A fund based in the UAE said on Thursday that it has purchased $100 million of World Liberty Financial tokens, which are part of US President Donald Trump's crypto project.
In a joint statement, Aqua 1 and World Liberty Financial said the investment will help speed up the creation of a blockchain financial ecosystem and stablecoin integration. "We're excited to work hand-in-hand with the team at Aqua 1,' said Zak Folkman, co-founder of World Liberty Financial.
The purchase makes Aqua 1 one of the largest investors in the Trump family project. The company has also received major backing from crypto billionaire Justin Sun.
Aqua 1 is the second UAE-based firm to back World Liberty Financial in recent months. Abu Dhabi-based technology investment company MGX in May used World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin to make a $2 billion investment in Binance.
'WLFI and Aqua 1 will jointly identify and nurture high-potential blockchain projects together,' said Aqua 1 founding partner David Lee. World Liberty Financial said it also plans to support the launch of the Aqua 1 Aqua Fund, which it said is a UAE-domiciled investment fund dedicated to accelerating the Middle East's digital economy.
Aqua 1 also said it will assist World Liberty Financial to expand across South America, Europe, Asia and emerging markets. Both companies also plan to develop "BlockRock", a real world asset tokenisation platform focused on integrating traditional assets into the Web3 ecosystem.

Trump-backed World Liberty to release stablecoin audit, make WLFI transferable
World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture linked to US President Donald Trump, is preparing to release an audit of its stablecoin and hinted that its governance token, WLFI, may soon be transferable. Speaking at the Permissionless conference in Brooklyn on Wednesday, co-founder Zak Folkman told Blockworks' Jason Yanowitz that the company's stablecoin had recently received its first attestation report from an accounting firm. Folkman added that the attestation report will be published on the project's website 'within the next few days.' He also suggested a significant shift may be coming for WLFI, the project's governance token. 'I don't want to give away too much,' he said, 'but if you pay attention over the next couple of weeks, I think everyone… is going to be very, very happy.' WLFI currently grants voting rights, but they are nontransferable. Folkman added that World Liberty plans to launch a new app aimed at making crypto easier to use for retail participants, a move that could broaden the platform's appeal ahead of the election cycle. WLFI to become transferable Confirming the news in a recent X post, World Liberty Financial said that its WLFI token may soon become transferable, following growing demand from its community. 'You asked to make $WLFI transferable — we heard you,' the project said, adding that the team is actively working behind the scenes to enable the change. The message concluded with a promise of 'big news coming soon.' Still, the announcement received mixed reactions. While some expressed excitement about being able to acquire WLFI, others were skeptical. 'Translation: Team is trying to dump their supply,' X user Clemente wrote. 'Not just the team but retail investors and foreigners. American middle class will jump in finally to hold the bag as usual,' another user claimed. Trump earns big from crypto Donald Trump has reported earning $57.4 million from World Liberty Financial. According to his 2025 financial disclosure filed with the Office of Government Ethics, Trump holds over 15 billion governance tokens in the project, which come with voting rights. The income comes from token sales. World Liberty Financial has raised $550 million through two public token sales since its launch in September 2024. The platform focuses on DeFi services and dollar-pegged stablecoins, branding itself as a disruptor of traditional finance. The project has attracted notable crypto investors, including Tron founder Justin Sun, who purchased $30 million worth of WLFI tokens, and Web3Port, which invested $10 million. Oddiyana Ventures also joined as a backer in early 2025. Source:

Sheikh Hamdan unveils air quality plan and support for Emiratis in future job markets
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, on Thursday chaired the Dubai Executive Council meeting, with education and efforts to boost air quality high on the agenda. The council approved a project to attract top international universities to the emirate while putting together the Academic and Career Guidance Policy. This, Sheikh Hamdan said, will help Emirati students in future job markets with targeted academic and career support, setting a target that 90 per cent of all Emirati graduates will find employment within six months of graduation. Sheikh Hamdan also unveiled a long-term air quality plan as part of a broader drive to bolster the environment and improve quality of life. 'Today, I chaired The Executive Council meeting and approved a set of policies and strategies to reinforce Dubai's position as a global hub for education and future-ready talent,' he wrote on X. 'We approved a project to attract top international universities, aiming to position Dubai among the world's top 10 destinations for undergraduate and postgraduate students.' The aim is for international students to comprise 50 per cent of all university enrolments in Dubai by 2033. The higher education sector is also expected to contribute Dh5.6 billion to the emirate's GDP by this time, Dubai Media Office reports. The initiative aims to establish Dubai as one of the world's top 10 cities for students, with over 70 higher education institutions planned by 2033, including 11 ranked within the top 200 globally. To achieve this, the project sets out to improve student visa systems, new international scholarships, work visas for graduates, and introduce strategies to attract prestigious universities. 'Aligned with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision for a knowledge-based economy, the project will be implemented in partnership with KHDA and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism,' Sheikh Hamdan added. 'We also approved the Academic and Career Guidance Policy to help Emirati students thrive in future job markets through targeted academic and career support.' A focus on the environment The Crown Prince of Dubai also revealed the approval of the Air Quality Strategy 2030, while also setting out plans for a new centre to mediate legal disputes. The clean air initiative follows a similar project announced in February, known as the Super Block initiative, which will target urban areas to make them more pedestrian-friendly. It is hoped that this will enhance quality of life, sustainability and boost social interaction between communities. It also aims to reduce carbon emissions by designating car-free residential areas and increasing green spaces. Areas such as Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama, and Al Quoz Creative Zone will be the first to be boosted by the initiative. 'Enhancing quality of life remains a key priority. We approved the Air Quality Strategy 2030, which will be implemented by Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, in partnership with relevant entities, with the aim of fostering a healthy and safe environment for all,' he continued. 'During the meeting, we also approved the Dubai International Mediation Centre project to provide an efficient and transparent platform for alternative dispute resolution. 'We also approved the Governance Policy for Government Construction Projects to standardise procedures, enhance transparency, strengthen private-sector partnerships, and ensure efficient delivery and high-quality outcomes.'
