BRYAN MBEUMO has hailed Ollie Watkins as a 'complete striker' - as Manchester United ramp up their interest in the Aston Villa star.
Mbeumo, United's £71million recruit, played with Watkins, 29, in his first season at Brentford, when they scored 42 goals between them.

United have now made the England striker top of a two-man shortlist, alongside Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, as they seek to give Ruben Amorim a new line leader.
And Mbeumo, 25, hinted he would love to be reunited with his old Bees mucker as he said: 'Ollie is a complete striker.
'He can do a lot of things. He can drop to be available or go in behind.
'And that is really good for me as a winger because you can use his space to fit in there. Plus he can combine as well. It's really good.'
Mbeumo's endorsement, in an interview on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, came as United focused on Watkins and Sesko as their options, with a move for Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson discounted.
Although any move may be dependent on finding a taker for £72m flop Rasmus Hojlund.
Contact has been made with the entourages of both potential targets, with Watkins' proven Premier League experience a major plus
The England striker has scored 75 top flight goals since moving to Villa Park.

While Villa have dismissed all suggestions of an approach and insisted Watkins is not for sale at any price, they did offer him to Arsenal in the January window, before performing a U-turn after selling Jhon Duran instead.
Mbeumo, meanwhile, cannot wait to get out in front of 76,000 at Old Trafford every fortnight - even if a delayed pre-season means he may have to wait for his United bow,
Mbeumo completes Man Utd move
He said: 'You want to play on the greatest stages in the world. And Old Trafford is one of them.
'So being able to play here every two weeks is just big.
'When I spoke properly with the gaffer, he said 'we are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team', and of course that's what we will try to do.
'We had a very friendly and constructive conversation. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that.
'I'm someone who likes a challenge. As a forward, you always want to make an imprint in the game, helping people to score or scoring yourself.
'I always want to be better than I was yesterday. I'm very demanding of myself and try to do my best. I don't like to put limits on myself.'
Mbeumo admitted he had spoken to both former boss Thomas Frank at Spurs and Newcastle but that his heart had been set in United and he 'never had any doubts that it would happen'.
Yet while the striker, who scored a career-best 20 Premier League goals last season, does not suffer stage fright when he laces up his boots, he is nervous about potentially playing the piano as part of his 'initiation' ceremony.
Mbeumo thinks he is 'not bad' at tinkling the ivories but laughed: 'The thing is, I don't really like to play the piano in front of people.
'It's funny, but it's so different.
'Even if I play in front of a couple of friends at home, I'm not exactly shaking but it's 'oh guys, this is kind of hard for me'.'

Arsenal news: Viktor Gyokeres call to be made as former target sees price drop

Arsenal have landed some major signings this summer but continue to be linked with Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze whilst Real Madrid could still offload Rodygo Arsenal's summer business has now seen them spend well over £200million but Mikel Arteta is prepared to continue scouring the market for new arrivals. ‌ The Gunners are looking to end a run of three straight second place finishes and the club have been aggressive in the market, finally capturing the No 9 they've been looking for in Viktor Gyokeres. Martin Zubimendi is also a shrewd addition whilst Noni Madueke has joined from Chelsea. ‌ Mikel Arteta is looking to add more firepower to a frontline that already includes the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka. ‌ The Arsenal boss had claimed as recently as last week that his squad was lacking in depth and that Arsenal were "constantly looking in the market". More signings could head to the Emirates - here's the latest news from north London. Gyokeres closes on debut Arteta has confirmed Arsenal could give a debut to new summer signing Gyokeres but needed to assess his fitness levels before deciding whether to unleash him against north London rivals Tottenham on Thursday. Gyokeres completed his move to Arsenal over the weekend and the Swede was in attendance for the Gunners' 3-2 win over Newcastle on Sunday. Since then he has been involved in training with his new Gunners' team-mates, who will travel from Singapore to Hong Kong later today to continue their pre-season tour of Asia. Gyokeres failed to report for pre-season with Sporting Lisbon amid his feud with the club as he looked to force a move away. He is now looking to get up to speed regarding his conditioning with the Premier League opener coming in mid-August. Arsenal's Eze issue Arsenal's business is far from done and Eberechi Eze continues to be on their radar but the Athletic claims a deal is only expected to be done if Crystal Palace lower their asking price. The England international has a £68million release clause at Selhurst Park, which Arsenal believe is too much. ‌ Eze is in favour of a move across the Thames, Palace are under no financial pressure to sell - irrespective of which European competition they will be competing in. The Gunners have been in the market for a wide forward and were looking to land Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao before he commited his future to the Spanish side. Rodrygo has also been on their radar. ‌ Rodrygo price drops Talking of Rodrygo, Real Madrid are willing to reduce their £78m asking price for the Brazilian in the hope that Arsenal and Liverpool will reconsider signing him. The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Los Blancos this summer having fallen down the pecking order. The Brazilian is now waiting on a final decision from manager Xabi Alonso but Bernabeu chiefs continue to talk to potential suitors in the background and Real are ready to sell. The issue for the Spanish side though is, given the length of the saga surrounding Rodrygo, both Arsenal and Liverpool have since moved on to new targets. Man Utd transfer news: Ollie Watkins' feelings clear on move as another striker ruled out

Manchester United have turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins as they look to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window for Ruben Amorim Manchester United are determined to sign a striker before the Premier League season begins. Ruben Amorim has already been given much-needed attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window, but there's still a missing piece of the puzzle. ‌ Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have arrived for a combined fee of £133.5million, but United are in real need of more goals. Cunha scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season for Wolves, while Mbeumo struck 20 for Brentford, yet neither are comfortable as a No.9. ‌ That is where United have been trying to find a new player. But with no European football to offer targets, having finished a lowly 15th last season, they missed out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal. ‌ All is not lost yet. The summer transfer window remains open until September 1, but Amorim is preparing for their opening Premier League game against Arsenal on August 17, when his old Sporting Lisbon player Gyokeres will be unleashed against him. Here are the latest transfer stories from Mirror Football involving United. Watkins keen on Man Utd move Ollie Watkins is Manchester United's No.1 choice in their pursuit of a centre-forward, Mirror Football understands. Benjamin Sesko has been considered, but the RB Leipzig striker isn't considered as good an option as Watkins, who is an experienced Premier League striker. United are, however, unwilling to pay Aston Villa's £60m valuation for the England star. Instead, they hope to negotiate down to around £40-45m for the 29-year-old forward. One of the things in their favour is that Watkins is understood to be keen on the move. While he has been an important player for Villa in recent years, he has clashed with Unai Emery over selection in the Champions League and would undoubtedly be the main man at United, where rotation would be less of an issue. Dortmund emerge as Sancho option Jadon Sancho had appeared to be set for a move to Juventus, but a third spell at Borussia Dortmund is now thought to be a serious possibility for the winger. Sancho is part of the bomb squad at United, having been told he has no future at the club under Amorim's management. ‌ He had agreed terms with Fenerbahce last month, before that move collapsed. Next came Juventus, with the Italian side thought to be close to signing the 25-year-old for £21.6m. According to reports, United could now flog Sancho to Dortmund for £15-17m, giving him a third spell at the club. Sancho made his name in Germany initially, joining United for £73m on the back of his form there, and also spent time on loan at Dortmund in 2024. Jackson off the cards ‌ Manchester United won't be signing Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea this summer. Jackson is exploring his options after the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap left him contemplating a season on the bench. United held talks with his agent, but Chelsea's asking price has put them off. The Blues floated the figure of £100million, with an actual valuation of £80m still way too high for the Senegal international, who has a typically ludicrous but classic Chelsea contract expiry date of June 2033. Watkins is now United's No.1 target, with Sesko another option. United have spoken to Sesko's agent, but he is younger, more inexperienced and has no Premier League experience.

Forgotten former Man United star makes first appearance in 578 days - as he goes on trial with new English club after dangerous driving sentence

Former Manchester United player Brandon Williams, who was sentenced for dangerous driving, has made his first appearance in 19 months. The full-back came on as a substitute for Hull City, where he is on trial, during their 2-1 friendly win over Sunderland on Tuesday night. In May Williams was handed a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after crashing his Audi A3 at almost 100mph on August 20, 2023. The 24-year-old, who was once paid £3.4million a year as a promising young defender, had been 'driving erratically' in his Audi A3 before hitting a Ford Fiesta and careering into the central reservation of the A34 in Cheshire. On Tuesday, Championship side Hull gave him 15 minutes off the bench for his first outing since he played on loan for Ipswich against QPR in a 0-0 draw in December 2023. Williams said in May that he wanted to be '100 per cent focused' on his football again and 'kick on' with a new club, wherever that may be. 'It hurts me watching football now because I just want to be there, I just want to play. I miss being in a team, on the coach, travelling to games, having meals together and just doing things,' he said. 'I want to have that feeling again of winning and being around the changing room environment. 'I've had loads of teams trying to get me out - America, Europe and England - but I haven't been ready. I want to go somewhere 100 per cent focused and kick on. 'I would like to experience that different culture. I'm only 24 so I could do three or four years abroad. Definitely Europe at a good club or an upcoming club.' Williams admitted he had been trying to show off to a female passenger who was sitting next to him, and a witness is said to have filmed him with a balloon by his mouth. Prosecutors said it was 'fortunate' nobody was seriously injured or killed. Judge Eric Lamb also banned Williams from driving for three years and ordered him to do 180 hours of unpaid work. The homegrown Man United talent announced last June that he would leave the club at the end of his contract, and when the incident took place - in August 2023 - Williams had been on loan at Ipswich Town.
