Woman reports daughter to police for plotting family jewellery theft; 4 held
The accused were identified as Sonali Awasthi, Muskan Prajapati, Suman Kumari, residents of Satav village and Himanshi Kumari of Pooranpur village under Gurubakshganj police station limits. The accused confessed that they had plans to buy designer clothes, cosmetics, mobile phones and footwear, the Rae Bareli police stated in an official release.
Sonali, while in Haryana, was caught by her mother for plotting the theft. She had given duplicate keys and details about the jewelry to her friends, and was keeping them updated on her family's whereabouts so they could steal the valuables. However, Sonali's mother, Asha Awasthi, overheard her daughter's phone calls and, connecting the dots, tipped off the police.
Asha Awasthi named her daughter Sonali and her three friends in the FIR lodged at Gurubakshganj police station on Monday under Section 305 (house theft) of BNS. The police sent the four accused to judicial custody after producing them before a competent court.
Sonali, who lived with her parents, Asha Awasthi and Guddu Awasthi, in Haryana for livelihood and frequently visited her native place in Satav village of Rae Bareli. She was aware about the jewellery secretly kept at her house in Rae Bareli, stated SK Singh, inspector in-charge of Gurubakshganj police station.
'While in Haryana, Sonali shared the details with her friends and provided them with duplicate keys and information about the jewellery to steal it in the absence of her family members. She even kept her friends updated about their live location over phone,' he said, adding: 'But Sonali's mother, Asha Awasthi, had a suspicion on her as she had overheard her daughter's conversation over phone and connected the dots to hint cops about the suspects.'

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone-II) Prashant Swami said police identified the vehicle based on a video evidence and were probing to ascertain its owner. Despite repeated attempts, Jawahar Nagar police inspector Sachin Kumbhar could not be reached for his comments. Sources said police found that the car belonged to a person associated with a political party.

4.5k cops deployed, checks intensified in Gurgaon ahead of Independence Day
Gurgaon: As the country marks the 79th Independence Day, city will see the deployment of 4,500 police personnel as part of heightened security arrangements, officials said Wednesday. Over 40 inspectors, along with police and traffic staff, will be on duty on August 15, supported by additional officers equipped with available security tools. The crime branch will also patrol in civilian attire to ensure comprehensive surveillance. "Checking is ongoing throughout the city. A total of 4,500 police personnel are deployed for duty on August 15. Additionally, our crime branch team is patrolling the entire area in civilian attire. Checking is also underway at interstate points and checkpoints, as well as on routes connecting to other districts. ASI, woman head constable injured as scooter gets entangled in low-hanging cable
An Assistant Sub-Inspector and a female head constable sustained serious injuries when their scooter got entangled with a low-hanging cable at Wilson Garden recently. The injured have been identified as Shivakumar T.P. and Suguna. According to the police, the cable got entangled with the scooter handlebar and Mr. Shivakumar lost control and both crashed on the road. Passers-by took them to a nearby hospital, where the doctors confirmed that Mr. Shivakumar's right kneecap had developed cracks and advised immediate surgery. Ms. Suguna also sustained injuries. Mr. Shivakumar, in his complaint to the Wilson Garden police, alleged that cables on poles and trees hanging haphazardly are endangering the lives of people. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 125 (a) (ndangering human life and personal safety of others) under the BNS. The police are now on the lookout for the person who put up the cable for further action.
