Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler breaks down the game of transfer Christoph Tilly

Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler breaks down the game of transfer Christoph Tilly The Ohio State basketball team you see next season will be significantly different than the one you watched this past year. Several players have left the program through the transfer portal, and that has led to some significant additions coming to the banks of the Olentangy as well. One of those incoming newcomers is center Christoph Tilly. He came to the Buckeyes after playing for the Santa Clara Broncos the last three years. He's a big man, but one that can step outside and use his athleticism to stretch the defense. When the Buckeyes signed him out of the portal, it didn't make a big splash in college basketball, but don't tell that to OSU head coach Jake Diebler. He is excited about what the seven-footer can bring to the team next season as the Buckeyes look to rebound from a very disappointing season. Diebler took to social media to discuss what Tilly can do for Ohio State on the court, and after you watch the short video, you too might be feeling rather optimistic about his chances to enhance the team's chance of making some noise this winter. Let's hope Diebler is right and that Tilly brings a different dimension to Ohio State this season. The team sorely needs a turnaround and some momentum to get back to where many believe the program should be. Ohio State lands another big man via the transfer portal from Baylor

Just a day after Jake Diebler shared an update on where the Ohio State basketball team is and is headed, the Buckeyes landed another key addition to the roster. 6-foot-10 center Joshua Ojianwuna has committed to wear the Scarlet and Gray for the upcoming season. Ojianwuna comes to Columbus via the transfer portal after spending three years with the Baylor Bears. While in Waco, the native Nigerian averaged 5.3 points during his time in Green and Gold. His most productive year came this past season, where he averaged 7.4 points per game on 77 percent shooting and added 6.4 rebounds while starting 23 games. He helped lead the Bears to a 20-15 record and a No. 9 seed in the NCAA tournament. Ojianwuan is a former four-star recruit and top 100 player. Ojianwuna joins 7-footer Christoph Tilly and Brandon Noel as the latest to join the Buckeyes via the portal. Ohio State needed to address its lack of size on the inside, and Diebler has kept his focus on that need to help the Bucks be able to handle the physical play of the Big Ten. Ojianwuna will have one year of eligibility left and should be a nice addition for the Buckeyes. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle

Ohio State basketball head coach Jake Diebler provides offseason update

Ohio State basketball head coach Jake Diebler provides offseason update This past season was not what anyone in and around the Ohio State basketball program dreamed of. The team missed the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year and finished the season on a very sour note. Head coach Jake Diebler would be the first to tell you that what we saw from the team and program last season is not what should be happening on the banks of the Olentangy, and he took some time to address all of that and to provide an update to the program via the Ohio State Hoops "X" account this week. It might be a little unconventional to provide a quick, little over three-minute update on social media rather than a press conference, but It's kind of nice that Diebler is out there addressing some things directly with Buckeye Nation. We thought we'd bring you his entire update so you can get up to speed if you haven't seen it already. In the video, Diebler addresses the disappointment of last year, how the program was able to retain some key players, what happened with the transfer portal, some things that are being done inside the Schott to make the environment better, and more. Get a look, and listen for yourself. It sounds like Diebler might be looking to do more of these updates in the future and if and when he does, we'll be sure to bring it to you as well. Here's to hoping the optimism he is showing in this video translates to what we see on the court next season. Ohio State basketball opponent and venue in CBS Sports Classic announced

Ohio State basketball opponent and venue in CBS Sports Classic announced We are starting to get some information trickling out about the Ohio State basketball schedule. Though last season wasn't a very good one for the Buckeyes, head coach Jake Diebler and the program hope that this coming year will be an improved one. One thing we've wondered since West Coast teams Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC joined the Big Ten is how the annual CBS Sports Classic will look, considering the Bruins were a part of the four teams that took part in the event every year. As a reminder, the event rotated matchups between OSU, the Bruins, North Carolina, and Kentucky since its inception in 2014. Well, we have a bit of an answer, at least for this coming winter. Ohio State, North Carolina, and Kentucky are still a part of the event, but UCLA has been replaced by St. John's. Now, all that's left is to figure out what the matchups will be and where it'll all take place. Last year's was in New York City in the venerable Madison Square Garden, but the four-team event has traveled around the country each year. According to the CBS Sports Classic website, things will tip off in State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, with the Buckeyes matching up with North Carolina. That, of course, means the other battle will involve Kentucky and St. John's. UNC and OSU are no strangers to each other and have had some pretty significant history as of late, largely because of the CBS Sports Classic. The Tar Heels defeated Ohio State 89-84 in an overtime contest back in 2022. All told, Carolina leads the series in the CBS Sports Classic three games to none, while the Buckeyes have an overall record of 6-4 in the event, behind only UNC's 7-4 record. In other words, this winter's battle will be a battle for the best mark in the event. OSU upset Kentucky last year in the event, 82-62. Ohio State basketball star announces return for next year

Ohio State basketball star announces return for next year It'll be an interesting offseason for the Ohio State basketball team. The Buckeyes failed to make it to the NCAA Tournament and showed more inconsistency than the Central Ohio weather in the spring. It'll be hard in today's day and age to keep the roster together, but it'll be the first order of business for head coach Jake Diebler to keep the most important parts intact to try and turn things around next season. And while we've already heard that one OSU player is hitting the transfer portal, the Buckeyes got some good news on Thursday when guard John Mobley Jr. announced his decision to return to the banks of the Olentangy via social media. Mobley should be considered one of the core players the program would like to keep. Not only is he only entering his sophomore season, but he was one of the best three-point shooters in the Big Ten and showed an ability to be a playmaker that still has plenty of upside. He averaged 13 points and 2.2 assists per contest and shot 38.5% from beyond the arc, a number that dipped below over 40% through much of the season as things wound down. If Mobley can work on being more consistent and cut down on the turnovers that plagued him at times, he's got the makings of becoming an All-Big Ten performer. Now we'll be on watch to see if arguably Ohio State's best player, guard Bruce Thornton, decides to return for his last season in the Scarlet and Gray.
