"Quality Not As Good": Batting Great Rates This Series Over India vs England 2025 Tests
Down 1-2 after the Lord's Test, India showed incredible resilience to fight back and level the Anderson-Tendulkar series 2-2. On the back of incredible bowling by Mohammed Siraj, who ended the series as the highest wicket-taker with 23 scalps in five Tests, with figures of 4-86 and 5-125 across both innings of the fifth and final Test at The Oval, and that too in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah who sat out of the final game citing workload management.
Following India's stunning win in the series-decider, many fans labelled the series the 'best' in recent memory. Reacting to the same, former captain Nasser Hussain asked his ex-teammate Michael Atherton if it was the best series since the 2005 Ashes, or even better.
Atherton, however, was of the opinion that the India-England series came close to Ashes '05, which according to him is the best series of all time.
"I don't think the quality was as good as '05. I don't think I've seen a better series than the '05 Ashes. It was a great team on the decline and the emerging team, absolutely great players at the top of their game. But it was probably the best series since '05," said Atherton.

All-rounder Beau Webster eyes Ashes selection, turns to shield fixtures to make his case
Australia's all-rounder Beau Webster, despite a positive start to his Test career, which includes four fifties from his seven Tests, isn't taking things for granted, as per the ICC website. "I feel like I've been in this position before a lot in my career. I've got to score runs to either go to the next level or stay on the team. It's certainly not unfamiliar. I'm looking forward to once again showing what I can do at [Sheffield] Shield level, and hopefully, be lining up in that first Ashes Test in Perth," Webster added. "It's going to be a massive summer. I'm sure the team's going to change a little bit throughout those five Tests. I'm just going to do everything I can to make sure I'm there for all five." Webster will have four prospective Shield fixtures to make a strong case for Australia's selectors to pick two all-rounders for the upcoming Ashes. The all-rounder has complete faith in his capabilities, should the call-up come for him. "I feel like I've scored some tough runs. At the same time, there's no hundred next to my name, which I would have loved to go on with one of those [half-centuries]. I felt like I was batting as well as I have in a number of those innings. I feel like I've got all the tools to succeed this summer in the Ashes with what England are going to potentially bring," he said. The series starts on 21 November and will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

Duleep Trophy: After Ishan Kishan, Star Pacer To Also Miss East Zones Quarterfinals Clash
India pacer Akash Deep and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan have been ruled out of East Zone's Duleep Trophy quarterfinals against North Zone as both continue to recover from their respective injuries. Kishan was out of contention as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval due to a left ankle injury that required stitches after falling off a bike. As a result, Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeesan was flown in as Pant's replacement. Though Kishan has been at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, it is understood that he has been advised more rest, keeping in mind that India 'A' are also due to host Australia 'A' for two four-day games and three 50-over games next month. In Kishan's absence, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, who didn't get a game on India's five-match Test tour of England, will captain East Zone while all-rounder Riyan Parag will serve as the side's vice-captain. Odisha's Aashirwad Swain comes in as Kishan's replacement in the squad, while Jharkhand's Kumar Kushagra will become the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter. East Zone will also be without the services of Akash, who has been advised to rest. IANS understands that the exact nature of Akash's injury remains a mystery. However, a source claimed he is dealing with a back-related issue and has been subsequently advised to rest. Akash had missed the fourth Test against in Manchester due to a groin niggle. In all, he claimed 13 wickets in three matches on the England tour, including a match-winning 10-wicket haul in Birmingham. Assam's Mukhtar Hussain has been drafted into the East Zone squad as Akash's replacement. East Zone will open their campaign against the Shubman Gill-led North Zone in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal starting on August 28 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) grounds in Bengaluru. ‘Class and decency aren't his strengths,' ‘Always resort to personal attacks': Kaneria slams Pakistan teammate Afridi, backs Irfan Pathan
Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has voiced his support for ex-India cricketer Irfan Pathan when he opened up on his heated exchange with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. The all-rounder from Baroda divulged that Afridi often tried to provoke him with sharp remarks and personal comments while highlighting some of the intense moments they shared both on and off the field. Coming in Irfan's support is Afridi's teammate in the Pakistan cricket team, Kaneria, who said Afridi has always resorted to 'personal attacks' and that 'class and decency are not his strengths'. 'Irfan bhai, you're absolutely right. He always resorts to personal attacks, be it on someone's family or their religion. Class and decency clearly aren't his strengths,' Kaneria posted on X, formerly Twitter. Earlier, Pathan narrated an incident from the 2006 Pakistan tour, when both the Indian and Pakistani teams were flying together from Karachi to Lahore. 'During the 2006 tour, we were flying from Karachi to Lahore. Both teams were travelling together. Afridi came and put his hand on my head and messed up my hair. He asked me, 'How are you kid?'' Pathan recalled during the interview with Lallantop. 'I thought since when did you become my father. He behaved like a child. I was neither talking to him nor saying anything. After this Afridi said some bad things to me. His seat was near mine.' Irfan explained how he responded, which silenced Afridi for the rest of the flight. 'Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq was sitting with me then. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me meat of different animals are available. After this I asked whether dog meat is available. Razzaq was surprised to hear me and said, 'Hey Irfan why are you saying this?' To this, Pathan replied: ''He (Afridi) has eaten dog meat, he has been barking for so long'. 'After this Afridi could not say anything. If he said anything I would have said look he is barking more,' recalled Pathan with a chuckle.
