Alberta art mistakenly sold in Parks Canada gift shop
Staff at an Alberta national historic site are desperate to find a man who bought a painting that should have never been sold.
Friends of the Bar U, a local volunteer organization that works with Parks Canada at the Bar U National Historic Site south of Longview, Alta., says an original painting depicting the site before its ranching days was unwittingly sold to an unknown buyer.
The artwork, entitled 'Bison on the Western Range' by Corrie Buwalda, was on display in the Bar U Ranch Gift Shop and the group says a man came in on July 8 and bought it.
The group doesn't know how much it was bought for or what its actual value is, but said the painting should not have been sold.
They are now looking to find the buyer to bring it back to the site.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Friends of the Bar U by calling 403-395-3993, 403-369-4531 or 403-395-3330.
Emails can also be sent to gsmanagerbaru@gmail.com or office@friendsofthebaru.com.
The group says it offers a full refund to the buyer and will arrange pickup.

Firefighters battle downtown Montreal blaze
Montreal firefighters battled a five-alarm fire in the city`s downtown area early Tuesday morning. The department was called to the building, which houses shops on the ground floor and apartments above, at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Towers streets at 2 a.m. More than 150 firefighters responded to the blaze, which initially started as a two-alarm fire but was quickly upgraded. 'The fire spread quickly. It's an old building from the 1900s,' Francis Fleury, section chief with the Montreal fire department, told Noovo Info. 'The fire is difficult to control, and firefighters are working hard to extinguish it.' A number of people were evacuated from the building and taken in by the Red Cross. Firefighters warn there could be ongoing outages in the area. 'The winds are causing the smoke to spread throughout the neighbourhood,' Fleury added. People are being asked to avoid the scene.
