Wait over: Opel finally puts price on limited run Corsa Irmscher
Having made two public appearances, the most recent being at the Simola Hillclimb in April, Opel has finally divulged complete details of the limited edition Corsa Irmscher.
Extensively made reference to on the Blitz's website since its surprise showing at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring last year, the Irmscher largely rates as an appearance package based on the flagship Corsa GS Line without any additional power or torque.
Named after the tuning house long associated with the Rüsselsheim's marque, the Irmscher comes as a first for the Corsa and for South Africa since the limited edition Astra Irmscher sold between 2003 and 2004.
The fourth Irmscher model to be marketed locally after the Astra and before that, the Rekord and Kadett, the model's aesthetics extra over the GS Line comprises gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels, a front lip spoiler, Irmscher side sills, an imitation rear diffuser, bootlid spoiler and Irmscher badges.
Sitting 30 mm closer to the ground than the GS Line, the Irmscher does, however, loose the fluorescent yellow decals of the unit raced at Simola, though it does retain the gloss black lower air intake and standard LED headlights.
Available in three colours, of which no details bar the contrasting of a black roof was revealed, the Irmscher's interior additions are more minor by being inclusive of Jet Black cloth and imitation leather-trimmed seats and Irmscher branded floor mats.
Based on the GS Line means the Irmscher carries over the same specification items, namely 10-inch infotainment system and seven-inch digital instrument cluster, the six-speaker sound system, folding electric mirrors, LED headlights, automatic air-conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rain sense wipers and cruise control.
Taking care of safety is a 180-degree reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, Lane Keep Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking, Hill Start Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Attention Alert, Electronic Stability Control and six airbags.
Underneath, and as with the forebearers, the 1.2-litre PureTech turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine develops an unchanged 96kW/230Nm channelled to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The claimed top speed is 208 km/h, with 0-100 km/h taking 8.7 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.3 L/100 km.
Price
Now available, but restricted to 40 units, the Corsa Irmscher's price tag includes a five-year/100 000 km warranty plus a three-year/45 000 km service plan.

Subaru removing wraps from new Forester at Festival of Motoring
Delayed sixth generation Forester is expected to continue with the tried-and-tested combination of the normally aspirated Boxer flat-four engine matched to a CVT. Announced at the beginning of July as coming to South Africa, Subaru has officially confirmed the all-new Forester as making its public debut at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring at the end of this month. The local arm's most important model, as its most recent introductions were the turbocharged Outback XT and XV in 2023, the internally named SL Forester will finally be unveiled on local soil two years after premiering globally at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. What to expect? Teased on Subaru South Africa's Instagram page, with only the date of reveal being disclosed, the Forester will ride on what Subaru claims is a stiffer version of the Global Platform, with dimensional gains on the overall length and width fronts. Said to offer between 318 and 2 106-litres of boot space, the Forester's interior will incorporate the new 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment system, as well as the brand's latest EyeSight safety and driver assistance system. Despite no exact spec details being divulged, based on the items available in the United States, expect the Forester to feature electric, ventilated and heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, hands-free electric tailgate, a wireless smartphone charger and LED headlights. Wraps coming off LDV Terron 9 at Kyalami Festival of Motoring
Chinese automaker's flagship bakkie will have three trim levels and power from a new 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine. Having made steady progress into the local market since its formal launch last year, LDV has released select details of its incoming Terron 9 flagship bakkie. Confirmed to make its public debut at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring at the end of this month, the Terron 9 will slot-in above the T60, and compete in the more premium bakkie segment against the likes of the Ford Ranger Platinum, Volkswagen Amarok and GWM P500. Stickered in Australia at the end of June, the South African-spec Terron 9 will be made available in three trim levels; Elite, Luxury and Premium, all powered by LDV's in-house developed 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine. While no details surrounding the engine's specifications was divulged, Down Under, the mill develops 163kW/520Nm, which goes to the rear or all four wheels through a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. Due out later, the Terron 9 will also offer an electric version, the eTerron 9, which debuted under the Maxus nameplate at the Nampo Agricultural Expo in Bothaville in the Free State in May. of Dimensionally, the Terron 9 has an overall length of 5 500 mm, wheelbase of 3 300 mm, height of 1 874 mm and width of 1 997 mm. Its claimed ground clearance is 220 mm, tow rating 3 500 kg and payload between 1 005 kg and 1 100 kg based on the Australian-market variant. Able to ford 500 mm, the Terron 9 has an approach angle of 29-degrees, breakover angle of 20-degree and departure angle of 25-degrees. In Australia, where two trim grades are offered, the Terron 9's specification sheet includes 18 or 20-inch alloy wheels, a four-speaker or eight-speaker JBL sound system, dual 12.3-inch displays, ambient lighting, a rubberised loadbin, rain sense wipers, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, bi-LED headlights, up to two diff-locks and heated rear seats. Safety comes via a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Trailer Reverse, Lane Departure Warning and Traffic Sign Recognition. Although priced from the equivalent of between R591 834 and R649 868 in Australia, speculation has hinted at the Terron 9 possibly having a starting sticker around R820 000 to R850 000 based on the T60's stickers ranging from R480 000 to R790 000. Kyalami Festival of Motoring gearing up as highlight of August
Tickets for the annual automotive showpiece are now on-sale. South Africa's biggest automotive showpiece, the Kyalami Festival of Motoring, returns to form at the end of August, with ticket now being available. Taking place from 29 to 31 August, the eighth edition of the now annual event will have vehicles exhibited from amongst others Toyota, Volkswagen, Isuzu, Suzuki, Mahindra, Subaru, Chery, BYD, BAIC, GAC, LDV, GWM Haval and MG. For some, it will mark the official debut of the exhibited product on South African soil ahead of the start of sales either at the end of the year or early next year. As before, the ever popular hot lap track driving experience returns, as does the self-driving opportunity on the in-field handling track, the 4×4 experience at the top section of the circuit, plenty of activities ranging from simulators to go-karts, plus a drifting showcase. In addition, early bird ticket buyers, i.e. before 00h00 on 3 August, will stand a chance of winning prizes worth R16 000.
