Ohio State basketball opponent and venue in CBS Sports Classic announced
We are starting to get some information trickling out about the Ohio State basketball schedule. Though last season wasn't a very good one for the Buckeyes, head coach Jake Diebler and the program hope that this coming year will be an improved one.
One thing we've wondered since West Coast teams Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC joined the Big Ten is how the annual CBS Sports Classic will look, considering the Bruins were a part of the four teams that took part in the event every year. As a reminder, the event rotated matchups between OSU, the Bruins, North Carolina, and Kentucky since its inception in 2014.
Well, we have a bit of an answer, at least for this coming winter. Ohio State, North Carolina, and Kentucky are still a part of the event, but UCLA has been replaced by St. John's. Now, all that's left is to figure out what the matchups will be and where it'll all take place. Last year's was in New York City in the venerable Madison Square Garden, but the four-team event has traveled around the country each year.
According to the CBS Sports Classic website, things will tip off in State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, with the Buckeyes matching up with North Carolina. That, of course, means the other battle will involve Kentucky and St. John's. UNC and OSU are no strangers to each other and have had some pretty significant history as of late, largely because of the CBS Sports Classic.
The Tar Heels defeated Ohio State 89-84 in an overtime contest back in 2022. All told, Carolina leads the series in the CBS Sports Classic three games to none, while the Buckeyes have an overall record of 6-4 in the event, behind only UNC's 7-4 record. In other words, this winter's battle will be a battle for the best mark in the event.
OSU upset Kentucky last year in the event, 82-62.

Lee Corso's final 'College GameDay' show will be Aug. 30 at Ohio State
BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — Lee Corso's final headgear pick on 'College GameDay' will be on the campus where it all started. ESPN's iconic show will begin its 39th season at Ohio State before the defending national champion Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30. Corso, who turns 90 in August, announced earlier this year that his final show would be on the opening week of the season. Corso began his popular headgear segment on Oct. 5, 1996, before Ohio State faced Penn State. Since then, he has gone 286-144 in 430 selections wearing everything from helmets and mascot heads to dressing up as the Fighting Irish leprechaun from Notre Dame, the Stanford tree and historic figures James Madison and Benjamin Franklin. He has worn 69 different school's mascot headgear. Corso — the lone remaining member of GameDay's original cast — has selected and worn Brutus Buckeye's headgear a record 45 times. Alabama is next with 38. This will be the 26th appearance by 'College GameDay' in Columbus. The Buckeyes have a 19-6 record in those games.

ESPN's 'College GameDay' Makes Exciting Lee Corso Announcement on Tuesday
ESPN's 'College GameDay' Makes Exciting Lee Corso Announcement on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After what was his 38th season as a part of ESPN's iconic "College GameDay" show, it was announced in April that Lee Corso would be retiring. Advertisement The 89-year-old former head coach best known for his unfiltered takes, willingness to always have fun and iconic headgear picks will join the show one final time in 2025. While it had yet to be confirmed, many fans speculated that Corso's final show would take place in Columbus, Ohio ahead of the Texas-Ohio State matchup. Aside from this being a rematch of a College Football Playoff Semifinal from last season and a likely meeting between two top five teams, it is also where his journey began with the show. On Tuesday, the show confirmed that would indeed be the case. "We're kicking off College GameDay with a trip to Texas-Ohio State, as we celebrate Lee Corso's final show back where he first made headgear history! 🤩," read the post. While Corso's "College GameDay" debut came in 1987, Corso made his first headgear selection prior to a game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions in Oct. 1996. In a statement in April, Corso revealed how blessed he was to have been a part of such a special show. 'My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and 'College GameDay' for nearly 40 years,' said Corso. 'I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.'
