Owen Wilson's Stick Sounds Like a Ted Lasso Ripoff. Actually, It's Better
It sounds hackneyed and heartstring-yanking—another comedy that uses sports as a cover to talk about men's feelings and relationships from the platform that brought us Ted Lasso. There are indeed elements of Stick, which premieres on June 4, that come off as pandering; as if a dad-rock soundtrack ('Baba O'Riley,' 'The Boys Are Back in Town') weren't enough, it even rips off Lasso 's earnest folk theme song. While it's a relief that Greer isn't forced to play a harpy, the show can be cringily conspicuous in its efforts to model empathy for women. A self-described 'genderqueer, anticapitalist, postcolonial feminist' character named Zero (Lilli Kay) initially reads as an assemblage of lazy Gen Z clichés that exist mostly in the imaginations of boomers.
Yet within the limitations of its formula, Stick works. A trite setup gives way to a looser road-trip vibe after Pryce convinces Santi and his savvy mom (Mariana Treviño) to pile into a RV with him and his cranky ex-caddie (an effectively typecast Marc Maron) for a summer of amateur tournaments. Everyone is low-key lonely, with familial baggage that keeps them from connecting with others. Thankfully, Keller's scripts aren't as twee or didactic about this stuff as Lasso and Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence's tend to be. Nor are his characters cartoons like Ted; most, including Zero, quickly become multifaceted people, courtesy of a cast blessed with unshowy charisma. A game changer it isn't, but Stick still comes out a few strokes ahead of par.

Max Verstappen pinpoints ‘incredible' reason for McLaren's F1 advantage
Max Verstappen believes he has now worked out why McLaren are dominating F1 so comprehensively this season, pointing to something that he describes as 'incredible to see'. McLaren clearly have the best car on the grid, as proven by the constructors' standings where they are a mammoth 299 points clear of second-placed Ferrari and have all-but sewn up the title ahead of the summer break. It's a similar story in the race for the drivers' crown with the title looking like a straight shootout between the team's two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Just three of the 14 races so far have been won by a driver from another team with Verstappen taking the chequered flag twice and Mercedes's George Russell triumphing in Canada. Piastri leads his McLaren teammate in the drivers' standings, although Norris closed the gap to a mere nine points by winning in Hungary in the final race before the summer break. Over the past 18 months, McLaren's MCL39 appears to keep it tyres alive longer than any other car on the grid. That has led to plenty of speculation as to why but while Red Bull star Verstappen acknowledges that the minimal tyre degradation does play a role, he has highlighted another reason for their success – their medium corner speed. 'It's definitely better on its tyres', Verstappen told the media. 'But at the same time, I think their medium speed performance is incredible compared to, I would say, everyone else on the grid. 'The rotation that they have on the front axle, without losing the rear, is something that is also quite incredible to see, and that's something that we have to try to achieve.' Any mid-season improvements from their rivals may come too late to catch a rampant McLaren but the rule changes coming into force for the 2026 season could signal a shifting of the guard. In the meantime, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella responded to Verstappen's cornering speed assessment. 'That's an easy answer because it can be answered just by looking at the GPS data,' Stella replied. 'When you look at the speed comparison with some other teams, the data says that McLaren can generate the highest mid-corner speed in medium-speed corners. 'So, I think the assessment of Max is correct. 'We still have our weak points. If you go on a very high-speed corner like Copse, for instance, or Pouhon, we are not the fastest car. Likewise, probably in very low speed, we are not the fastest car. 'But the majority of corners in a championship happen to be medium-speed corners, and certainly in that range, our car is, data in hand, the best.'

Apple TV+'s Martin Scorsese Doc Looks Like a Film Buff's Dream
Movie buffs don't catch much of Martin Scorsese in front of the camera outside of the occasional TV cameo (see: The Studio) or TikToks quizzing the great director on Gen Z slang. According to Apple TV+, that's because he's been gearing up to release a five-part documentary on his life's work. Titled Mr. Scorsese, the five-part documentary plans to offer 'unrestricted access to Scorsese's private archives,' featuring interviews with Cate Blanchett, Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Foster, Mick Jagger, Margot Robbie, Thelma Schoonmaker, Paul Schrader, Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, and, of course, Scorsese himself. Mr. Scorsese premieres on Apple TV+ on October 17. The first trailer (above) features a story from Spielberg about how the director once called him in a panic about Taxi Driver. 'You got to help me,' Scorsese told him. 'They want me to cut out all the blood.' Scorsese also threatened to buy a gun if the studio held his rough cuts hostage, though it was only a threat. Mr. Scorsese is directed by Rebecca Miller, who previously directed Arthur Miller: Writer—a 2017 documentary about her father, the Pulitzer prize–winning playwright who wrote Death of a Salesman, All My Sons, The Crucible, and more. 'This project is a filmmaker's dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborator,' Miller said in a statement for the trailer's release. 'I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for the stars. I'm excited to share a sneak peek of Mr. Scorsese, which includes the true version of a mythic, never-before-told story about Taxi Driver, and how thanks to Marty's perseverance and dedication to his art, the film retained its integrity and went on to become one of the most culturally significant films of all time.' Watch the full trailer above. Then you have approximately two months to watch Martin Scorsese's full filmography (27 films?!) before Mr. Scorsese premieres. Easy, right? Jennifer Aniston Recalls Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Tabloids
Jennifer Aniston is an acclaimed actor with a hit Apple TV+ show, The Morning Show, currently gearing up for its fourth season. But even all of her professional success isn't enough to keep fans from wondering about the 2005 tabloid scandal of Brangelina. In a new interview, Jennifer reflected on her 'love triangle' era and what it was really like to have the end of her marriage to Brad Pitt become public fodder. It's been 20 years since Brad famously left Jennifer for Angelina Jolie, his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star—and since Jennifer gave her first interview after the split with Vanity Fair. 'I haven't looked at that article in forever,' she said in her new cover interview with Vanity Fair. 'I just remember the experience of doing it—which was kind of jarring. It was also such a vulnerable time.' Looking back at her experience being on the cover of every tabloid, her marriage the subject of every celebrity gossip, Jennifer said, 'Journalism back then felt more like a form of sport.' She continued, 'It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas, they had their tabloids.' The actor continued, saying that she told herself, 'Just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and keep on walking, girl.' Still, she was hurt by it, admitting, 'I didn't have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it. We're human beings, even though some people don't want to believe we are. They think, 'You signed up for it, so you take it.' But we really didn't sign up for that.' That's not to say that Jennifer herself isn't immune to a little gossip now and then, especially when it concerns her famous ex. Asked about her friendship with Gwyneth Paltrow (who was famously linked to Brad before he married Jennifer) and whether or not the two ever swapped stories about their shared ex, Jennifer admitted, 'How can we not? We're girls.'
