Henry Pollock: Lions selection beckons if he stands tall in Dublin
Phil Dowson has been watching a documentary on the compelling story of the 2004 Boston Red Sox and how they rebounded from a galling defeat by the New York Yankees the previous year to shock their arch-rivals and then lift the 'Curse of the Bambino' by winning the World Series. It was Boston's first championship since trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920.
The Northampton Saints director of rugby has been showing clips to his team because there are parallels that can be drawn between the Red Sox slaying the big-spending giants from New York and the challenge facing Saints on Saturday, when they meet Leinster again in the semi-final of the Champions Cup, having lost narrowly to them in Dublin 12 months ago

Red Sox fans go wild as cameraman can't stop zooming in on stunning sister of new star Roman Anthony
Baseball's No 1 prospect Roman Anthony enjoyed his first hit for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night... but some fans were more excited by the presence of his sister in the stands. Anthony was finally called up to the big leagues at the start of the week and starred in Boston's 3-1 win over Tampa Bay, doubling in two runs for his team at Fenway Park. The game was shown live on NESN, but some Red Sox fans were just as interested in finding out more about his family as they were about watching their new superstar in action. In the top of the second inning, the cameraman honed in on Lia Anthony in the stands, Roman's 22-year-old sister, and social media - predictably - went crazy. 'I'd like to be the first to welcome Roman Anthony's sister to Boston!' one wrote on X, and others quickly followed. 'Lord have mercy,' another added, while a third noted: 'What's her @? Asking for a friend...' Lia attended the game with her dad Chris, mom Lori and brother Anthony Anthony, and they even posed for a photo with Red Sox legend David Ortiz. Lia is 22 and has just graduated from Florida State University, where she studied Human Development and Family Sciences. On Instagram she has just over 5,000 followers as of Tuesday night, though that number is expected to skyrocket after her surprise appearance on national TV. In recent posts, the new graduate shows off various recent vacations, including a recent trip with friends to Aruba. Lia only has 5,000 followers on Instagram but that is likely to change after her TV appearance At the end of April she headed to Nashville just days after celebrating her FSU graduation, of which she said: 'Thank you Florida State for the best four years of my life.' Her brother Roman, meanwhile, is just getting started with what has the potential to be an incredible career in Major League Baseball. The No 1 prospect in the sport, fans have been clamoring for him to get out of Triple-A for weeks and he finally got the call on Monday, making his debut the same day.

Roman Anthony makes first hit count as Red Sox beat Rays
June 11 - Roman Anthony recorded a two-RBI double for the first hit of his major league career and Trevor Story went 2-for-4 with a homer to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday night. Anthony, who was playing in just his second career game following a Monday recall from Triple-A Worcester, lined an opposite-field double into the left-field corner to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead in the first inning that they would never relinquish. Lucas Giolito (2-1) made the big hit stand up in his start for Boston, dealing six innings of three-hit ball over which he struck out four and allowed only one unearned run. Story added a towering solo homer to left field in the sixth, breaking a string of 10 out of 11 retired by Tampa Bay starter Ryan Pepiot (3-6), who finished with nine strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings. Tampa Bay was held to just three hits, with leadoff-hitting Yandy Diaz recording the lone RBI on a two-out single in the fifth. Back-to-back walks and an error brought Jose Caballero into scoring position, leading to the lone Rays run. The Red Sox found the scoreboard almost right away in the first, as Devers lunged a single into shallow center and Narvaez ripped a two-out double inside the left-field line to set the table for Anthony's milestone moment. Giolito delivered a much-needed strong start, allowing single hits in the second, third and fifth innings. A 4-6-3 double play turned by Kristian Campbell and Story on the middle infield got Giolito through the third in the minimum three batters, and the Boston starter wound up retiring five of the last six he faced. Anthony also made a gem of a defensive play in the sixth, sliding in right field to take a hit away from Jonathan Aranda and keep the score at 3-1. The visitors were hitless over the final four frames and off the bases for the final 4 1/3, as Garrett Whitlock and Greg Weissert followed Giolito out of the Boston bullpen. Whitlock struck out three in two scoreless innings before Weissert recorded the three-out save on seven pitches. --Field Level Media

Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs keeping his discussions with team about viral boat video private
New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs declined to share specifics about his conversations with coach Mike Vrabel and the team in the aftermath of a viral video that showed him passing what appeared to be a bag of pink crystals to women on a boat last month. 'Obviously, I want to be as candid with you guys as possible. I kind of have this thing where I don't talk about my personal life with people I don't know personally," Diggs said Tuesday following the team's final minicamp practice. "I'm pretty sure everybody here, men and women, are great people. But I kind of keep my personal life personal.' Tuesday marked the first time Diggs had spoken with reporters since videos were posted online of him chatting with three women before producing the substance. It wasn't clear what the substance was. An NFL spokesman said previously that the league would not comment, and Vrabel said the team would handle the matter internally. 'Obviously, it's a conversation that's happening internal. I can't really get into too much of the conversation about it," Diggs said. "The conversation I had with (Vrabel) and the people in the building is going to handled internal, in-house.' Diggs missed multiple optional team workouts this spring, but was present for the next one following the release of the video. He also was present for the Patriots' mandatory minicamp practices on Monday and Tuesday. Vrabel canceled a third practice originally scheduled for Wednesday. Diggs, 31, has attended multiple events this offseason with hip-hop star Cardi B — including the Met Gala and a Boston Celtics-New York Knicks playoff game. It has created an even bigger spotlight on the 10-year NFL veteran since he signed with the Patriots this offseason as a free agent, getting a three-year, $69 million deal that guarantees him $26 million. The four-time Pro Bowl selection posted six straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons for the Vikings and Bills before he was traded from Buffalo to Houston last spring. He had 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games for the Texans before he tore the ACL in his right knee in October. Diggs said getting his surgically repaired knee back to 100 percent in time for the start of training camp in July is his focus now. 'I'm grinding each and every day," he said. "Obviously, I can't do too much of the team stuff. But I'm eager to get out there, so whenever they do press the button I'm going to be ready. I'm trying, though." He did line up at times with the first-team offense on Tuesday as it installed new plays. But he wasn't allowed to participate in any full-speed drills, instead doing individual work with trainers. But it hasn't lessened his resolve to be cleared for full contact. "I'm confident. I've kind of took my rehab pretty serious," Diggs said. 'In beginning phases I wasn't as confident, but I was trying it out. ... When I came back here, I was in a mindset of I'm trying to get after and get going. But it's kind of like a dog on a leash, you want to hold it back a little bit, especially because I want to go. But it's the timing of everything and I'm looking forward to training camp.' ___
