‘Ungaludan Stalin' special camps to be launched in Erode district on Tuesday

District Collector S. Kandasamy has said that special camps under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme will be launched in Erode district on Tuesday (July 15, 2025).
Addressing media persons at the Collectorate on Monday, the Collector said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the scheme, following which Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy will formally launch a camp in the district.
In Erode district, a total of 340 special camps will be conducted, including 40 in the Corporation, 41 in Municipalities, 84 in town panchayats, and 175 in village panchayats. The camps are scheduled between July and October 2025, he said.
In the first phase, 114 camps will be held between July 15 and August 14, 2025. More than 20 supervisory officers at the Deputy Collector level have been appointed for monitoring, along with 64 departmental officers and 114 supervisors, the Collector added.
To specifically address the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, four dedicated counters will be set up and manned by 456 trained volunteers. Details of camp locations have been uploaded on the official Erode district website: www.erode.nic.in. The camps will function daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Applicants seeking to get benefits under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme must bring their Aadhaar card, bank passbook (original or copy), and the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar. Revenue officers and trained volunteers will assist at the camps. Those unable to apply at one camp may visit the nearest upcoming camp, he said.

Collector launches book reading movement ahead of Erode Book Festival 2025

In a bid to promote reading habits among school and college students ahead of the Erode Book Festival 2025, District Collector S. Kandasamy launched a district-wide book reading movement on Thursday. As part of the initiative, the Collector also joined students and read books with them, emphasising the joy and importance of reading. The 21st edition of the Erode Book Festival is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 12 at the grounds of Chikkaiah Government Arts and Science College, Erode. The festival is being jointly organised by the Department of Public Libraries and Makkal Sinthanai Peravai. To mark the occasion and underscore the significance of the event, the Collector read books with students for 21 minutes. Speaking about the value of reading, he noted that 'books are essential tools for intellectual and cultural development. Reading enhances knowledge, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.' He also cited notable sayings such as 'Let's read books to build a better world,' and 'Touching a book may feel like paper, but reading it continuously turns it into a weapon of success.' The book reading movement witnessed participation from 1.6 lakh school and college students across the district, who took part from their respective institutions. Students read a wide range of literature, including works by scholars, science books, literary novels, short stories, poetry collections, books on ethics, biographies, and thought-provoking essays.
