Negri Sembilan to secure over RM10bil new investments in 2025, says MB Aminudin

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan is on track to meet its target of securing more than RM10bil in new investments for this year, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun ( pic ).
The Mentri Besar said the target could be achieved based on investments received in the first half of this year so far.
"Based on our performance for the first six months, yes, we can achieve our target.
"Although we have our own figures, only the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry can state the exact amount approved so far, as they are the final authority on approving these investments," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (Aug 20).
In 2024, the state received investments totalling RM7.25bil involving 208 approved projects covering the manufacturing, services and other key sectors.
Of this, RM3.4bil or 46.9% was foreign investment, most of which involved high-tech projects.
Aminuddin said the outlook for the second half of the year also looked bright with several new investors planning to invest in the state.
"We have several new investors coming in, including a semiconductor manufacturer from China setting up operations here.
"In fact, the state will be opening another new area for new industries covering a large area in the next few months to house more investors," he said.
The new industrial area, he said, will be located in the Malaysian Vision Valley 2.0.
To another question, Aminuddin said he has yet to receive any report of existing investors planning to move out of the state due to global economic uncertainties.
"I have no information on this, but I am confident that this will not happen following the lower tariff structure announced by the United States on exports.
"I believe Malaysia is still an attractive investment destination despite the new tariff structure," he said, adding that the state has continued to receive queries on investment opportunities despite the tariff announcement.

MBW Innexus Industrial City to create 37,000 jobs with RM2 billion GDV

JOHOR BAHRU: The MBW Innexus Industrial City project with a gross development value of RM2 billion is projected to create approximately 37,000 employment opportunities across various skill levels. Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz confirmed this significant development for Malaysia's industrial landscape. He stated that the project represents a major milestone in the nation's industrial journey. Tengku Zafrul emphasized that these employment opportunities will generate long-term benefits for Malaysia's workforce, businesses, and local communities. 'Those 37,000 jobs are not just statistics, but opportunities that will uplift families and transform communities,' he declared during the project launch. The minister further explained that MBW Innexus will expand Malaysia's industrial base significantly. He noted the project will specifically support small and medium enterprises while strengthening regional competitiveness. The industrial city spans 296 hectares of prime land located in Tanjung Langsat, Johor Bahru. This strategic development falls within Flagship D of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Its positioning places it within Southeast Asia's industrial 'Golden Triangle' connecting Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang, and Singapore's Jurong. Tengku Zafrul highlighted the corridor's unique potential to become the region's most connected industrial cluster. 'This corridor offers investors unrivalled cross-border supply chain integration,' he affirmed. The development will benefit from JS-SEZ's pilot policies designed to reduce bureaucratic hurdles. These policies will accelerate investor processes in immigration, customs, and investment approvals. Talent mobility initiatives will also be streamlined under these special economic zone provisions. The project's proximity to leading educational institutions provides additional advantages. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan will ensure a steady pipeline of skilled workers. This educational connectivity will create collaboration opportunities between multinational corporations and local SMEs. Tengku Zafrul emphasized strong alignment between federal government, Johor state government, and private sector partners. This collaboration reflects Malaysia's commitment to being pro-business, pro-investment, and pro-industry. 'Our message is simple: Malaysia is not only a safe place to invest, but a long-term partner for growth,' he stated. He concluded that Johor's strategic location and dynamic economy position it perfectly for next-generation industrial investments. - Bernama

Communications Ministry To Conduct Study On Music Industry Development, Issues And Challenges

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is implementing a Music Industry Development Study to examine issues, challenges and proposed action plans towards empowering the sustainable and dynamic development of the Malaysian music industry. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the study is also refining business models, governance, staffing and specific laws that can support the development of the industry. 'For music, we currently do not have a specific act, therefore the ministry is looking into the best way to ensure that an act is drafted to ensure the welfare, sustainability and development of the music industry. 'We are looking into it and this study also takes into account the views and input of music industry players through the Music Industry Protem Committee,' he said when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) motion for the Ministry of Communications at the Dewan Rakyat today. He said a total of 20 members of the Music Industry Protem Committee had been appointed, from various fields including composers, lyricists, recording companies or studios, singers, musicians, Collective Management Organisations (CMOs), publishing companies, association representatives, academicians and event management. Fahmi said the results of the study would be used as input in determining the availability and need for a specific body to regulate the development of the music industry or to include the music industry in the functions of existing agencies or regulatory bodies. Regarding the proposed amendments to the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia Act (Finas) 1981 (Act 244), Fahmi said it is expected to be tabled in the upcoming Parliament meeting scheduled for this October. He said the process of improving the act includes expanding the scope of regulation, governance, functions and enforcement aspects of the act. Among the proposed amendments under Act 244 is related to the membership of Finas Corporation Members, which falls under the scope of governance which aims to improve the membership structure so that it consists of experienced local film industry players, has an excellent record of achievement in the field of local film and has credibility in fighting for the welfare of industry players.

No official letter yet about US tariffs on semiconductor chips, says Zafrul

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Malaysia has yet to receive any official letter from the United States regarding the possibility of a 300% import tariff on semiconductor chips, says Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz (pic). The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said the government is still waiting for an official announcement from US president Donald Trump's administration. 'At the moment, we have yet to receive an official decision, so we will wait,' he said when asked by the media after launching the MBW Innexus Industrial City development at Forest City here on Wednesday (Aug 20). On Aug 15, Trump reportedly said he would set levies on semiconductors in the coming two weeks, the latest indication he is readying a substantial expansion of his tariff regime. He suggested the charge on imported semiconductors could be even higher, up to 300%. On a separate matter, Tengku Zafrul said the government would be announcing the nation's approved investments value for the second quarter of 2025 this Friday (Aug 22). 'The position of Johor, which topped the list in the first quarter, is looking positive but I do not want to reveal too much ahead of the announcement this Friday,' he added. Johor emerged as Malaysia's top investment destination for the first quarter of the year, recording RM30.1bil in approved investments.
