MCMC questions duo over viral video allegedly mocking Negaraku
According to MCMC's statement released today, one mobile phone and one SIM card were seized from the two individuals during the statement-recording session held at the MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya yesterday.
'MCMC will not compromise with any party that mocks or belittles the national anthem, in line with Section 8 of the National Anthem Act 1968, which mandates that all citizens must show respect for the anthem,' the statement read.
The MCMC also reminded the public to always show due respect to Negaraku as a symbol of loyalty and love for the country, and to refrain from any actions that could be interpreted as disrespectful toward the national anthem.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will wait for the outcome of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) investigation before deciding if he has to apologise to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over the RON95 fuel subsidy issue. On Oct 5, Anwar was reported to have said he had received reports that an opposition bloc MP had defended the rights of foreigners in benefiting from subsidy rationalisation. Muhyiddin then denied via a social media post that he had ever made any statement suggesting he was defending the rights of foreigners in the RON95 subsidy targeting matter. Anwar said it is important to wait for the outcome of the MCMC investigation. "I have no issue (apologising) if it can be verified that there was no proper source, that would be a mistake, and I have no problem with that. "I have also asked the MCMC to verify the information. Some people have misunderstood it as an investigation into Pagoh (Muhyiddin), but that's not the case. "I said there are different sources. Whether they are legitimate or not, we must wait for MCMC's investigation," he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

KEPALA BATAS, Aug 14 — Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has today suggested that he was not out to cause trouble with a planned event on Jalur Gemilang in Bertam here. In a brief post on Facebook, he said the wing's members are just here for the scenery and food. 'We just came to see the big flag and have some nasi kandar,' he wrote, attaching a news article citing Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. 'The big flag' refers to the giant Jalur Gemilang hung by DAP at a hardware store on Jalan Bertam Perdana, which recently went viral for flying the national flag upside down. Earlier, the police urged the cancellation of a planned gathering in Bertam here today over the issue of Malaysian flag, to prevent any confrontation between opposing groups. PDRM said the move was to safeguard the safety of the local community and maintain public order, after both Umno Youth and DAP planned to host events on the matter. The controversy began when a 59-year-old hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, was investigated after the Jalur Gemilang was seen hanging upside-down outside his premises. The shop owner has reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake made while measuring a flagpole, which he corrected soon after. Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh previously said it planned to hold a 'class' for the Penang shop owner, but later cancelled it after a warning by the police. DAP then announced it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilise Penang party members to distribute 831 flags, should anyone attempt to stir trouble.

Who's Perikatan next PM candidate? PAS should lead but coalition wants Hamzah, Youth chief suggests
PETALING JAYA, Aug 14 — PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has reportedly named five Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders as its potential prime minister candidates for the 16th general election (GE16), but insisted that the Islamist party should lead the nation. Free Malaysia Today cited him naming four leaders from his party PAS: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Datuk Idris Ahmad as the candidates. 'Personally, I'd say PAS should lead, as they have the most MPs. But if you ask from PN's perspective, I'd say Hamzah,' he reportedly said, referring to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin. The PN Youth chief cited the four PAS leaders' experience in governance, either in state or federal government. Despite the issue of the pact's choice, Afnan said PN's most difficult challenge would be forming a strong governing team if it wins the election. He also claimed that PN's growing strength had prompted attempts by its rivals to sow discord between PAS and Bersatu over matters such as PAS's absence from Muhyiddin's meeting with other opposition parties last month to establish a united opposition front. 'There are no problems in relations among PN MPs,' he said. The report also claimed that Hamzah is being lobbied as the pact's prime minister candidate in the next general election.
