted 69 hours of the House's time so far. The opposition's behavior is irresponsible. They have no interest in discussion; they believe in chaos. I condemn their behaviour.' Nadda further said, 'We have arranged discussions on every topic as per the rules. We had a discussion on Operation Sindoor, in which they were defeated. They have started opposing the country while opposing the party.' Before the proceedings began, Dr Patra calmed the members and informed them that the Business Advisory Committee had allocated three hours and one hour respectively for the discussion and passage of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) Amendment Bill. DGP: Over 16k cases examined in state forensic labs since 2022
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the drone lab, DNA lab, and Atal library at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow. Director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna highlighted the remarkable progress of forensic sciences in the state and said that since 2022, at least 16,255 cases were examined in state laboratories, of which 15,105 involved fingerprint analysis. He praised UPSIFS as a milestone institution offering international-level education and research in forensics, bringing global recognition to Uttar Pradesh. Additional secretary, ministry of electronics and IT, Government of India, Abhishek Singh stressed India's determination to achieve technological self-reliance. He said India no longer wishes to depend on foreign digital products and is actively developing its own solutions, including indigenous alternatives to Microsoft Office. He highlighted the need for voice-based services in local languages, AI models trained on Indian data, and cyber forensic labs for enhanced digital security. "When technology speaks your language, it becomes a tool of empowerment," Singh remarked, noting the contributions of startups like Sarvam, Gyani, and Socket in this direction. He said that UPSIFS, with its students, faculty, and experts, is fully prepared to lead this transformation in forensic science, justice, and global security.
