Phillies place 1B Bryce Harper (wrist) on injured list

June 7 - The Philadelphia Phillies placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list Saturday with inflammation in his right wrist. The move is retroactive to Friday for the two-time National League Most Valuable Player, who was 0-for-8 with five strikeouts in losses to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday and Thursday. Harper, 32, returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing five games following being struck by a pitch on the right elbow on May 27. The eight-time All-Star is batting .258 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 57 games this season. His .814 OPS is his lowest since finishing the 2016 campaign at the same number. The Phillies, losers of seven of eight entering Saturday's matinee at Pittsburgh, called up infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. Kemp, 25, is in line to make his major league debut. He is batting .317 with a 1.018 OPS, 14 homers, 55 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 57 games this season at Lehigh Valley. Philadelphia also recalled right-hander Daniel Robert from Triple-A after optioning right-hander Alan Rangel there following Friday's 5-4 loss in Pittsburgh. --Field Level Media

Arsenal star Jorginho completes Flamengo transfer and set to become second Chelsea icon to face Blues at Club World Cup

JORGINHO has completed his move to Flamengo - just hours after leaving Arsenal. The Brazilian midfielder, 33, was released from his contract early by the Gunners. 3 3 Jorginho joined Arsenal in January 2023 from Chelsea. The 33-year-old made 78 appearances for Mikel Arteta's side, but mostly featured off the bench this season. Jorginho was set to leave the club when his deal expired on 30 June. But the club arranged for him to be released early so he could play for Flamengo in the Club World Cup. He has penned a three-year deal with the Brazilian side. The Gunners described Jorginho as a "valuable and integral part of the club" in a statement confirming his early release. It added: "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to thank Jorgi for his contribution to the club. "We wish him and his family all the best for the future." Flamengo's draw for the Club World Cup sees them face Tunis, Los Angeles FC and Chelsea in the group stage. It means Jorginho will face his former club on June 20 at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. A familiar face to Blues fans will also play against Chelsea in the tournament opener. Olivier Giroud, who played for both the Blues and Arsenal, currently leads the line for Los Angeles FC. The MLS club booked their place in the competition with a nervy qualifying win over Mexican giants Club America earlier this month. 3 The winner-takes-all tie came about after Mexico's Club Leon were kicked out of the new-look competition before it even started. Leon were due to be in Group D alongside Chelsea. But they were booted due to a violation of Fifa's rules on multi-club ownership. The 32-team tournament starts later this month. Manchester City, among the favourites for the crown, face Italian giants Juventus, Morocco's Wydad AC and Al Ain of the UAE in the group stages.

Jorginho leaves Arsenal, signs for Flamengo before Club World Cup

June 7 (Reuters) - Italy midfielder Jorginho has joined Brazilian side Flamengo ahead of this month's Club World Cup, following a mutual termination of his contract with Arsenal, both clubs said. Jorginho, whose Arsenal deal was set to expire at the end of the month, has joined Flamengo on a contract until July 2028. The 33-year-old Brazil-born Italy international moved to North London from Chelsea in January 2023, making 78 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. Arsenal finished second to champions Liverpool in the Premier League in the recently-concluded season. "We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent," Arsenal said in a statement late on Friday. Having started his career at Italian side Hellas Verona before switching to Napoli in 2014, Jorginho won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup titles during his time at Chelsea. Capped 57 times for Italy, he won the European Championship in 2020. "Jorginho's first assignment with Flamengo will be at the Club World Cup," the Brazilian Serie A club said. Flamengo will begin their Club World Cup campaign against Tunisian side ES Tunis on June 16 in Philadelphia. The expanded 32-team Club World Cup runs from June 14 to July 13 in the United States with $1 billion in prize money at stake.
