What is Galentine's Day and how you can celebrate
Valentine's Day: How to keep your furry friends safe
Galentine's Day is celebrated on February 13, when women commemorate their friendships before Valentine's Day, according to Good Housekeeping. Galentine's Day came to be because of Amy Poehler's character, Leslie Knope, in Parks and Recreation. She debuted this holiday in 2010 in an episode to celebrate her female friends on Feb. 13, otherwise known as Valentine's Day Eve.
Even Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll will be celebrating Galentine's Day by attending Senate President Spilka's Galentine's Day Celebration at 7:00 p.m. at City Winery in Boston.
If you and your friends are looking for things to do on Galentine's Day, Good Housekeeping provides some ideas:
Invite your friends to bring unused makeup products to sell or swap so that everyone can have the right beauty essentials to put their best face forward.
Take the day to food hop, where you can try popular menu picks at different restaurants or even bars.
Coffee dates are casual, inexpensive, and are also a super cute Galentine's Day idea for catching up. Host the date at home or your favorite coffee spot nearby.
Encouraging friends to find pieces related to Valentine's Day is a great way to keep people engaged.
Bowling is a fun choice to keep conversations going, and it is a challenge that will delight anyone with a competitive streak.
Wine and chocolate make a great combination. Include the night with various options and enjoy a night of laughter and fun.
Brunch is an excuse for friends to have fun, relax and enjoy delicious food presented to them.
Exploring outdoors is a great way to feel refreshed while connecting with your circle of friends, and some parks are even decorated for the holiday.
Since Galentine's and Valentine's Day are all about caring for others, connect with local organizations to help those in need.
Book a space or gather your own materials and have friends bring their favorite drinks for an at-home art session.
Spa days can be essential to your mental and physical well-being, so host an at-home spa party with masks and lotion galore, or even plan a trip to the spa with your girls for the day.
During the party, take time out for your friends to write appreciation notes because Galentine's Day is about celebrating your loving friendships. Sharing the qualities you admire most about your friends will bring happiness and tons of 'aww' moments.

Prince William, Kate Middleton moving to new family home for ‘fresh start' after scary cancer battle
It's a royal move. Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 43, are relocating to a new family home with their three kids, Prince George,12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. 10 Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children on April 23, 2020. Getty Images 'The Wales family will move house later this year,' a spokesperson at Kensington Palace confirmed to People on Aug. 16. The royal couple moved to their current Adelaide Cottage home in Berkshire in 2022 to be close to their children's Lambrook School. Now, they are reportedly relocating nearby to a $21 million eight-bedroom property called Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park. 10 The façade of Prince William and Princess Kate's rumored new Forest Lodge home. 'However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times.' 'Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind,' the source added. Unlike Adelaide Cottage, William and Kate are said to see the move to Forest Lodge as a 'long-term' move into their 'forever home.' 10 The entrance hall of Forest Lodge. William and Kate were living at Adelaide Cottage, which is not far from Windsor Castle, when the princess was diagnosed with cancer last year. 'In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,' Kate announced in March 2024. 'However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present,' she added at the time. 10 Kate Middleton announced her shocking cancer diagnosis in March 2024. 'The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family,' Kate said Sept. 9. 'You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,' she said in July. 'You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,' William's wife added last month.

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Raising kids is full of fun, but it comes with plenty of challenges. Between supporting their development, encouraging new skills and making sure they stay happy and healthy, there's a lot to consider. For Good Housekeeping's 2025 Parenting Awards, our team of scientists and product experts at the GH Institute — with the help of real parent testers — reviewed a wide range of products and services to find the ones both kids and their parents would appreciate. These standout winners will help keep children enriched, active and thriving through every Kindle Paperwhite Kids Putting thousands of children's books at their fingertips, the Amazon Kindle is the ultimate reading device for kids. With a long battery life, a lightweight design and a glare-free display, it makes it easier than ever for kids to go on extended reading journeys. It even has parental controls so you can manage your kid's content and access. TEST RESULTS: 'I liked that it encouraged reading,' said a GH parenting editor whose daughter started downloading and reading a bunch of books right away. Other parents appreciated the e-reader's travel-friendly and waterproof design, with one calling it 'easy to bring around with us' (it's much simpler to transport than a stack of books!). $129.99 at Cosmic Runners For sports and everyday wear, these Nike sneakers help cushion kids' feet and offer support. The upper is a breathable mesh material with reinforcement around the toes, sides and heels for durability. You can choose from a wide range of colors and sizes, including half sizes. TEST RESULTS: Kids of all ages loved wearing them, and parents gave them perfect scores in their feedback. They fit well, were easy to put on and held up to rugged use. 'My kid felt like he could run faster in these sneakers,' one mom told us, and another said, 'The sneakers are really nice-looking – not clunky, and they go with all his outfits.' $50.00 at Orange Cream Kids' Toothpaste Not your typical toothpaste, Boka combines orange and vanilla flavors with ingredients including aloe vera (for soothing), green tea (for the antioxidants it contains) and xylitol (to fight bacteria). It also has nano-hydroxyapatite (n-Ha), a fluoride alternative used to help strengthen tooth enamel. TEST RESULTS: Parents were truly amazed. 'We have tried so many different kids' toothpastes, and this one is a standout,' one said. 'My daughter loves the flavor, consistency and texture and how her mouth and teeth feel after she uses it. I was impressed by the packaging and the incredible enthusiasm my kiddo had for the toothpaste.' Another highlighted the fact that the flavor was 'neutral and not overpowering.' $12.99 at Kids Face & Body Wash Gentler than adult soaps yet effective at cleansing skin, this Aveeno Kids wash has a tear-free formula with oat extract for moisturization and a subtle fresh scent. It's designed specifically for kids' developing skin and is meant to be used on both body and face. TEST RESULTS: GH's lead chemist praised the gel-like formula and the fact that it was sudsy yet gentle. 'It doesn't irritate my children's skin and has a great lather,' one mom said. Our chemists also confirmed that it was easier to spread than similar formulas they'd tried. $9.88 at Yuvi Sunscreen Applicator This applicator from Boon has a sponge top that dispenses and rubs in sunscreen comfortably and evenly. It holds 3 oz and has both a twist cap closure and a top cap to keep it secure on the go. And when it's time to clean the applicator, the silicone bottle is dishwasher safe. Parents called it a convenient size for throwing in a beach bag and said it was easy to use. They also confirmed that the sponge was comfortable to rub on skin. $14.31 at Player Yoto brings stories, music and learning to life with an electronic audio player (i.e., no screens needed!). It's easy to use, with audio cards that can be inserted into the player that parents can purchase based on kids' ages and interests. Some cards are from kid-favorite franchises, while others are unique to the brand. TEST RESULTS: Parents gave it five stars across the board, with some even noting that they liked it better than other audio players. 'My son absolutely loves the Yoto!" one raved. "The cards and images that come up are so fun, and he loves watching the new ones come up each time." Lab analysts found the compatible app to be intuitive and downloading more cards to be a breeze. $79.99 at Lingokids is an app for kids aged 2 to 8 that follows what it calls a 'Playlearning' method. Interactive activities including games, puzzles, songs, tutorials and more are offered, with a variety of content types aimed at helping kids develop academic and life skills. TEST RESULTS: Parents said it was different from other apps, especially because it was a great combination of fun and educational. They said their kids were able to navigate it independently and that it gave them peace of mind as parents. Parents can deposit money for their kids (including as payment for chores and allowance) while setting spending limits. TEST RESULTS: 'The app works great,' one parent user told us. 'I like that I can give kids money they can save and have a checking account they can use with a debit card.' Parents also appreciated that their kids could earn interest rather than just having their money sitting in a piggy bank. $30.00 at Chunk Play Ottomon Nugget is best known for its its play couch, but its newer creation — round foam cushions that nest into an ottoman — takes play to the next level for kids 3 and up. It comes with four pieces, each with a removable cover that's machine washable.
