'That show was wild', Sophie Turner credits ‘Game of Thrones' for her NSFW education

Express Tribune09-07-2025
Sophie Turner is looking back on her formative years spent on the set of Game of Thrones, and she says the experience was far more educational than most might guess.
During an appearance on the Dish podcast, the 29-year-old actress joked that the HBO series served as an unconventional sex education course during her teen years. 'I definitely got my sex education from that show. More, more than enough,' Turner laughed, referencing the show's famously graphic and often controversial intimate scenes.
Turner began portraying Sansa Stark at just 14 and continued in the role through the end of the series, wrapping at 23. Though she's never actually watched the full show, largely because she doesn't enjoy seeing herself on screen, she said the experience on set was invaluable. 'Everything I learned from Game of Thrones, and a bit from my parents, informed my entire life,' she told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett.
She credits the series for teaching her how to behave professionally, make sound business choices, and hold her own on set. Turner also called it the 'best acting class' she could've asked for, learning directly from industry heavyweights like Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Kit Harington. 'We all were a family,' she added.
Reflecting on her deep connection to Sansa, Turner said, 'My character, I got to live with. It felt like we merged into one person.'
While she hasn't ruled out returning to the role, she said it would only happen if the original cast and crew reunited. For now, Turner is preparing for her next role in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming series Steal.

HBO reveals first look at new Weasley siblings for Harry Potter series

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series is beginning to take shape as the casting of the Weasley family has been unveiled. The network shared new images on social media introducing the actors who will bring several of the iconic red-haired siblings to life. Tristan and Gabriel Harland, twin brothers who previously appeared in Netflix's The Last Kingdom, have been cast as Fred and George Weasley. Their casting immediately drew attention, as many fans have long speculated who might take on the challenge of playing the mischievous pair. Percy Weasley will be portrayed by Ruari Spooner, known for his role in the short film Syncopation. Ginny Weasley will be played by Gracie Cochrane, who had a supporting role in Apple TV+'s Blitz. While the majority of Ron's siblings have been revealed, Charlie Weasley has yet to be announced. HBO teased the delay by joking that the dragon-loving character is 'in Romania at the moment' but will be joining soon. Fans are also waiting for news on who will portray Arthur and Bill Weasley, two characters who play key roles later in the series. Katherine Parkinson has already been confirmed to play Molly Weasley, rounding out the heart of the family. Production for the series recently began at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same site where blockbuster films such as Barbie and Wonka were shot. The show is expected to premiere in 2027 and run for a decade, covering all seven of J.K. Rowling's books in a more expansive format than the films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Rowling herself is on board as an executive producer. With the Weasley siblings now stepping into the spotlight, excitement continues to build for a series that promises to revisit Hogwarts with a new generation of actors. For many fans, this extended format could finally allow the Weasley family to shine as they did in the books.

Penguin creator Lauren LeFranc signs HBO overall deal and launches Acid and Tender Productions

Lauren LeFranc, creator and showrunner of HBO's The Penguin, has signed a two-year overall deal with HBO and HBO Max while also unveiling her new production company, Acid and Tender Productions. The news was first reported by Variety. 'I am thrilled to continue my creative partnership with HBO,' LeFranc said in a statement to Variety. 'They have been unwavering in their support of my work on The Penguin, and beyond. My company, Acid and Tender Productions, comes from a sincere desire to shepherd bold stories and perspectives from singular voices and artists I love.' LeFranc first became involved with The Penguin in 2021, with the show officially ordered by HBO in 2022. Starring Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, and Deirdre O'Connell, the series debuted in September 2024 and quickly earned both critical acclaim and strong audience response. It went on to receive 24 Emmy nominations, including best limited series, as well as acting nods for Farrell, Milioti, and O'Connell. The program secured the second-highest number of nominations this year, behind only Apple TV+'s Severance. Before The Penguin, LeFranc served as showrunner on YouTube Premium's Impulse and worked as a writer and producer on Agents of SHIELD, Chuck, and Hemlock Grove. She is represented by Untitled Entertainment, CAA, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and ID PR. While HBO has not officially confirmed a second season of The Penguin, speculation continues. HBO chief Casey Bloys recently told Variety that another installment is 'definitely possible,' though the network's immediate priority is supporting Matt Reeves' progress on The Batman 2.
