Staff at an Alberta national historic site are desperate to find a man who bought a painting that should have never been sold.
Friends of the Bar U, a local volunteer organization that works with Parks Canada at the Bar U National Historic Site south of Longview, Alta., says an original painting depicting the site before its ranching days was unwittingly sold to an unknown buyer.
The artwork, entitled 'Bison on the Western Range' by Corrie Buwalda, was on display in the Bar U Ranch Gift Shop and the group says a man came in on July 8 and bought it.
The group doesn't know how much it was bought for or what its actual value is, but said the painting should not have been sold.
They are now looking to find the buyer to bring it back to the site.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Friends of the Bar U by calling 403-395-3993, 403-369-4531 or 403-395-3330.
Emails can also be sent to gsmanagerbaru@ or office@
The group says it offers a full refund to the buyer and will arrange pickup.
